표면 처리를 통한 친환경 방오 기술 및 실해역 평가 연구 (Antifouling technology and sea trial verification according to surface treatment)

  • Antifouling paints that inhibit the attachment and contamination of marine organisms mainly use TBT compounds, but because of their toxic components, they cause ecosystem disturbance and environmental destruction problems, so It is necessary to research eco-friendly antifouling paints that are easy to maintain and effective antifouling technologies. In this study, physical surface treatment of silane coating and chemical antifouling technology were applied to the metal surface to secure the stability of the surface of the marine structure and inhibit the attachment and growth of marine organisms. Adhesion of marine organisms was evaluated according to the coating conditions through surface evaluation of the charged material for 15 months in the waters of the west coast of Korea. In accordance with ASTM D6990-05, antifouling properties fouling rates (FR) and physical degradation rates(PDR) were evaluated through visual inspection of the evaluation specimens. As a result of evaluating the antifouling performance of the coated surface, it was confirmed that the antifouling performance was maintained at the 50% level even after 15 months in the sample subjected to physical processing and silane coating.

  • Recently, the interest in marine leisure activities has been growing rapidly with the work-life balance trend. In response to this demand, the Korean government is supporting fostering and revitalizing the relevant industries and facilities. In particular, a marina has been making efforts to change itself into a resort with multiple amenities instead of a simple mooring facility. However, the facilities in a marina for the transport of marine leisure equipment mostly consist of cranes and boat-lifts using ropes, which can result in incidents such as damage and accidents during lifting or movement. This paper proposes the equipment and support system for the safe transportation of marine leisure ships. Aluminum transport equipment was designed by performing a structural analysis to achieve a lighter weight than the existing steel products. In addition, a safety support system with alarms for tilting or obstacles and a slope monitoring system was developed to enhance the safety during operation and transportation. The safety support system developed in this study was implemented and installed in the transport system, and verified through commissioning on land.

첨단복합방식재를 이용한 각종 선박구조물의 마찰마모손상의 최소화 (Minimization of Friction and Wear Damage of Marine Structures by Using the Advanced Anti-corrosive Composite Materials)

  • The marine structures with sea water cooling system always expose to the oceanic atmosphere. Therefore, the protection of the equipments is very important. To investigate the effectiveness of advanced composite materials for the application in offshore environments, the tensile test, hardness test, undercutting property test, permeance test and the friction and wear test were carried out by using various applicable coating materials. The main results obtained can be summarized as follows; 1. The micro-hardness of the Archcoat 502B showed the highest value. 2. The coefficient of friction of the Rigspray coating at the speed of 2.21m/sec showed the lowest value, and that of the Archcoat 502B coating at 1.08m/sec and 0.18m/sec indicated the lowest values. 3. The wear mass at the speed of 0.18m/sec and 1.08m/sec in dry condition showed the smallest values. 4. The Archcoat 502B coating is fitted to the dynamic instruments in the range of low speed and middle speed. Rigspray coating is fitted to the dynamic instruments in the range of high speed. 5. The wear mass of five kinds of coating materials at the range of low speed was very small, and those of the Archcoat S02B, Archcoat 402B and Rigspray coating at high speed range were quitely smaller than those of the Modified Epoxy and Tar Epoxy.

해양화학생물산업의 현황과 전망 (Present Status and Prospects of Marine Chemical Bioindustries)

  • 21세기에 들어서면서 해양에 대한 인식은 해양선진국들을 중심으로 하루가 다르게 변모하고 있으며, 석유 및 육상자원의 고갈의 가속화로 인하여 해양의 중요성은 점차 커져 가고 있다. 지속가능한 발전을 위해서는 해조류, 해수 등과 같은 해양자원으로부터 산업용 화학품, 신소재, 연료, 희귀금속 등의 생산을 가능하게 하는 해양화학생물산업의 개발이 절실히 필요해지고 있다. 본 글에서는 해양화학생물산업분야 중 세계적으로 각광 받고 있으며 우리나라에서도 발전 가능성이 큰 분야인 해조다당류산업, 해양신소재산업, 해양바이오연료산업, 해양제염산업, 해양심층수산업 등 다섯분야를 선정하고 이들 분야의 현황과 전망을 소개하였다. 각 분야별 소개는 산업발전 역사, 기술개발 수준, 산업화 정도를 포함하고 있으며, 국내외 산업경향과 앞으로의 발전 가능성을 조사하였다. 분석결과, 해양화학생물산업기술의 발전을 위해서는 해양생물공정 개발에 대한 적극적인 연구개발 투자와 해양생물과학자들과 생물화학공학자들간의 협력 연구가 앞으로 더 많이 필요하기는 하지만 해양화학생물산업의 미래전망은 매우 밝은 것으로 나타났다.

