  • Precise digital elevation model (DEM) is an important issue in coastal area where DEMs in a time series are especially required. Although LIDAR system is useful in coastal regions, it is not yet popular in Korea mainly because of its high surveying cost and national security reasons. Recently, precise coastal DEM have been made using radar interferometry, waterline method. One of these methods, Spaceborne imaging radar interferometry has been widely used to measure the topography and deformation of the Earth. We acquired ALOS PALSAR FBD mode (Fine Beam Dual) data for evaluating the quality of interferograms and their coherency. The purpose of this study is construction of DEM using the ALOS PALSAR data using radar interferometry and analysis of surface characteristics by coherence and magnitude map over the Ganghwado and Siwha tidal flats and near coastal lands.

  • In this study, we identify the variables that affect the number of crime and spatial correlation in the Seoul metropolitan area, in addition, we measure the relative risk on the incidence of crime by a Poisson regression model. We suggest a statistical methodology to make a risk map for crime based on relative risk instead of the total event of crime by region using the Geographic Information System. To demonstrate the use and advantages of this methodology, this study presents an analyses of the total crime count in 25 wards in the Seoul metropolitan area.

  • This paper considers a six sigma project for improving the TIP life time in a spot welding process. The project follows a disciplined process of five phases: define, measure, analyze, improve, and control. A process map is used to identify process input and output variables. Nine key process input variables are selected by using C&E matrix and FMEA, and finally four vital few input variables are selected from analyze phase. The optimum process conditions of the vital few input variables are jointly obtained by maximizing TIP life time using DOE and alternative selection method.

  • Existing studies relative to enhancing sustainability of earth-work are mainly involved in the performance of construction equipments. They assume that there is no variation of the engine power and fuel consumption and classify the dozer operation into working and idle conditions. They enable to find the most eco-friendly equipment fleet deployment plan. However, they are confined in that they do not provide a measure to assess the sustainability of the operation plan and suggest optimal alternative(s). This paper presents a method that identifies an optimal dozer operation plan that assures sustainability by reducing fuel consumption of the equipment. The method computes the dozer operation productivity using engine-torque-output map provided by equipment manufacturers. Indeed, it identifies the eco-dozing operation that minimizes fuel consumption and maximizes the target productivity.

  • The Periplus of the Erythraean Sea is a Roman period guide to trade and navigation in the Indian Ocean. Justly famous for offering a contemporary and descriptive account of early Indian Ocean trade, the work has been subject to and a point of departure for numerous studies. Its extensive influence on scholarship is, however, also problematic, as it reflects the limited information and cultural and personal bias of its unknown author. Arguably this might have led scholars to overemphasise so-called western or Roman participation in early Indian Ocean trade. Network analysis allows us to map, visualize and measure interconnectedness in the Periplus Maris Erythraei. Many of these connections are not explicitly mentioned in the text, but by connecting not only places with places, but also products with places that export and import them, we get a partly different impression of Indian Ocean trade from that conventionally gathered from the Periplus. It allows us to ask questions about the relationship between coastal cabotage and transoceanic shipping, to identify regional trading circuits, and unexpected centres of long-distance exchange.

  • This paper presents the development of depth extraction algorithm for the stereoscopic endoscope data using a stereo matching method. generally, the purpose of existing stereo algorithms is to reconstruct stereo object surface and depth map. but the main purpose of our processing is to give exact depth feeling to doctor showing depth information in some points. for this purpose, this paper presents two stereo matching algorithms which are to measure exact depth. one is using variable window, and the other is reference points-based algorithm for a fast processing.

  • This paper is proposed a wavelet-based MCDT(Mask Coefficient Differential and Threshold) method of image registration of Multi-images contaminated with visible image and infrared image. The method for ensure reliability of the image registration is to the increase statistical corelation as getting the common feature points between two images. The method of threshold the wavelet coefficients using derivatives of the wavelet coefficients of the detail subbands was proposed to effectively registration images with distortion. And it can define that the edge map. Particularly, in order to increase statistical corelation the method of the normalized mutual information. as similarity measure common feature between two images was selected. The proposed method is totally verified by comparing with the several other multi-image and the proposed image registration.

  • We experimentally measure the kinetic energy and angular distributions of photoelectrons of $N_2$ as a function of 410 nm femtosecond laser intensity by using velocity map imaging technique. The strong-field multiphoton ionization of molecules shares many of the characteristics with those of atoms. Electron kinetic energies are nearly independent of laser intensities. The independence suggests that the electron peaks in the photoelectron spectrum actually result from a two-step process, indicative of the occurrence of real population in the intermediate states. The relative amplitudes of electron peaks indicate that in the two-step process, nonresonant population transfer dominates for low intensities, while resonant population transfer dominates for higher intensities.

  • A fuel spiking test was performed to measure the surge margin of gas turbine engines. The surge marin was mainly determined by the compressors and fuel spiking was used to change the operating point in the compressor characteristic map while speed remained constant. To access the surge margin region different spiking signals were applied by modulations of time(frequency) and fuel flow rate(amplitude). The test results showed good agreements with expected fuel spiking patterns and possibility of further studies.
