The experiment has investigated the effects of growth, yield, fruit quality and cation absorption of strawberry 'Akihime' in different $NO_3-N:NH_4-N$ ratio in nutrient solution. $NO_3-N:NH_4-N$ ratios were 5.5:0, 4.0:1.5 and $3.0:2.5me{\cdot}L^{-1}$. As the ratio of $NH_4-N$ increased, pH was decreased by $5.0{\sim}6.0$ and EC sustained $0.8{\sim}1.0dS{\cdot}m^{-1}$ during experiment. Though in high $NH_4-N$ ratio of $3.0:2.5me{\cdot}L^{-1}$, the absorption of cations(K, Ca and Mg) was not inhibited. Treatment in contained $NH_4-N$ showed a tendency of increasing of petiole length and leaf width. The fruit length, fruit width, fruit weight and soluble solids were not significantly different. Yield per plant was lowest in $4.0:1.5\;me{\cdot}L^{-1}$, of $NO_3-N:NH_4-N$ ratio. Malformation fruit has not shown during the whole growth period.

Geometrical characteristics of fresh red pepper(Capsicum annuum L.) were measured and indexed to define some important geometrical characteristics, and malformation of body and fruit stalk which are necessary for the design of the equipments for cutting, spreading and alignment of red pepper in developing a fruit stalk remover of fresh red pepper. The effects of bending of body and fruit stalk on the equipments of cutting, spreading and alignment were studied. The maximum lengths of some parts of fresh red pepper were found to be 180 mm, 125 mm, 144 mm, 67 mm and 76 mm for the body, the bent part of body, the fruit stalk, the bent part and the straight part of fruit stalk, respectively. The fresh red pepper with bending indices more than 0.4 and 0.3 for the body and the fruit stalk, respectively, was defined to be malformed based on the result of cutting rate using cutting unit; while the other ones to be normal in shape. Based on this, among the total fresh red peppers tested, 47%, 40% and 20% were found malformed for the body, the fruit stalk, and for both of the body and the fruit stalk. Malformed red peppers were poorer in spreading and alignment than normal ones, and the processed quantity was decreased with increased feed rate. The required time for the malformed peppers to pass on the alignment plate inclined at 30 increased rapidly at 8.3 Hz with increased feed rate. For the fresh red peppers with average moisture content of 85%,w.b., the maximum tensile strength between fruit stalk and body was 88.1 N; the maximum cutting resistances were 92.1 N and 94.9 N for the fruit stalk-calyx joint and body, respectively. Average coefficients of static friction were 0.99, 0.62, 0.59 and OJ, respectively, for the surfaces of rubber, galvanized iron, acryl and plywood.
The effects of stigma removal from floral organ and treatment of auxin on those regions were evaluated on the fruit growth and quality in strawberry (Fragaria ananassa Duch.). The removal of stigma reduced the fruit weight, fruit length, and fruit width, while fruit growth declined as the number of removed stigma increased. The removal of stigma also resulted in reduced fruit firmness, sugar content, and total anthocyanin content, and decreased value of Hunter a for red color and increased value of Hunter b for yellow. The number of seeds deceased as the regions of removed stigma increased. The treatment of auxin on the region of removed stigma improved fruit size, while it reduced fruit firmness, sugar content, and anthocyanin content. The delay in fruit ripening was observed from both stigma removal and auxin treatment. The incidence of malformed fruits increased as the regions with removed stigma increased. The treatment of auxin also promoted fruit malformation.

Apple scar skin viroid (ASSVd) is one of the smallest viral pathogens infecting fruits, especially apple, and causes a significant damage to fruit trees. ASSVd usually induced the skin-dapple ring symptoms, but in 'Fuji' varieties, corked spot were occurred on the fruit skin in 2009. This new symptom will be of great helpful to diagnosis ASSVd in sight. ASSVd was surveyed in apple and pear from 2009 to 2010 in Korea, and ASSVd was identified in 20 out of 1,193 trees. The infection rate was 1.7%. To screen the infectivity of ASSVd among apple cultivars, real-time RT-PCR was applied followed by designing of ASSVd specific primers based on highly conserved regions of several ASSVd isolates including Korean isolate. NADH dehydrogenase subunit 5 (nad 5) gene, which is mRNA of the mitochondrial gene, was used for internal control. In this study, ASSVd infected apples were classified into 12 groups depending on different symptoms and symptom severity (scaring, rusting or malformation). Taken together, this study suggested that real-time PCR analysis was more sensitive to detect the low copy of ASSVd on early viroid infected apple skins than regular RT-PCR method.
We have researched on methods which can reduce fruit-body malformations of king oyster mushroom(Pleurotus eryngii). We collected many pathogens from diseased fruit-body or malformated fruit-body and identified with chemicobiological test and microscope. The factors of fruit-body malformations and increment of contamination during the pin-heading induction time were researched with ventilation amounts in growing room. When the pathogens having high pathogenicity were inoculated in spawn running bottle and at pin-heading induction time, symptom appeared or not appeared in according to air ventilation amounts in growing room. During the pin-heading induction time, humidity degree in growing room have kept of high level and air ventilation amounts were so little that fruit-body malformations ratio was high. But, even though pathogens were inoculated at the surface of bottle factitiously, if air ventilation amounts were enough, fruit-body malformation ratio was low.
A strain of Cucumber mosaic virus(CMV) was isolated newly from sweet pepper(Capsicum annuum var. angulosum) showing necrosis with large necrotic spots on fruits and vein banding with malformation on leaf at Cheongdo area in Gyeongsangbukdo. The new strain was designated as a CMV-NP and the shape of virus particles was isometric of 26 nm in diameter from the sweet pepper fruit by Dip method. The strain of CMV-NP was identified genetically by VC/RT-PCR. CMV-NP could infect systemically on the 9 indicator plants including Cucumis sativus, but it could infect locally on Chenopodim amaranticolor and C. quinoa. CMV-NP induced the specific symptoms of necrotic rings on the inoculated and the upper leaves of N. rustica and Tetragonia expansa. On Cucumis sativus, the large chlorotic ring and vein chlorosis were produced on the upper leaves. CMV-NP had no virulence on Datura stramonium.

