Optimal Switching Frequency in Limited-Cycle with Multiple Periods

  • Due to the customer needs of reducing cost and delivery date shorting, prompt change in the production plan became more important. In the multi period system (For instance, production line.) where target processing time exists, production, idle and delay risks occur repeatedly for multiple periods. In such situations, delay of one process may influence the delivery date of an entire process. In this paper, we discuss the minimum expected cost of the case mentioned above, where the risk depends on the previous situation and occurs repeatedly for multiple periods. This paper considers the optimal switching frequency to minimize the total expected cost of the production process. In this paper, first, the optimal switching frequency model is proposed. Next, the mathematic formulation of the total expectation is presented. Finally, the policy of optimal switching frequency is investigated by numerical experiments.

  • Today transportation problems are severer with the increase of the vehicles and travel demand in urban areas, but could not be completely solved with only the expansion of the new transportation facilities. Because the expansion of the new transportation facilities are limited in urban areas. As one of the Transportation System Management(TSM) techniques in this study, the simulation results of the existing signal systems which were operated based upon the peak time periods for increasing the efficiency on the pretimed signalized intersections(PSI) during the different time periods : the AM on-Peak, the AM off-Peak, the PM off-Peak, and the PM on-Peak, were as follows : i) There was no distinct difference in the total traffic volumes concentrated on the signalized intersections during the different time periods, but a considerably big difference in the directional traffic volumes for those time periods. ii) There were about 53% reduction of the average delay and 51% reduction of the fuel consumption when applying the different signal systems to the different time periods regardless of the CBD and Non-CBD. iii) There were about 36% increase of the average delay and 33% increase of the fuel consumption when applying the same signal systems during the peak time periods to the different time periods regardless of the CBD and Non-CBD. Based on the above results, it was concluded that constructing the different signal systems for the different time periods would be better than construction the same ones for those periods on the pretimed signalized intersections in urban areas.

Optimal Production Capacity and Outsourcing Production Planning for Production Facility Producing Multi-Products (다제품을 생산하는 생산설비에 대해 최적 생산용량과 외주생산계획)

  • The demand for facility used in producing multi-products is changed dynamically for discrete and finite time periods. The excess or the shortage for facility is occurred according to difference of the facility capacity size and demand for facility through given time periods. The shortage facility is met through the outsourcing production. The excess facility cost is considered for the periods that the facility capacity is greater than the demand for the facility, and the outsourcing production cost is considered for the periods that the demand for facility is greater than the facility capacity. This paper addresses to determine the facility capacity size, outsourcing production products and amount that minimizes the sum of the facility capacity cost, the excess facility cost and the outsourcing production cost. The characteristics of the optimal solution are analyzed, and an algorithm applying them is developed. A numerical example is shown to explain the problem.

Effect of the Type of Apartment Management on Long-Term Repair Allowances and Common Management Fees : For Apartment Houses Subject to Mandatory Management Located in Busan (공동주택 관리형태가 장기수선충당금과 공용관리비에 미치는 영향 : 부산시 의무관리대상 공동주택을 대상으로)

  • Today, apartment houses account for a very high proportion of the types of residence. This study aims to present basic data for preparing a reasonable distribution plan by identifying factors considered in calculating the amount of collection of management fees. After reviewing previous studies on common management fees and long-term repair allowances, various data on apartment houses subject to mandatory management in Busan in 2020 were collected from the Apartment Management Information System to analyze the differences in influencing factors according to type of apartment management(self-governing management, consignment management). As a result of statistical analysis, the number of households and many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on long-term repair allowances, and many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on common management fees. In addition, the degree to which many construction elapsed periods had a negative(-) effect on long-term repair allowances and common management fees had less impact on consignment management than on self-governing management. And the long-term repair allowances were imposed less by consignment management, common management fees were charged less by self-governing management. The results of this study will serve as basic data for rational distribution of long-term repair allowances and common management fees to residents and managers of apartment houses subject to mandatory management in Busan.

Classification ofWarm Temperate Vegetations and GIS-based Forest Management System

  • Aim of this research was to classify forest types at Wando in Jeonnam Province and develop warm temperate forest management system with application of Remote Sensing and GIS. Another emphasis was given to the analysis of satellite images to compare forest type changes over 10 year periods from 2009 to 2019. We have accomplished this study by using ArcGIS Pro and ENVI. For this research, Landsat satellite images were obtained by means of terrestrial, airborne and satellite imagery. Based on the field survey data, all land uses and forest types were divided into 5 forest classes; Evergreen broad-leaved forest, Evergreen Coniferous forest, Deciduous broad-leaved forest, Mixed fores, and others. Supervised classification was carried out with a random forest classifier based on manually collected training polygons in ROI. Accuracy assessment of the different forest types and land-cover classifications was calculated based on the reference polygons. Comparison of forest changes over 10 year periods resulted in different vegetation biomass volumes, producing the loss of deciduous forests in 2019 probably due to the expansion of residential areas and rapid deforestation.

