Work-related Stress and Risk Factors among Korean Employees (한국 근로자의 업무관련성 스트레스와 위험요인)

  • Purpose: Work-related stress and risk factors among Korean employees were identified in this study. Methods: Data were obtained from employees aged 20 to 64 using the Korean Working Conditions Survey 2006 (KWCS). Multiple logistic regression analysis using SAS version 9.1 was performed to examine risk factors of work-related stress by gender. Results: The age-adjusted prevalence of work-related stress among male and female employees was 18.4% and 15.1% respectively. After adjustments for multiple variables among both male and female employees, there was a significant relationship between work-related stress and risk factors including education, company size, work time, ergonomic risks, biological chemical risks, and job demands. The significant variables for male employees were housework load, occupational class, and shift work, and for female employees, type of employment. Conclusion: There is a need to develop and support intensive stress management programs nationally giving consideration to work-related stress associated with working time, physical working environment, and job demands. Based on gender specific approaches, for male employes, stress management programs should be developed with consideration being given to occupational class and shift work. For stress management programs for female employees, consideration needs to be given to permanent employment status, specifically those in small companies.

Development of Common Database for the Application Programs of Distribution Management System (배전운영시스템용 응용 프로그램을 위한 공통 데이터베이스 구축)

  • In recent years, the development of application programs for distribution system analysis and control has been essential part for distribution management system (DMS). In this paper, we propose the common database for application programs of distribution management system. The proposed database model has several characteristics as followings. First, the proposed database model is designed for the common use of almost the whole distribution application software. The static equipment model and dynamic type tables are mixed and the parallel table structure is applied. Second, the linked list structure of database are used for the fast processing of applications. The database model includes the hierarchy and non-hierarchy distribution system structure. Third, the reduction method of distribution database is applied. For this, we present the network reduction rules. The basic concept of reduction rules are the electrical unification of successive line section which has not lateral branches and the removal of simple lateral branches which has no devices and other laterals. Proposed database model is tested for the Jeju system of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Through the test, we verified that the proposed database structure can be effectively used to accomplish the distribution system operation.

  • In this study, the scope of previous logistics security were focused only on port and ship. Because of it now extends to the overall (export and import) supply chain areas and in regards with supply security programs in the international level, it reviewed supply chain security programs categorized them into 'ships and port security system', 'container screening system', 'logistics chain authorization system' which are expanded to be adopted in the international level. The major features of those programs are summarized as in building risk management system, providing information ahead, selectivity test and benefits to AEO authorized companies in the customs administration level. The government and companies which are to ensure supply chain security and trade facilitation in order to cope actively with international customs administrative atmosphere need to do the followings : First, they need to build an intra-government integrated supply chain security and make efforts to conclude AEO MRA in order to increase trade competitiveness among major trading countries. Second, they need to build supply chain risk management system in order to enhance management performance through overseas market and company level strategy to obtain and maintain AEO authorization in the company level.

  • In the United States, forest administration is a constantly changing complex of policies, programs, and management regulations. Forest administration is the product of a brief but tumultuous history during which much of the forests which once covered half the land were coutover for farms, industry, and cities. In the last 15 years, forest administration has been increasingly dominated by concerns for maintaining an ecological balance. Current forest administration is deeply rooted in the American traditions of decentralized federalism and free enterprise, yet combines state socialism and private capitalism. The major elements of U.S. forest administration consist of : 1) programs and policies on taxation, professional education and research, and "cooperative forestry", 2) state controls on forest practices for privately owned lands, and of federal policies and regulations for the management of federal lands. The federal Forest Service has played a lead role in developing and implementing national forest policies and programs. Since the end of World War II, the national forests managed by the Forest Service for multiple use have provided and ever growing fraction of domestic timber needs. In the coming decades, cultural and social trends may force a change in management policy on federal land, reducing the importance of timber harvesting in relation to amenity values.

A Study on Development of Evaluation Scale for Health-Grade of Families (가정건강성 평가도구 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This study was designed to develop the evaluation scale for health-grade of families. For this goal the related references and the programs of Healthy-Families-Center were analyzed. In the context with the goals and objects of programs in Healthy-Families-Center the index for the evaluation the health-grade of families was deducted. And the concrete items of health-grade of families in 3 parts(R: relation, M: management, E: environment) was discussed. In order to verify the validity and significance of the scale the survey for 200 samples was performed and the data from 191 samples was statistically analyzed. We suggested the application methods of this evaluation scale for health-grade of families. So the 8 types of families were came out: RME, RMe, RmE, rME, Rme, rMe, rmE, rme. Using this type of families the consulting and counselling for the enhancement of health-grade can be developed. We reached the conclusion that this evaluation scale has to be continuously developed and eleborated because the health-grade of families is one of the most important index for the effect of programs of Healthy Families Center.

