  • This study aims to discussion the characteristics of location and spatial organization of the Seoul Sajikdan that has significance as one of national ceremonial place in Joseon Dynasty to understand its landscape architectural characteristics. To do this, we studied in two ways; review of historical documents and analysis of the present conditions and photographing, research materials about the form of physical structure. Through these ways, the results are as follows. First, in case of construction, Sajikdan took fundamental shape in Tae-jong 16 year(1416), since then it had been changed during Imjin War, reign of Suk-jong, and Japanese Colonial Era. It took present shape through restoration of Seoul Sajikdan in 1998. Second, in case of location, Sajikdan abuts onto southeastern range of Mt. Inwang that is Wubaekho(右白虎) of inner four mountain(內四山) of Hanyang, and it has a topography of west-high-east-low type. Also its territory is up to Maedong elementary school, the office of Sajik-dong, and a Dangun shrine. Third, in case of spatial organization, Sadan and Jikdan are in harmony of Yin-Yang(陰陽) and arranged in the center. As making Yumun and Sinmun(神門) at the center of four side of Yuwon and Juwon(周垣), they show organization of the Five Elements. And subsidiary buildings are thought that its arrangement was considered functional similarity and use convenience. Finally, in case of spatial component, Danyu structures are Sadan and Jikdan that hold a Sajikdaeje(社稷大祭), Yuwon that surround two altars, and Juwon that is outer fence of Yuwon. Architectures are Sajikdan Jeongmun, Sinsil, and Anhyangcheong. Also Prunus yedoensis, Zelkova serrata, Acer palmatum, are planted, but Pinus densiflora was main species and there needs to be replanted suitably to the site.

  • "Dokseoyeoga Do"(An Enjoyable Pleasure with Reading) is a work included in a collection book of both poems and works called as "Gyunggyo Myungseung Cheop"(Collections of Beautiful Scenary in the Suburb of Seoul) with a promise that a great painter Gyumjae Jung-Sun(謙齋 鄭敾) and his lifelong friend, Sacheon Lee Byung-Yeon(李秉淵) should hopefully exchange their poems and painted works. So far, general perspective of art history toward this work is either self-portrait of Gyumjae himself or genre painting of the aristocrat. The purpose of this study is to interpret in-depth meanings implied in this work with various considerations of plant elements appeared in this work. As a result of this study, We could draw newer and additional meanings beyond the existing perspectives of art history research categories, and the details can be summarized as following below. First of all, we could approach a new interpretation implying that Gyumjae and Sacheon hopefully wished their well-being, friendship, and reunion. Second, as a means of expressing this meaning, plant elements like old juniper(Juniperus chinensis L.), orchid(Orchidaceae), and peony(Paeonia lactiflora var. hortensis) were used. Third, each plant element can be literally seen as an icon implying message that Gyumjae desired to give to Sacheon. To be more detailed, experience and greenness of old juniper imply well-being of two people, and orchid implies fragrant friendship, and peony implies the feeling that Gyumjae hopefully desired to make a reunion with a parted friend. The significance of this study is that throughout old paintings, we could observe substantial examples of recognizing the meanings of plant elements in a category of traditional landscaping and utilizing them. Moreover, adding various point-of-views of many professional categories like Korean Landscaping history in the traditional painting research, we could also recognize the potentials for making rich interpretation toward implicated meanings of old paintings.

  • This study investigated the memories of the natives and the migrants who had been living with the 760-year-old Zelkova serrata located in the Keangnam Apartment Complex in Dogok 1-dong. Place memory is a newly illuminated concept since the 1980s, and is also used as a new research methodology for studying and recording multi-layered memories left in a place based on feelings and traces of vivid memories. The urban development of Gangnam, which began in the 1970s, quickly changed rural to apartment complexes. The natives of Yeokmal were scattered throughout the country, and new migrants moved in. In the process, zelkova serrata was managed in different ways from time to time, and residents also establish relationship in different ways. Natives used to take a rest in the tree or swing at Dan-o, and recognized it as a place to receive the god during the village ritual. In other words, they shared the entire process of life and death and were given various roles depending on the lives of the residents. It is also a direct experience that was experienced in detail and a place where collective memories of residents are melted. On the other hand, with the construction of Keangnam Apartment, the management of zelkova tree has become stricter, making it impossible for migrants to access. Migrants have come to enjoy zelkova serrata visually, and the annual Yeokmal Traditional Festival makes common memories in the city. In addition, many people personified trees and received mental comfort. In addition, the nature of the old big tree was highlighted in the background of the city, and the symbol of "uniqueness and speciality" was newly formed, which led to the formation of pride and attachment. Through the memories of the two subjects' zelkova tree, we were able to examine the memories of the tree value, and management of protected tree in the city.

