This study examines the dyeability of fabrics in relation to dyeing temperature, time, concentration, and the number of repeated dyeings. For this study, at first we extracted natural dyes from the peel of C.umshiu mandarin, which is fast as a dye and considered as recycling agricultural wastes. Additionally, it represents the image of Jeju Island. Then, we dyed cotton, wool, silk and nylon fabrics with the extracted dyes. The findings of this study are as follows. 1) Dyed cotton, wool, silk and nylon fabrics with the extract of C.umshiu mandarin peel are generally yellow. 2) Wool, nylon, silk, and cotton, in this order, are of good dyeability; Wool fabrics have the highest dyeability and cotton fabrics have the lowest. The dyeabilty of cotton fabrics was not improved even after dyeing in different conditions. 3) Colorfastness with washing, rubbing and perspiration are all good, while colorfastness with light is poor. 4) Higher dyeing concentration makes better dyeability. 5) Dyeability is enhanced as the dyeing temperature increases, while the dyeability of silk and nylon is relatively good even at low temperatures. 6) Looking at dyeability according to dyeing time, the longer the dyeing time, the better the dyeablility. Sixty minutes of dyeing time is appropriate to dye fabrics. 7) With an increase in the number of repeated dyeings, increased dyeability is obtaihed.

During storage of fruits, HMP and HSP of peel was decreased from 527.82mg/100g to 275.47mg/100g , and from 672.28mg/100g to 351.36mg/100g, respectively. WSP of peel was increased from 543.70mg/100g to 584.31mg/100g. Total pectin substance (TPS) of peel was decreased from 2809.79 mg/100g to 1874.29mg/100g during maturation, and from 1723.80mg/100g to 1211.14mg/100g during storage, respectively. Composition ratio of pectin was in order of WSP>HSP>HMP.
Eight flavonoids, including rutin, naringin, hesperidin, quercetin, hesperetin, nobiletin, 3,5,6,7,8,3',4'-methoxylated flavone, and tangeretin, in the peels of satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshiu) species of Halla, Gungcheon, Hungjin, Namgam-20, Illnam-1, and Chungdo harvested between August and December were analyzed through HPLC. Hesperidin content of Halla harvested during early maturation was 28.70 mg/g, and was the highest among the tested citrus fruits. Rutin content of Hungjin harvested during early maturation was 2.66 mg/g. Naringin in all citrus species and hesperetin in Halla, Gungchun, Namgam-20, and Chungdo were only detected in the peel of fruits harvested during early maturation. Hesperidin and rutin were detected mainly in all citrus species, and other flavonoids in trace. Flavonoid content in the peel of fruits was high during early maturation. Flavonoid contents in the peels of all fruit samples were generally high in the early stage of maturation, which then decreased rapidly.
Sound absorption capability of the flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboard was were estimated by two microphone transfer function methods. The weight of flame resistant treated board slightly increased by the treatment. The treatment improved fire retardant performance by decreasing the charred area of flame resistant treated board. Sound absorption capabilities of flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboard, in the entire estimated frequency range of 500-6,400 Hz was slightly lower than those of the control specimen. Sound absorption capability of both the control and flame resistant treated sawdust-mandarin peel composite particleboards were higher than that of commercial gypsum boards, being widely used as a sound absorber for ceiling at the estimated frequency.

This study investigated the Antimicrobial activity of Rutaceae fruit ethanol extracts against microorganisms-induced skin inflammation in cosmetic materials. Rutaceae fruits were separated in two parts of whole fruit (pulp, pulp fegment membrane, peel) and peel, and extracted with 70% ehtanol. The results demonstrated that Rutaceae fruit ethanol extracts showed antimicrobial activity in 5 strains except Staphylococcus aureus. In particular, the antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus epidermidis was the best in fresh lemons whole fruit. The antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli was shown only in fresh lemon peel and fresh trifoliate peel. Additionally, antimicrobial activity against Propionibacterium acnes was shown only in the dried lemon peel. In the results of antimicrobial activity against Pityrosporum ovale, in the case of fresh fruits, citron whole fruits showed the highest effect, followed by lemon whole fruits and mandarin orange peel. And in the case of dried fruits, orange peel showed the highest effect, followed by trifoliate peel, mandarin orange peel and lemon peel. Therefore, it is considered that lemon, which shows antimicrobial activity against all skin inflammation-causing microorganisms, can be used as a natural material for improving skin inflammation in cosmetics.
This study was carried out to investigate antioxidative properties of various extracts and antibrowning effects of extracts in apple slices were investigated by ${\Delta}E$ value and PPO relative activity. Apples were cut into 1.5 cm thickness and they were dipped in 1% extract solutions(OW: water extracts of onion, OE: 80% EtOH extracts of onion, AW: water extracts of apple, AE: 80% EtOH extracts of apple, MW: water extracts of mandarin orange peel, ME: 80% EtOH extracts of mandarin orange peel) for 1 min. OW showed higher than the other treatments for total phenolic contents(94.35 mg/g), PPO inhibition(74.00%). And the highest DPPH free radical scavenging activity(40.27%) measured in ME. ${\Delta}E$ value of apple slices dipped in MW was 2.37 whereas ${\Delta}E$ value of apple slices dipped in AW was 12.12. These results suggest that onion and mandarin orange peel extracts should be a potential source for controlling browning during storage of apple slices.
Physicochemical properties and sensory evaluation of Satsuma mandarin produced in Cheju were investigated . Fruit index(width/Length), soluble solids and acid content of Citrus unshiu marc. var. miyagawa(miyagawa) and C. unshiu marc. var.(okitsu) harvested at 1st December were 1.16 and 1.23, 12.12 and 12.01, 0.97 and 1.09, respectively. and the fruit of miyagawa was showed somewhat round in shape, compared to ikitsu. the taste of miyagawa seemed to be better than okitsu. However, compared to miyagawa, peel thickness was thinner, flesh ratio was higher, and firmness was higher as 0.502kg-force in kitsu. Nevertheless there were some differences among panelist groups in sensory evaluation , middle size of citrus fruits were favorable to most panelists, but except very small or very large size of fruits, there were not so much differences in okitsu. The panelists referred to somewhat flat-shaped fruits from that sensory evaluation score was increased to 1.3 in fruit index. nevertheless there were not so much differences in full-colored fruits, the citrus peel color of reddish yellow was more favorable than greenish or pale yellow color. the score was increased more linearly according to citrusfruit produced in optimum ciltivation area, and was prefered to thinner in peel thickness , Correlation between soluble solids, acid content , Brix/acid ratio and flesh ratio with sensory evaluation score were not showed significantly, it was different to with citrus juice. This data obtained in this experiments are supposed to be applied to the quality evaluation of Satsuma mandarin produced in Cheju .

