With the explosive growth of smart phones and efficiency, the Android of an open mobile operating system is gradually increasing in the use and the availability. Android systems has proven its availability and stability in the mobile devices, the home appliances's operating systems, the IoT products, and the mechatronics. However, as the usability increases, the malicious code based on Android also increases exponentially. Unlike ordinary PCs, if malicious codes are infiltrated into mobile products, mobile devices can not be used as a lock and can be leaked a large number of personal contacts, and can be lead to unnecessary billing, and can be cause a huge loss of financial services. Therefore, we proposed a method to detect and delete malicious files in real time in order to solve this problem. In this paper, we also designed a method to detect and delete malicious codes in a more effective manner through the process of installing Android-based applications and signature-based malicious code detection method. The method we proposed and designed can effectively detect malicious code in a limited resource environment, such as mobile environments.

Recently, with the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing technologies, security threats have increased as malicious codes infect IoT devices, and new malware spreads ransomware to cloud servers. In this study, we propose a threat-detection technique that checks obfuscated script patterns to compensate for the shortcomings of conventional signature-based and behavior-based detection methods. Proposed is a malicious code-detection technique that is based on malicious script-pattern analysis that can detect zero-day attacks while maintaining the existing detection rate by registering and checking derived distribution patterns after analyzing the types of malicious scripts distributed through websites. To verify the performance of the proposed technique, a prototype system was developed to collect a total of 390 malicious websites and experiment with 10 major malicious script-distribution patterns derived from analysis. The technique showed an average detection rate of about 86% of all items, while maintaining the existing detection speed based on the detection rule and also detecting zero-day attacks.

In the Internet of Things (IoT), resource-limited smart devices communicate with each other while performing sensing and computation tasks. Thus, these devices can be exposed to various attacks being launched and spread through network. For instance, attacker can reuse the codes of IoT devices for malicious activity executions. In the sense that attacker can craft malicious codes by skillfully reusing codes stored in IoT devices, code-reuse attacks are generally considered to be dangerous. Although a variety of schemes have been proposed to defend against code-reuse attacks, code randomization is regarded as a representative defense technique against code-reuse attacks. Indeed, many research have been done on code randomization technique, however, there are little work on analysis of the interactions between code randomization defenses and code-reuse attacks although it is imperative problem to be explored. To provide the better understanding of these interactions in IoT, we analyze how code randomization defends against code-reuse attacks in IoT and perform simulation on it. Both analysis and simulation results show that the more frequently code randomizations occur, the less frequently code-reuse attacks succeed.

In the past about 10 different kinds of malicious code were found in one day on the average. However, the number of malicious codes that are found has rapidly increased reachingover 55,000 during the last 10 year. A large number of malicious codes, however, are not new kinds of malicious codes but most of them are new variants of the existing malicious codes as same functions are newly added into the existing malicious codes, or the existing malicious codes are modified to evade anti-virus detection. To deal with a lot of malicious codes including new malicious codes and variants of the existing malicious codes, we need to compare the malicious codes in the past and the similarity and classify the new malicious codes and the variants of the existing malicious codes. A former calculation method of the similarity on the existing malicious codes compare external factors of IPs, URLs, API, Strings, etc or source code levels. The former calculation method of the similarity takes time due to the number of malicious codes and comparable factors on the increase, and it leads to employing fuzzy hashing to reduce the amount of calculation. The existing fuzzy hashing, however, has some limitations, and it causes come problems to the former calculation of the similarity. Therefore, this research paper has suggested a new comparison method for malicious codes to improve performance of the calculation of the similarity using fuzzy hashing and also a classification method employing the new comparison method.

Unlike existing widely used bytecode-centric Android application code obfuscation methodology, our scheme in this paper makes encrypted file i.e. DEX file self-extracted arbitrary Android application. And then suggests a method regarding making the loader app to execute encrypted file's code after saving the file in arbitrary folder. Encrypted DEX file in the loader app includes original code and some of Manifest information to conceal event treatment information. Loader app's Manifest has original app's Manifest information except included information at encrypted DEX. Using our scheme, an attacker can make malicious code including obfuscated code to avoid anti-virus software at first. Secondly, Software developer can make an application with hidden main algorithm to protect copyright using suggestion technology. We implement prototype in Android 4.4.2(Kitkat) and check obfuscation capacity of malicious code at VirusTotal to show effectiveness.

