  • Heteromagnetic nanostructures, which consist of two or more different layers such as nonmagnet, insulator, ferromagnet, antiferromagnet, and superconductor, have been widely used in current and likely future spintronics devices. Their many intriguing magnetic properties are originated from a variety of magnetic interactions at relevant length scales at or near interfaces and between different constituent layers as well as laterally different regions in chemical and magnetic heterogeneity. The fundamental properties can thus differ along depth and laterally in the film plane, depending on their relevant coupling length scales. The entire properties may be characterized by interface properties and/or the depth-varying properties of the individual constituent layers, and lateral inhomogeneity as well. It is a challenge to investigate both depth-varying properties and lateral heterogeneity in such heteromagnetic nanostructures. In this talk, soft x-ray magneto-optical effect as a nanometer scale probe of a variety of heteromagnetic structures is presented and its related noble techniques are introduced. For instances, magnetization vector imaging to investigate vector spin configurations in the film plane is presented, as well as the Kerr rotation, ellipticity, and intensity measurements as a depth sensitive probe on the atomic scales.

  • In this study, a Web server was constructed using LabVIEW's DataSocket, which makes possible acquisition, analysis, and saving in real time. The output value of the optical current sensor at the web server PC was measured and the output value was displayed using the Web browser of the client PC. DataSocket by LabVIEW makes the construction of a Web server easier than other languages and is compatible with other application programs. An optical current sensor was composed using a 1310 [nm] laser diode, and 9/125 [${\mu}m$] standard single mode optical fiber and was created to be a close type sensor. Data measurement using Web servers has the advantage of monitoring electric power systems at a great distance and can fuse IT technology and electric power systems. Also, this measurement uses inexpensive mounting and programming when compared to existing measurement equipment allowing the construction of a measurement system in any situation or surrounding.

  • Optical current sensor and optical voltage sensor modules were designed and fabricated to improve measurement error and insulation in automatic power distributor By using Faraday effect, optical current sensor with an $\alpha$-iron core was designed and fabricated to minimize current induction of the other phase and was optimized to maintain linearity. Optical voltage sensor was fabricated owing to the pockets effect and adopted spatial electric field type because of small room in an automatic power distributor. To connect a distributor with an external terminal for signal processing, optical multi connector was designed, fabricated and tested for coupling loss and gas leakage. The linearity of optical current sensor for applied current maintains variation of smaller than 2.5% for applied current range from 20A to 700A. The linearity of optical voltage sensor was smaller than 1% for appling voltage from 6.6kV to 19.8kV. Since the measured characteristics are good, these devices can be considered as being applicable in practice.

  • We report on the design and experimental results of a large diameter faraday rotator for the high-power laser system(KLF: Kaeri laser facility) that was completed in late 2007s at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. The design involves modelling the magnetic field of cylindrical coil with large diameter(110 mm). Magnetic field generation coil is designed by 6 layers using a rectangular wire with cross-sectional area $3{\times}5[mm^2]$. We obtain an isolation ratio for optical feedback of 35 dB at 1064 nm and magnetic field strengths ${\sim}25kG$. We expect that the design can be widely used optical isolators in high-power laser system.

  • In recent years, the merging of nanomaterials and nano-technology into electro-optic (EO) device technology such as liquid crystal displays (LCDs) has attracted much attention because of their unique electro- and magneto-optic properties and novel display applications. One example of hybrid LC-inorganic systems is semiconductor nanorods added to LC for their strong reorientation effect and tunable refractive index. Doping of nanoparticles in LC or polymers can lead to changes in performance characteristics such as electro-optical, dielectric, memory effect, phase behavior, etc. Due to the tunability of LCDs with mixed inorganic materials, low voltage operation of a LC system can also be achieved using the significant electro-optical effect achieved through suspension of ferroelectric nanoparticles in NLC.

  • Magneto Electrolytic Polishing (MEP) is a process in which metal ions are removed from a abrasive through a combination of magnetic electric current and chemical solution. The substrate is immersed into the magnetic effect, chemical solution, and DC crunt is applied. Several factors affect the rate at which the metal ions are removed from the substrate. Three of the most significant are the amount of time in which the substrate is immersed I the solution, and the amount of direct current applied in magnetic field. In this study, the surface finishing characteristics and optical finishing condition for the stainless steel were experimented upon and analyzed.

  • In our study, the Hanle spectrum and nonlinear magneto-optic effect (NMOE) signals were observed as a function of magnetic field on $D_1$ line of $^{87}Rb$ atoms contained in a paraffin coated vapor cell. We observed the double structure from the Hanle and the NMOE spectrum in the paraffin coated Rb vapor cell. The narrow spectral width of the narrow resonance signal is approximately 1 kHz and the magnitude is approximately 10 percent of the total spectrum. Also, the NMOE signals corresponding to the Hanle configuration consisted of two different dispersion-like features. At the near zero magnetic field, a sharp slope signal was centered, and its value was 10 mV/${\mu}T$ with laser power was $200{\mu}W$.

  • Large-area micropatterned array of Co/Ni bilayer anti-dots was fabricated using photolithography and wet etching process. The surface morphology as well as the surface topography was checked by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy, whereas the magnetic properties were studied by magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) and magnetic force microscopy (MFM). Systematic studies of the magnetic-reversal mechanism, the in-plane anisotropy and the switching field properties were carried out. To get a comprehensive knowledge about the domain configuration, we also employed OOMMF simulations. It was found from the MOKE measurements that a combined effect of configurational and the magneto-crystalline anisotropy simultaneously works in such micropatterned bilayer structures. In addition, the inclusion of holes in the uniform magnetic film drastically affected the switching field. The MFM images show well-defined domain structures which are periodic in nature. The micromagnetic simulations indicate that the magnetization reversal of such a structure proceeds by formation and annihilation of domain walls, which were equally manifested by the field-dependent MFM images. The observed changes in the magnetic properties are strongly related to both the patterning that hinders the domain-wall motion and to the magneto-anisotropic bilayered structure.

  • In this paper, we described the laboratory layout of the optical CT in connection with the measurement of large current based on Magneto-Optic Effects. It was used He-Ne laser for light source and was used PIN-Photodiode for light receiver. The sensing section was organized by winding optical fiber around conductor on the concept that the rotation angle of polarizing axis by Faraday Effect is proportional to the applied current in to conduction. The optical signal passed through optical fiber sensor was induced to analyzer arranged in the direction of $\theta$ for input polarization, and then analyzed its rotation angle and researched on operating characteristics of optical CT for 60[Hz] AC current measurement from l00[A] to 1000[A] was carried out. In this results, the output signals induced linearly with the current and proved that the intensity is increased with increasing turns of fiber through output differences which in accordance with turns of fiber and we verified that there is not only difference of the output with the medium between electric field and optical fiber, but also the lineality. Measuring the references and output intensities of the optical CT, ratio errors were within $\pm$7%. This confirmed that error rate will be improved by each medium and turns.