  • Quality assurance in high level education is one of the most important problems in Korea, and around the world. Many studies have examined means of assuring the quality of education, mostly focusing on what type of graduate we should launch into the real world. However, it has been realized only in technical fields, such as Engineering, Medicine, etc. Here, we discuss the problems of Korean high level education in scientific fields, and present some answers from American innovation policies. The USA has changed the idea about how to innovate, and in recent years has developed the Professional Science Master's(PSM) degree, which is now awarded by over 100 American universities. PSM programs have produced graduates who can innovate in scientific fields, e.g., in biology, environmental science, and statistics. The degree is highly praised by the Council On Competitiveness, which consists of CEOs of major corporations, university presidents, and heads of labor organizations. The PSM seems to meet their expectations. Interestingly, many research universities have established PSM programs. We examined the reasons why many American universities have accepted the PSM despite their daily duties for research and doctoral education. Finally, we discuss the possibility that programs such as the PSM can succeed in Korean universities.

Digital Transformations to Improve the Work and Distribution of the State Scholarships Programs

  • Purpose - Based on the analysis of Kazakhstan's experience of digital transformation, this study suggests a concept for digital solution to optimize organizational process, create trust networking between the center of state scholarships programs and recipients. In addition, the authors contribute to the current discussions of an effective digital transformation of state services. Research design, data, and methodology - Policy analysis is based on the combination of both primary and secondary materials collected during a Policy Research Project conducted in Kazakhstan in 2017. It involved semi-structured interviews with the state scholarship' recipients, ICT experts and findings from academic articles. Results - Findings are represented via Policy Development Matrix - a table with three options (status quo, partial change, total change) to deal with policy challenges. Authors suggest a concept for digital solution following the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) principles for optimizing core business processes, communication and networking strategies of the state scholarships program. Conclusions - At the time when digitalization becomes trending for states, the transformation of the state education policy is inevitable. The rapid development of digital technologies creates new opportunities for a single integration platform with key principles of Smart Remote Management in the state scholarships programs.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the education program for a healthy family support center. This will be a representative program which will differ from the education programs of other welfare centers. This study suggests 11 themes based on the elements of a healthy family. These programs aim to prevent and solve family problems. The 11 themes are as follows: family values, family relations 1 and 2 (couple/parent-children), parent coaching 1 and 2, family culture, resource management, multi-cultural families, working families, family volunteerism, and family consulting. This study focuses on creating a frame for this program which is integrated, systematic, and flexible. It also develops both family diagnosis sheets and educational content about various aspects of family life. Thus, this can be a core program which allows networking with other programs.

Effects of a Primary Healthcare Post Obesity Management Program for Middle-Aged Obese Women Living in Rural Areas (농촌 거주 중년 비만여성을 위한 비만관리 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze changes in body weight (kg) and body mass index (BMI) in middle-aged women following a 12 week exercise program. Methods: The obesity management program for primary health care posts, which consists of exercise therapy and dietary counseling, was provided for obese women aged 40 to 64 (N=15). General characteristics of the women and differences in body weight and BMI before and after the program were analyzed using SPSS 22.0. Results: The major findings of this study are as follows; Average body weight before the program was 65.7 kg, and it was significantly reduced to 63.9 kg after the program (z = -3.41, p = .001). The average level of BMI decreased considerably from 27.9 kg/m2 to 27.2 kg/m2 (z = -3.41, p = .001). Conclusion: The findings from this study show a significant decrease in body weight and BMI after the program. Continuous study is needed to develop a variety of obesity management programs for middle-aged obese women. When developing programs regional characteristics need to be considered and there is a need to confirm the effectiveness of the programs.

  • This study was conducted to investigate what contents nurses want in the intensive major course of junior nursing college. Data were collected for four months from October 2002 to February 2003 by structured questionnaires. Subjects were 240 registered nurses in working at five hospitals and four public health centers and elementary or middle schools in the capital and its suburbs and country. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS 8.0 program. The results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. Nurses working at hospitals want the programs which involve the contents as follows : emergency nursing/CPR, infection control, critical care, caner pt. care, pain control, hospice, pulmonary disease pt. care, analysis of lab. exam, heart disease pt. care, chronic disease pt. care, DM pt. care, digestive-system disease pt. care, nervous-system disease pt. care, elderly pt. care, immune-system disease pt. care, endocrine-system disease pt. care. 2. Nurses working at public health centers want the programs which involve the contents as follows : home nursing, family nursing, management of DM, HT, degenerative disease, and chronic liver disease, elderly pt. care, health education, maternity nursing, rehabilitation nursing. 3. Nurses working at elementary or middle schools want the programs which involve the contents as follows : prevention of drug abuse or misuse, sex education and consultation, health education, consultation technique, emergency care, prevention of child obesity, prevention and management of adult disease in children, teaching method, method of school health room management.