As cyber threats using malicious code continue to increase, many security and vaccine companies are putting a lot of effort into analysis and detection of malicious codes. However, obfuscation techniques that make software analysis more difficult are applied to malicious codes, making it difficult to respond quickly to malicious codes. In particular, commercial obfuscation tools can quickly and easily generate new variants of malicious codes so that malicious code analysts can not respond to them. In order for analysts to quickly analyze the actual malicious behavior of the new variants, reverse obfuscation(=de-obfuscation) is needed to disable obfuscation. In this paper, general analysis methodology is proposed to de-obfuscate the software used by a commercial obfuscation tool, Themida. First, We describe operation principle of Themida by analyzing obfuscated executable file using Themida. Next, We extract original code and data information of executable from obfuscated executable using Pintool, DBI(Dynamic Binary Instrumentation) framework, and explain the implementation results of automated analysis tool which can deobfuscate to original executable using the extracted original code and data information. Finally, We evaluate the performance of our automated analysis tool by comparing the original executable with the de-obfuscated executable.
Due to the development of information and communication technology, the number of new / variant malicious codes is increasing rapidly every year, and various types of malicious codes are spreading due to the development of Internet of things and cloud computing technology. In this paper, we propose a malware analysis method based on string information that can be used regardless of operating system environment and represents library call information related to malicious behavior. Attackers can easily create malware using existing code or by using automated authoring tools, and the generated malware operates in a similar way to existing malware. Since most of the strings that can be extracted from malicious code are composed of information closely related to malicious behavior, it is processed by weighting data features using text mining based method to extract them as effective features for malware analysis. Based on the processed data, a model is constructed using various machine learning algorithms to perform experiments on detection of malicious status and classification of malicious groups. Data has been compared and verified against all files used on Windows and Linux operating systems. The accuracy of malicious detection is about 93.5%, the accuracy of group classification is about 90%. The proposed technique has a wide range of applications because it is relatively simple, fast, and operating system independent as a single model because it is not necessary to build a model for each group when classifying malicious groups. In addition, since the string information is extracted through static analysis, it can be processed faster than the analysis method that directly executes the code.
Sharing cross-site resources has been adopted by many recent websites in the forms of service-mashup and social network services. In this change, exploitation of the new vulnerabilities increases, which includes inserting malicious codes into the interaction points between clients and services instead of attacking the websites directly. In this paper, we present a system model to identify malicious script codes in the web contents by means of a remote verification while the web contents downloaded from multiple trusted origins are executed in a client's browser space. Our system classifies verification items according to the origin of request based on the information on the service code implementation and stores the verification results into three databases composed of white, gray, and black lists. Through the experimental evaluations, we have confirmed that our system provides clients with increased security by effectively detecting malicious scripts in the mashup web environment.
At the opening ceremony of 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, an unknown cyber-attack occurred. The malicious code used in the attack is based on in-memory malware, which differs from other malicious code in its concealed location and is spreading rapidly to be found in more than 140 banks, telecommunications and government agencies. In-memory malware accounts for more than 15% of all malicious codes, and it does not store its own information in a non-volatile storage device such as a disk but resides in a RAM, a volatile storage device and penetrates into well-known processes (explorer.exe, iexplore.exe, javaw.exe). Such characteristics make it difficult to analyze it. The most recently released in-memory malicious code bypasses the endpoint protection and detection tools and hides from the user recognition. In this paper, we propose a method to efficiently extract the payload by unpacking injection through IDA Pro debugger for Dorkbot and Erger, which are in-memory malicious codes.

Cyber threats are also increasing with recent social changes and the development of ICT technology. Malicious codes used in cyber threats are becoming more advanced and intelligent, such as analysis environment avoidance technology, concealment, and fileless distribution, to make analysis difficult. Machine learning technology is being used to effectively analyze these malicious codes, but a lot of effort is needed to increase the accuracy of classification. In this paper, we propose a malicious code detection technology based on API call interval characteristics to improve the classification performance of machine learning. The proposed technology uses API call characteristics for each section and entropy of binary to separate characteristic factors into sections based on the extraction malicious code and API call order of normal binary. It was verified that malicious code can be well analyzed using the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm for the extracted characteristic factors.
