  • Recently, the fractal interpolation methods have been widely introduced and used to estimate and analyze various theoretical and experimental data. Because of the chaotic behaviors of dynamic cutting force data, some method for end-milling force analysis must be used. The fractal analysis used in this paper is fractal linear interpolation and fractal dimension. Also, several methods for computing fractal dimensions have been used in which the fractal dimension of the typical dynamic end-milling force was calculated according to number of data points that are generally lower than 200 data points sampled. This fractal analysis shows a possible prediction of end-milling force that has some dynamic chatter property or stationary property in endmilling operation.

  • In order to investigate the electrical conduction properties of polyethylene thin film for power cable with manufacturing methods, the thickness of specimen was the 30, 100[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] of LDPE and 200[${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$] of XLPE were manufactured. The experimental condition for conduction properties was measured until the breakdown occurs at temperature ranges from 30 to 110[$^{\circ}C$] and the electric field from 1$\times$10$^3$to 5$\times$10$^{6}$ [V/cm]. As for increase of temperature, the current density of LDPE was increased with constant ratio in low field, but changes with exponential function in high electric field. The tunnel current of pre-breakdown region is shifted toward low field as much as thermal excitation energy. At low electric field, the XLPE showed dominant electrical conduction properties by thermal excitation, and transformation of the electron was resisted by the crystal at high electric field.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the preparing methods of the traditional acupuncture needle and to interpret the electromagnetic meaning intervened in them. Methods : The overall manufacturing processes of the acupuncture needles in ancient books were surveyed. And the facts that special functional activities were carried out in common in the preparing processes were detected. The reproduction tests for the detected former functional activities were followed. Results : According to the ancient medical books, the traditional acupuncture needles were treated with the magnet through the preparing processes. The reproduction tests provided the fact that the ferromagnetic iron needles treated with the magnet were enhanced their magnetisms. And major techniques of the ancient supplementation and draining can be interpreted as magnetic or induced electromagnetic actions. Conclusions : Considering the electromagnetic characteristics of human body, the magnet treated ferromagnetic iron needles of ancient era and magnetic or induced electromagnetic interpretable manipulation techniques are the historical evidences of magnetic activities of acupuncture. So modern acupuncture therapy should be understood, studied, and reinterpreted as an electromagnetic viewpoint.

  • In this paper, the grinding characteristics in internal grinding methods(plunge, thrust) were studied with vitreous CBN wheels using machining center. Grinding experiments were performed according to the same material removal rate conditions such as a wheel speed, depth of cut and workpiece speed. And the grinding force, machining error and grinding ratio were investigated though these experiments. Based on the experimental results, the grinding characteristics on internal grinding methods were compared.

  • The contraction and expansion noise of a refrigerator are investigated, and some effective methods are proposed to reduce the level and occurrence frequency of noise. First, the noise of a refrigerator is measured to estimate the frequency spectrum and occurrence frequency of noise. Second, a sound visualization was conducted using an acoustic camera to determine the location of the noise source. From the results, it was observed that the internal part mainly producing noise was the third shelf in the freezer room. A method to estimate the acceleration on the location of the noise source is introduced to analyze the contraction and expansion noise precisely and accommodate experimental convenience. Noise reduction methods such as the replacement of the existing shelf with glass shelves, adoption of rail slides, and increase of roughness on the contact surface of the shelf are proposed and tested.

  • Poisson model and Gamma-Poisson model are popularly used to analyze statistical behavior from defective data. The methods are based on binary criteria, that is, good or failure. However, manufacturing industries prefer polytomous criteria for classifying manufactured products due to flexibility of marketing. In this paper, I introduce two multivariate Gamma-Poisson(MGP) models and estimation methods of the parameters in the models, which are able to handle polytomous data. The models and estimators are verified on defective pixels of LCD manufacturing. Experimental results show that both the independent MGP model and the multinomial MGP model have excellent performance in terms of mean absolute deviation and the choice of method depends on the purpose of use.

  • This paper aims to develop an intelligent model for predicting top-bead width for the robotic GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding process using BP(Back-propagation) neural network and multiple regression analysis. Firstly, based on experimental data, the basic factors affecting top-bead width are identified. Then BP neural network model and multiple regression models of top-bead width are established. The modeling methods and procedure are explained. The developed models are then verified by data obtained from the additional experiment and the predictive behaviors of the two kind of models are compared and analysed. Finally the modeling methods, predictive behaviors md the advantages of each models are discussed.

  • The manufacturing systems have to cope with the circumstance that the requirements of customers are changed abruptly and the life cycle of product becomes short. In this paper, to develop the efficient control and operation of autonomous, distributed machining systems the concept of Holonic Manufacturing System is adopted and methods for the control and operation of the system are proposed including an evaluation function for the negotiation between holons. And it is applied to scheduling and selection of operations to be worked with consideration of quality. It is expected that the proposed methods may be applied to operate autonomous, distributed machining systems.

  • This paper presents the results of field application test on the manufacturing of high fluidity concrete by applying flowing methods with segregation reducing type superplasticizer. Base concrete is made with 20% of fly ash, which is flowed during the transportation. According to test results, fluidity, placeability and segregation reducing performance meet the range of high fluidity concrete after flowing, while air loss occurs due to fly ash. There are no noticeable differences in compressive strengths between non-compacting and compacting methods. According to non-destructive tests with rebound and core strength test, we cannot detect any differences in strength according to the height in the structures.

  • In recent days, large-sized flat-panel display (FPD) has been increasingly applied to computer monitors and TVs. Mura defects, appearing as low contrast or non-uniform brightness region, sometimes occur in manufacturing of the Thin-Film Transistor Liquid-Crystal Displays (TFT-LCD). Implementation of automatic Mura inspection methods is necessary for TFT-LCD production. Various existing Mura detection methods based on regression diagnostics, surface fitting and data transformation have been presented with good performance. This paper proposes an efficient Mura detection method that is based on a regression diagnostics using studentized residuals for automatic Mura inspection of FPD. The input image is estimated by a linear model and then the studentized residuals are calculated for filtering Mura regions. After image dilation, the proposed threshold is determined for detecting the non-uniform brightness region in TFT-LCD by means of monitoring the every pixel in the image. The experimental results obtained from several test images are used to illustrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method for Mura detection.