In this study, we investigated the antioxidants activity by measuring electron donating ability and ABTS radical scavenging ability of the extracts from Rutaceae fruits (citron, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin orange, orange, trifoliate) to evaluate its use as a antioxidants in foods and cosmetics. Rutaceae fruits extract were separated in two parts of whole fruit (pulp, pulp fegment membrane, peel) and peel, dried, and then extracted with 70% ethanol. As a result of comparing the antioxidant effect at the concentration of 10,000 ㎍/mL, the electron donating ability was higher in the dried lemon peel extract (DLPE, 88.15%) and the dried citron whole fruit extract (DCWE, 80.44%), and the ABTS radical scavenging ability was highest in lemon peel and dried peel extract at 94.85% (FLPE) and 92.83% (DLPE). In conclusion, it was confirmed that lemon showed the highest antioxidant effect among the Rutaceae fruits(citron, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin orange, orange, trifoliate), and it was confirmed that the dried peel extract had a significant effect. Therefore it is considered that the dried lemon peel extract has the potential to be used as a natural antioxidant material in food and cosmetics.

This study was conducted to optimize the water homogenization process of mandarin orange peel for colored rice. Four variables were used to determine the optimum conditions for homogenization speed, time, temperature, and water volume with a five level central composite design and response surface methodology. The process was optimized using the combination of EI and b values of rice coated with water extract of the mandarin orange peel. The effect of water volume was the most significant compared to the other variables on the quality of water homogenate. The regression polynomial model was a suitable (p>0.05) model by lack-of-fit analysis showing high significance. To optimize the process, based on surface response and contour plots, individual contour plots for the response variables were superimposed. The optimum conditions for manufacturing water extract from mandarin orange was with 8,500 rpm homogenization speed, 2.8 min time, $53^{\circ}C$ temperature, and 42 mL water volume with the maximum of restricted variables of EI above 400 and h value above 24.
Background: In recent years, there has been considerable research on recycling of agro-industrial waste for production of bioactive compounds. The food processing industry produces large amounts of citrus peels that may be an inexpensive source of useful agents. Objective: The present work aimed to explore the phytochemical content, antioxidant, anticancer, antiproliferation, and antigenotxic activities of lemon, grapefruit, and mandarin peels. Materials and Methods: Peels were extracted using 98% ethanol and the three crude extracts were assessed for their total polyphenol content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activity using DPPH (1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl). Their cytotoxic and mitogenic proliferation activities were also studied in human leukemia HL-60 cells and mouse splenocytes by CCK-8 assay. In addition, genotoxic/antigenotoxic activity was explored in mouse splenocytes using chromosomal aberrations (CAs) assay. Results: Lemon peels had the highest of TPC followed by grapefruit and mandarin. In contrast, mandarin peels contained the highest of TFC followed by lemon and grapefruit peels. Among the extracts, lemon peel possessed the strongest antioxidant activity as indicated by the highest DPPH radical scavenging, the lowest effective concentration 50% ($EC_{50}=42.97{\mu}g\;extract/mL$), and the highest Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC=0.157). Mandarin peel exhibited moderate cytotoxic activity ($IC_{50}=77.8{\mu}g/mL$) against HL-60 cells, whereas grapefruit and lemon peels were ineffective anti-leukemia. Further, citrus peels possessed immunostimulation activity via augmentation of proliferation of mouse splenocytes (T-lymphocytes). Citrus extracts exerted non-cytotoxic, and antigenotoxic activities through remarkable reduction of CAs induced by cisplatin in mouse splenocytes for 24 h. Conclusions: The phytochemical constituents of the citrus peels may exert biological activities including anticancer, immunostimulation and antigenotoxic potential.
