  • The Natural Gas and petroleum have the same Origin, Namely, Ocean bottom deposits of the marine plant, plankton which are subdued to the biological action of the bacterium under the anaerobic circumstance, and changed to the hydrocarbon gas and oils. and such resources are appeared in the aqueous sedimentary rocks in the tertiary. There are three types of gas field, which are oil well gas field, structural gas field and water soluble gas field.

  • Three specimens of Abudefduf septemfasciatus were collected firstly from tidal pools on the southern and northern coasts of Jeju Island, Korea in August 2015. This species is characterized by black blotches on the upper origin of the pectoral fin, upper caudal peduncle and a dorsal fin between the second and fourth spines, predorsal scales beyond to above the middle of the eye, 12~13 soft dorsal and anal fin rays, and 20 lateral-line scales. This species is distinguishable from Abudefduf sordidus by soft dorsal and anal fin rays, location of caudal peduncle blotch, and location of the dorsal fin blotch. The newly proposed Korean name is "Il-gop-jul-ja-dom".

  • In the LED lighting applications, because LED packages are the origin of heat generation, there are thermal design problem on heat sinks. In the thermal design, it is important to consider the total volume and the total weight of heat sink simultaneously. In this study, an Al 6063 heat sink was optimized using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) simulation tool for the cooling of 30W LED module, and then the cooling performance and the total weight of heat sinks with Al 6063 and Thermal Conductive Polycarbonate(TCP) were compared under the same conditions. As the result of simulation, an Al 6063 heat sink was optimized with 22 ea. of fins and 1.6 mm of fin thickness. LED Junction Temperature of the TCP Heat Sink was $5.6^{\circ}C$ higher, but total weight of it was 47 % less than the Al 6063.

  • Seahorse Hippocampus abdominalis a marine teleost fish, has long been used as one of the essential materials in traditional Chinese medicine. However, the uses of seahorse have been limited due to its high cost, despite its beneficial biological activities. Seahorse has not been widely explored for its biofunctional properties and active components. In the present study, the enzymatic hydrolysates of seahorse were prepared by using two digestive enzymes (trypsin and pepsin) and five food grade enzymes (neutrase, protamex, alcalase, kojizyme, and flavourzyme). The enzymatic hydrolysates indicated higher hydrolysis yields than its water extract. Among them, the distilled water-pepsin hydrolysate (DP) which was obtained by distilled water extraction followed by pepsin hydrolysis, showed the highest yield and protein content as well as the highest alkyl radical scavenging activity. Also, it provided protective effects against oxidative stress induced by AAPH in vero cell and zebrafish. Further fractionation based on the molecular weight was carried out to identify it’s active components, and < 5 kDa (less than 5 kDa) molecular weight fraction was confirmed to have the highest antioxidant activity. In conclusion, this study suggests that DP of seahorse has antioxidant properties, and might be a novel and useful material from the marine origin for healthy functional foods and cosmetics.

  • The vertical distribution and origin of particulate organic matter (POM) were investigated in Shingu reservoir on 4th July (pre-monsoon) and 7th August (post-monsoon) 2006. High turbid water (120 NTU) were found at 4.5 m water depth in postmonsoon period. The average C/N ratio of POM was about 5.70 and 6.96 in surface water and bottom water, respectively in pre-monsoon period, exhibiting the close values to its ratio in phytoplankton cell. However, the average C/N ratio was 7.10 in surface water and 12.81 in bottom water in post-monsoon period. In addition, the ${\delta}^{13}C$ values of POM in pre-monsoon period ranged from -25.1%o to -26.1%o in whole water column, but the ${\delta}^{13}C$ values of POM in post-monsoon period showed relatively wide range between -23.2%o and -27.5%o. The apparently lighter values (average -27.5%o) in near bottom water (4.5 m water depth) demonstrate that POM in high turbid water in post-monsoon period may be derived from the outside terrestrial plants through heavy rainfall during the summer monsoon period. The present study suggests that carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios as well as C/N ratios should be useful indexes to clarify the origin of POM.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the origin of organic matters on sediment and the characteristics of seasonal variation at an estuarine tidal flat. Silt-clay content (<63 ${\mu}m$), chlorophyll a, TOC, C/N ratio and the stable isotope ratio of carbon and nitrogen were measured at tidal flat around the estuary of the Nanakita River. As a result, organic matters originating from marine organic matter and bethic microalgae greatly contributed to sedimentation of organic matters at Stn.A, sandy tidal flat, though terrigenous organic matters did at Stn.C, muddy tidal flat. Furthermore, it was revealed that the volume and origin of organic matters in the sediments depended on seasonal variation, and the factors were different from the Stns, i.e. bentic microalgae and event for Stn.A, and the eventual sedimentation of organic matters originating from terrestrial plants, respectively.

  • An archaeal 16S rRNA gene library was constructed from mangrove soil. Phylogenetic analysis revealed archaea in mangrove soil including the Crenarchaeota (80.4%) and Euryarchaeota (19.6%) phyla. The archaeal community in mangrove soil appears to be a mixture of organisms found in a variety of environments with the majority being of marine origin.

  • This paper focuses on the effects of the changes in the resistance characteristics caused by the changes of the POD shape installed in the Hydrofoil vessel, using the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics). We input the POD sections' basic shape as the origin of the x and y axis. Then as we cut the x-axis 0 to 2 cm, and the more we cut it, the total resistance value had increased. However, we have recognized the fact that as we cut the POD section, 3 to 5 cm, the resistance value had rather decreased. Furthermore we found out the result that as the cut partition was larger; the POD cross-section would decrease, resulting in the linear decrease of the viscous force.

  • A juvenile of the slender fangjaw, Sigmops gracilis G$\ddot{u}$nther, 1878 (Stomiiformes: Gonostomatidae) was collected from Jeju Island, Korea, and identified by DNA barcoding. This species is characterized by its large curved mouth and the presence of 11 dorsal fin rays and 28 anal fin rays. During the juvenile stage, the species is distinguished from other gonostomatid species by the position of the origin of the dorsal fin, which is located at the 7th-8th ray of the anal fin. The Korean name "Sol-ni-ael-tung-i" is proposed for this species.