In worldwide, viral diseases of apple plants has caused the serious problems like reduced production and malformation of fruits. Also, the damages of apple plants by virus and/or viroid infection (Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus, Apple stem grooving virus, Apple mosaic virus, and Apple scar skin viroid) were reported in Korea. However there is few report about the protection approach against the infection by apple viruses. Therefore, this paper introduced the experimental protocol for the development of virus-free apple cultivars (Danhong, Hongan, Saenara, Summerdream). Apple plants were treated at $37^{\circ}C$ for 4 weeks and shoot tips were cultured in vitro. After heat treatment, the detection of apple viruses was performed by RT-PCR using virusspecific detection primers in new apple cultivars. With the heat treatments followed by in vitro shoot tip culture, the proportion of virus-free stocks of 'Danhong', 'Hongan', 'Saenara', and 'Summerdream' was 28%, 16%, 12%, and 12%, respectively. Taken together, this approach can be a good tool for production of virus-free apple stocks.

In this paper, we report a characterization of Prunus necrotic ringspot virus (PNRSV) isolate. The virus was identified from 'Yumyeong' peach showing mild mosaic on leaves in commercial orchard of 'Umsung', Chungbuk province in Korea. The virus isolate produced ringspot symptom on the inoculated cotyledons and systemic mosaic and malformation on the upper leaves of Cucumis sativus. Systemic mottles were appeared in Chenopodium quinoa. When the buds of the virus infected stem were grafted on the healthy young Prunus persica GF305 seedlings, line pattern with mosaic appeared within 3 months. Isometric virus-like particles were found in parenchyma cells and plasmodesmata of C. sativus leaves inoculated mechanically with the virus. The cDNA fragments of PNRSV coat protein (CP) region, approximately 675bp, were synthesized from genomic RNA extracted from virus-infected leaves by RT-PCR using specific primer pairs. Partial nucleotide sequences of the CP regions were determined and analyzed with the known PNRSV. The CP gene of PNRSVKorea isolates showed 93.9~94.7% similarity to the 4 known PNRSV isolates.

An Isometric virus was isolated from Paprika (Capsicum annuum var. glossum) showing necrosis spot and malformation on the fruit and the leaves, respectively, at yecheon in Korea. The virus could infect locally on Chenopodium amaranticolr, C. quinoa, Petunia x hybrida and Nicotiana glutinosa, but could not infect on Gomphrena globosa and Physalis floridana. The virus could infect systemically on red pepper and Lycopersicon esculentum. Datura stramonium, N. cleuarandii, N. rustim and N. tabacum cvs. were produced necrosis or necrotic ring spot lesions on the inoculated leaves and mosaic, vein necrosis or lethal death on the upper leaves. The virus was not related serologically to cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). In RT-PCR assay, it could not detected with specific primers of CMV and BBWV-II. The virions contain one molecule of genomic RNA, Which was approximately 3.8Kb and the coat protein (CP) of the purified virion migrated as a single band with molecular wight of about 29KDa in SDS-PAGE.
An isolate of Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), PaFMl-CMV causing malformation on the fruit of paprika (Capsicum annuum var, grossum) was characterized based on biological reactions, serological relationships, and partial nucleotide sequence analyses. PaFMl-CMV was distinguishable from other isolates of CMYI Mf-(subgroup I) and LS-CMV (subgroup II), in terms of its reactions to some host plants. Polyclonal antibody against PaFMl-CMV showed homologous antigenic relationship with LS-CMV, however, the antibody formed a spur between PaFMl- and Mf-CMV, In the comparison of molecular size of dsRNAs of PaFMl-CMV with Mf- and LS-CMV, PaFMl-CMV had a slightly smaller RNAl and larger RNA2, RNA3, and RNA4. When the CDNA product of PaFMl-CMV coat protein (CP) gene was digested with some restriction enzymes, the fragment pattern was identical with that of LS-CMV The nucleotide and amino acid sequences of PaFMl-CMV CP gene were 99.5% and 98.6% identical with LS-CMV respectively. The data indicate that PaFMl-CMV belongs to subgroup II of CMV, which is the first report in Korea.