탄소섬유강화형 복합재료의 기계적 성질에 미치는 수환경의 영향 (The Influence of Water Environment on the Mechanical Properties of Carbon/Epoxy Reinforced Composite Materials)

  • This study is investigated of tensile and fatigue strength for advanced composite materials under hygrothermal environment. The materials used are two types of Carbon/Epoxy reinforced composite materials i.e., 13$0^{\circ}C$ cure-type composite T-1/347, and 18$0^{\circ}C$ cure-type MM-1/982X. These are composed by cross-ply laminates. Test condition is the distilled water of 8$0^{\circ}C$. The separate absorption contents estimated by the Fick's diffusion rule are similar to the experiment results. The tensile strength of T-1/347 wet specimens more increased than that of dry ones, but that of MM-1/982X decreased. The fatigue strengthes of both T-1/347 and MM-1/982X wet specimen more decreased than those of dry specimens.

조선·해양 기자재용 강재의 내식성에 미치는 분체도장 중 산화물 첨가의 영향 (Effect of Oxide Particles Addition to Powder Coating on Corrosion Resistance of Steel Used as Marine Equipments)

  • The demand for powder-coated steel used in the marine industry is increasing owing to their superior corrosion resistance. However, the powder coatings used in commercial products can deteriorate easily by the penetration of brine. In an attempt to suppress brine penetration into the powder coating and significantly increase the corrosion resistance, three types of oxide particles were added to the coating. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy tests in 3.5% NaCl solution were performed to evaluate the corrosion behaviors of the powder coating with oxide particles. The results showed that the addition of SiO2 particles to a powder coating severely decreased the corrosion resistance due to the easy detachment of agglomerated SiO2 particles with a coarse size from the coating layer. In contrast, the TiO2 and SnO2-added coatings showed better corrosion resistance, and the TiO2-added coating performed best in the test conducted at room temperature. However, conflicting results were obtained from tests conducted at a higher temperature, which may be attributed to the effective suppression of brine penetration by the fine SnO2 particles uniformly distributed in the coating.

  • Recently, outstanding progresses have been made in food industry, in all the processes involved in the conversion of raw materials into food products. This article describes two kinds of coolers for processing uncooded foor, namely vacuum coolers capable of rapidly cooling decomposing bacteria down to their critical temperature, and also cooling equipment for fresh vegetables based on the same principle as the vacuum cooler.

The R & D of SiC Fiber Reinforced Composites for Energy and Transportation Applications

  • Based on the inventions of continuous ceramic fibers, such as C, SiC, $Al_2O_3$ etc., by polymer precursor driven methods, there have been many efforts to fabricate ceramic continuous fiber reinforced composite materials with metals and ceramics matrices. The main purpose of the R & D efforts has been to produce materials for severe environments, including advanced energy systems, advanced transportation systems. The efforts have been started from the R & D of metal matrix composite materials and now the strong emphasis on ceramic matrix composites R & D can be recognized. This paper provides a brief review about the national efforts to establish advanced composite materials for future industries starting from mid 70s. C/Al and SiC/Al are the typical examples to be applied transportation systems and energy systems. The excellences in specific strength and overall mechanical properties, the excellences in environmental resistance make those materials as potential materials for advanced ocean construction and marine transportation systems. About the recent progress in ceramic fiber reinforced ceramic composites, advanced SiC/SiC composites including NITE-SiC/SiC will be introduced and the present status will be introduced.

Non-thermal plasma technology for abatement of pollutant emission from marine diesel engine

  • Plasma technology has long been regarded as a key essential tool in many industrial and technological sectors. However, the advancement of plasma technology in marine applications has not been fully realized yet. Herein, we present a short overview on the recent trends in utilization of plasma technology for air-pollution treatment in marine diesel exhaust. Four non-thermal plasma system, including electron beam dry scrubber (EBDS), dielectric barrier discharge (DBD), electron beam-microwave (EB-MW) plasma hybrid system, and plasma-catalytic hybrid system, are described with emphasis on their efficiency in removals of $NO_x$ and $SO_x$ gases. Non-thermal plasma has the great potential to be an efficient and environmentally compatible technique in simultaneous removals of $NO_x$ and $SO_x$ gases from the exhaust of marine diesel engine in the future.
