  • Parents' desire for daily English practice for students and the urge for a etter English education has led to a demand for a highly qualified educational curriculum. In addition to getting deep-dive insights into parents' decision-making process, the increasingly important role of STEM education method has been proved in accordance with plenty of evidenced-based many of previous research. This study was conducted to examine the five independent factors affecting parents' intentions when designating English centers for their children, respectively named: Facility, Teachers, Brands, Social factors and Tuition. Through a preliminary approach, 235 samples were analyzed. Analysis of the sample responses reveals the importance level of five independent factors affecting Parents' intention to choose English centers in descending order: Facilities, Teachers, Brands, Tuition and Social factors. Furthermore, a positive correlation was found between STEM and Intention to choose English centers, indicating that whether the center applies STEM-related curriculum in English courses or not, in fact, has a significant impact on parents' decision. In terms of attitude towards STEM, further statistical tests revealed an interesting finding, which is the fact that how STEM affects Intention of parents is directly proportional to the Attitude towards STEM. With the help of SPSS 20 and AMOS 20, the SEM analysis was processed in order to draw conclusions about factors impacting Intentions to choose English centers. Combining with Multi-group analysis, the major role of STEM education has been assessed in relation to plenty of correlations. In light of recent major and massive growth of English teaching market in Vietnam, several suggestions and recommendations in terms of sustainable developments have been displayed in this research.

  • Citrin deficiency resulting from mutations of SLC25A13is associated with two major clinical phenotypes; neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis caused by citrin deficiency (NICCD) and adult-onset type 2 citrullinemia (CTLN2). In Korea, 7 cases of citrin deficiency have been diagnosed based on biochemical and molecular findings. Four NICCD cases were identified by newborn screening using MS/MS or presenting symptoms like cholestatic jaundice. They are all males, presenting with conjugated hyperbilirubinemia, elevated liver enzymes, hypoalbuminemia, mild hyperammonemia, elevated citrullin, methionine and threonine. All of them have been spontaneously recovered from hepatic manifestation by the age of 6-8 months. Mutation analysis has been performed using their genomic & cDNAs obtained from skin fibroblasts. They turned out to be compound heterozygotes carrying each of 851del4, IVS11+1G>A, and IVS13+1G>A. Three CTLN2 patients were identified. Two adult male patients presented with a sudden loss of consciousness, seizure, vomiting, hyperammonemia and citrullinemia in their twenties. They carried an IVS13+1G>A, 851del4, and IVS11+1G>A mutant alleles. The other CTLN2 patient was 52 year old female patient, manifesting lethargy, altered consciousness, irritability and hyperammonemia. Similar clinical symptoms had recurred at the delivery of first and second babies in her past medical history. She was managed by hemodialysis and survived with neurological sequellae. Also, we screened the presence of 9 common mutations in 500 Korean newborns using dried blood spot of filter papers. Only a allele carried 854del4 mutation. In conclusion, the entire picture of citrin deficiency in Korea including incidence, genotype, clinical features and natural courses, is still vague at the present time.

  • This study is aimed at sowing two purposes. The first is to analyze the real condition and demand of profession development from the human ecology majors. The second is to develop necessary methods in which ordinary people can collect necessary information about family life. Related questionnaire was distributed to 147 the human ecology majors, and analysis was performed on the several web sites providing with information related to family life. Web sites such as“www.yahoo.com”and“www.naver.com”were included in the analysis. Questionnaire consisted of questions about whether the students majoring in the human ecology were familiar with the information-related terms or futuristics-related books, and whether they have ever taken the related courses in college. The results of analysis are as follows: First, analysis shows that the present level of the human ecology majors' information orientation and networking experiences is extremely low. Secondly, according to the analysis on whether they have optimistic or pessimistic attitude toward the contemporay informatized society, the human ecology majors have rather optimistic attitude in group while having pessimistic one individually. As to their response to the question about whether informatized society is connected with industrial society or not, the human ecology majors are divided in neatly equal ratio. Thirdly, analysis of the human ecology majors' understanding of profession relevant to their major indicates that they have high level of perception and information about the professions of fashion designing, traditional garment designing, nutrition counselling or consumer counselling. On the other hand, they are not familiar with the information about professions such as professional QR Programming, eating habit-related information business and family welfare. Lastly, level of web sites supplying information about family life is fragmentary. Especially, probe into the directories providing with necessary information of family life subdivided into special areal of life shows that they lack systematic organization making more convenient consumer use.

  • The main points of issue with the former premedical curriculum of Seoul National University College of Medicine (SNUCM) were the absence of educational objectives, decline in student motivation caused by uniform education, students' lack of a sense of belonging, and lack of humanistic education. In accordance with these issues, there were five aspects considered for the improvement of the premedical curriculum: reform based on the newly established educational objectives that corresponds with the 6-year medical school curriculum as a whole, expansion of elective courses and the development of personalized curriculum for the improvement of students' learning motives, expansion of social sciences and humanities curriculum for the development of students' capabilities as good doctors, active participation of medical professors in premedical education, and expansion of informal education and the student support program. According to the assessment done after the implementation of the reformed curriculum, premedical students were gratified with its establishment and management of multifarious liberal arts and major subjects. In preparation of the more rigorous entrance quota of the premedical school at SNUCM, there is ongoing reform of required major subjects and establishment of new subjects in the premedical curriculum in pursuit of unity with the 6-year medical curriculum. Moreover, there is ongoing development of an e-portfolio system for the association of premedical and medical education, integration of formal and informal curriculum, and reinforcement of student observation and formative evaluation. Further discussion on the assessment and betterment of premedical curriculum is needed.