Study of BOD5 Variation Patterns with Flow Regime Alteration in the Tributaries (지류하천의 유황분석을 통한 BOD5 농도변화 유형 분석)

  • We analyzed the variations of water quality with flow regime alterations to determine the characteristics of the stream where the stream management is considerably difficult due to the high variability of the flow rates. In this study, both flow rates and water qualities were monitored at the tributaries, 34 in count, of both Geum River and Sabgyo Lake Basins. The variation of water qualities were divided into 2 types, based on their stream flow rates, known as Type I and Type II. If the water quality of a stream increases during low flow rate periods compared with high flow rate periods, it is classified as Type I; if the water quality of the stream increases during high flow rate periods compared with low flow rate periods, it falls under Type II. The analysis for the variations of water qualities, of all 43 basins, resulted to 24 basins under Type I and Nineteen 19 basins under Type II. The variations of water qualities were analyzed first by using Regression Analysis followed by Statistical Analysis. The average slope of the variations of water qualities and the slope of the standard deviations were 0.00135 and 0.00477, respectively. The Probability Distributions of both Type I and Type II basins were 61.1% and 38.9%, respectively. The basin having a probability distribution of 61.1% and is also known as Type I, increases during periods of low flow rates, due to the presence of point sources. Therefore, the basin should be enforced with stream management. Before the stream management can be implemented in all streams falling under Type II, the sources of contaminants should first be estimated. These contaminants can be classified into two parts, the first is Point source pollution and the second is Non-point source pollution, where the Non-Point source pollution can be sub-divided into two types, with storm runoff and without storm runoff.

Measuring Expected Meal Duration for Restaurant Revenue Management (레스토랑 수익 관리를 위한 적정 식사 시간 측정에 관한 연구)

  • Restaurants have two strategic levers for revenue management: duration control and demand-based pricing. Reducing dining times, especially during peak periods, can add considerable revenue for restaurants. Managing meal duration, however, can be far more complex than manipulating the price. This paper examines dining duration expectations for restaurants types(Family, Korean, Quick service restaurant), customers characteristics(gender, age, occupation, meal period, visiting frequency, dining occasion, dining companions) using an a adaptation of a price sensitivity measurement tool, naming it 'Time Sensitivity measurement tool' or TSM. The TSM is then used to derive the optimal time points, and the range of acceptable times. The results demonstrate that there is a relatively wide spread of acceptable dining duration times in family restaurant. Furthermore, the optimal time points was shorter than the mean expected dining times, which suggests that many restaurants may be able to shorten dining duration without compromising customer satisfaction. The paper explores whether demographic and dining variables have an impact on time preferences, and finds whether gender, age, meal periods, visiting frequency, and dining companion effects are significant. Specifically, women in their thirties tended to prefer a significantly longer dining times for dinner.

Work-Life Balance Designing at Transitional Periods of Life: Focusing New Employees at Foreign IT Companies in Korea (외국계 IT기업 남녀 신입사원의 생애 전환기 일-생활 균형 기획기획)

  • This study examines the work-life balance designing of new employees using qualitative research. Eight new employees at foreign IT companies in Korea were interviewed in two groups composed of two male workers and two female workers. The research determined two main themes and seven sub-themes related to the participants work-life balance using theme analysis. The first main theme was 'working conditions' which had sub-themes, 'performance-based system in foreign IT companies', 'flexible working conditions', 'family-friendly company culture', and 'positive evaluation of the company'. The second main theme was 'work-life balance' which included the sub-themes, 'changing priority during transitional periods of life', 'work-family balance designing as a family unit', and 'difficulties balancing between work and family'. The results revealed that workers prospected that flexible working condition might solve the demands of the child-rearing period and that work-family balance was determined as a family unit. Additionally, there were gender differences in the relationships between working conditions and work-life balance.

The Reaction of the Malaysian Stock Market to the COVID-19 Pandemic

  • The present study was conducted to understand the turmoil effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the Malaysian stock market during the different periods of the Movement Control Order (MCO). The present study was based on the secondary data extracted from the DataStream and Bloomberg from 2nd January 2020 to 29th May 2020 to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on the Malaysian stock market. The findings suggested that during the different periods of the Movement Control Order (MCO) from the 1st January to 29th May 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic adversely affected the performance of KLCI index and all sectoral indices. The weakest performance indices were energy, property, and finance while the least affected indices were healthcare, technology, telecommunications, and media. This paper provides a review of the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic on the Malaysian stock market throughout the different periods of MCO.

  • Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a chronic lung disease of preterm infants with multiple factors affected from prenatal to postnatal periods. Despite significant advances in neonatal care over almost 50 years, BPD rates have not decreased; in fact, they may have even increased. Since more preterm infants, even at periviable gestational age, survive today, different stages of lung development affect the pathogenesis of BPD. Hence, the definition of BPD has changed from "old" to "new." In this review, we discuss the various definitions of BPD, risk factors from the prenatal to postnatal periods, management strategies by phase, and future directions for research.