  • 15 artificial ponds in Seoul have been examined to find out the characteristics of Odonata community according to age and size of pond. We found 6 Families 36 Species of Odonata community, and Libellulidae was the most frequent and 19 Species were observed among Libellulidae. Considering relative importance with frequency of appearance and density, Ischnura asiatica and Orthetrum albistylum was the most frequent. Also, 16 Species including Lestes temporaris, Sympetrum parvulum, and Anax nigrofasciatus were relatively rare. The result of dominant species tells that Ischnura asiatica in 1 ~ 3 year old ponds, Pantala flavescens-Orthetrum albistylum-Crocothemis servilia mariannae in order of mention in 4 ~ 6 year old ponds, Platycnemis phyllopoda-Ischnura asiatica in order of mention in 10 or more year old ponds are the dominant species. Species diversity index regarding age of pond has been researched, and species diversity index in 10 year old pond was higher than that of in 1 ~ 3 year old pond. Having done the analysis of variance for types of spawn, there are many species Endophytic egg-layers and pasting in mud or sand in 10 year old artificial ponds. The wider ponds get, the higher species diversity index gets. And, we suggest that desirable size for making artificial ponds to increase the species diversity index of Odonata is $100{\sim}300m^2$.

  • Korea established an inventory of 1,916 sites of inland wetlands during a nationwide investigation from 2000 to 2010. If inland wetlands is included in or near various protected areas designated by the government, it can be selected as a wetland to be managed with priority. This study evaluated the aspect of management of inland wetlands by analyzing the correlation between locations of national protected areas and inland wetlands. As a result, it was shown that a considerable percentage of current inland wetland was located in areas that were designated and managed as protected areas by the government, as they had a high value of natural environment protection (527 sites, 31.61 %). When the range was widened to a radius of 1 km for protected areas, 959 sites were included and 57.53 % of sites were located in or nearby the protected areas. Among them, 46.79 % of sites were distributed up to or within a 1 km radius of waterside areas and rivers; it accounted for 81.33 % of wetlands located in protected areas. Therefore, it was found that locations of current inland wetlands were mostly in contact with rivers. The results of overlay analysis were classified into high, medium and low; the correlation of location with inland wetlands was analyzed through the analysis of separation distance of various protected areas. The number of wetlands located in areas of a 'high' value of protection was 998 (59.87 %); 289 sites (17.34 %) were distributed in areas of a 'low' value of protection. This implies that these wetlands are located in artificial areas and are more exposed to environmental pressures. Thus, these wetlands could be determined as inland wetlands, which we considered for the establishment of measures to prevent damage.

  • This study was conducted to develop recycle revegetation methods for the restoration of the steep slopes by using fresh wood chip from construction sites. In general, the fresh wood chips can be used as soil media for the restoration works, because they can increase infiltration of rainfall and give enough porous to breathe and elongate for the root growth as well as economic value. The experiment was carried out to compare the effect of fresh wood chips from different mixing with soil, organic material and macromolecular compound which used for slope restoration works conducted by Hyunwoo green(Ltd.). The main results by monitoring for two years are summarized as follows; 1. The soil media made with low percentage of fresh wood chip covered quickly by herb plants. Especially, the soil mixture Type C (wood chip 20%) showed 80 percent ground coverage within two months after seeding. 2. The soil mixture type E (wood chip 40%) and type F (wood chip 50%) which contains more fresh wood chips than soil type C was under 30 percent ground coverage because wood plants are germinated well. If the restoration works aims at making forest, then the soil type E and F would be recommended than using soil type C. 3. Among the woody plants, Ailanthus alfissima, Pinus rigida, Pinus densiflora, and Albizzia julibrissin showed high percentage of germination rates and vigorous growth. In case of shrubs, Lespedeza cyrtobotria and Indigofera pseudo-tintoria scored high percentage of germination rates. 4. In native plants, Chrysanthemum indicum, Artemisia princeps, Lutos corniculatus and Imperata cylindrica showed high percentage of appearance. In case of introduced herbs, Coreopsis lanceolata, Coreopsis tinctoria and Oenothera oborata grew so vigorously. 5. The soil types which including fresh wood chips over 30-40 percentage showed the most diverse plant composition and the most effective germination rates and growth pattern with woody plants. 6. This works to develop recycle revegetation methods using fresh wood chips need more efforts for monitoring the exact effect of fresh wood chips as the soil media.

  • It is a Known fact that driving through long tunnel increases possibility of traffic accident because of psychological feeling of insecurity and dispersion of drivers' concentration since driving in narrow and limited space for a longtime. It, therefore, results in raising transportation and environment problems, such as traffic accident difficult to be properly dealt with and ventilation. This study aims at proposing a method of augmenting driving amenity by improving the internal lighting facilities in the tunnel. The study is conducted by investigating internal landscapes of tunnels by lighting colors, which are currently being operated. The Color Planning System (CPS), developed by SHARP Co. Ltd, is exploited for selecting adjective that express the sensitivity image on lighting colors. The CPS is an example that applies to sensitivity of human body for products design development. The CPS takes the following process to define the color : 1) expressing "Pvoduct's Image" as "A Word (adjective)" and 2) referring "A Word" to "Image Scale", and 3) determining the color through this "Image Panel". The study is processed by making a questionnaire using the semantic differential (SD) scale, grasping the consciousness structure of experimental persons through the Factor Analysis, and building a model in which dependent variable is "Degree of Preference" about internal landscape in tunnel using LISREL(LInear Structural RELations).

  • This survey is focused on analyzing amenity resources for the purpose of offering basic sources for balanced development and the activation of sightseeing in Anmyen-island which has superior landscape resources and the result follows as this. 1. As a result of selecting "Amenities characterized in isles" and comparing their applications in order to choose amenity resource surveying method which is suitable for the isle districts where beaches, tidelands, fishing villages and so on are formed, it was considered that the surveying method of the rural amenity resource in the Korean Society of Rural Planning could be properly used. 2. In spite of a variety of amenity resources besides ten beaches, Anmyeon-island has been developed only focused on beaches. Therefore, it is highly recommended to develop new sightseeing courses which connect beaches with adjacent amenity resources such as theme programs. 3. It proved that compared with Anmyeoneup, Gonammyeon has superior landscape resources and higher special product rates, which is caused by the fact that it doesn't have various kinds of amenities. As diverse fish inhabit the sea and tidelands in Gonammyeon, it is beneficial for activating sightseeing tours to develop fishing village experiencing programs including going fishing. 4. Anmyen-island can be divided into East district and West distict by the national road no,77 and two districts have different distributional features of sightseeing amenity resources. In the west district, amenity resources such as coastal sightseeing routes, large event halls, and resorts have been activated in addition to fourteen beaches which have already been developed while the amenity resources in the east like fishing villages, tidelands, and salt fields have not been activated. Accordingly, for activating balanced sightseeing development in Amyeon-island, it is required to make plans which can incorporate the east amenity resources of sea sightseeing and the west amenity resources of fishing village experiencing programs. As a way, constructing sightseeing routes connecting the west and the east district or making a detour lane connecting beaches in the west, Anmyeon pine trees in the center, and fishing villages in the east.

  • The purpose of this study is to formulate an evaluation model and to select evaluation factors for designing scenic roads and designating existing roads as scenic roads. The definition of a "scenic road" contains the purpose not just of travel or access but visiting itself. The value of a scenic road can be enhanced through the preservation of natural environment along the road or the installation of artificial facilities. In order to promote objective scenic road selection and evaluation, the authors used Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is a multi-criteria decision making method. The weighting value was 0.382 for the value of landscape along the road, 0.154 for the value of landscape in the road, 0.269 for the characteristics of the road, and 0.196 for the management of the road.
