Angular Modulation of the Giant Magnetoresistance at the Second Antiferromagnetic Maximum in Co/Cu Multilayered System

  • In order to study the effect of the magnetic anisotropy on the giant magnetoresistance in a Co/Cu multilayered system, the angle dependent magnetoresistance (MR) was measured. The experimental results showed that the maximum MR ratio depends on the angle between the direction of the applied field and the easy axis. The angular modulation of the MR ratio can be explained by the alignments of the two 'effective' magnetization vectors that are bound to their own easy axes. Two maxima observed in MR loops at the second antiferromagnetic maximum are discussed in relation to the magnetic anisotropy, The simulated results under the assumption of the existence of two in-plane easy axes in the sample are compared with the experiments.

ANISOTROPY CONSTANTS OF $(Sm_{0.5}RE_{0.5})Fe_{11}Ti$ COMPOUNDS (RE=RARE EARTH)

  • Using by the x-ray diffractometry(XRD), the thermomagnetic analysis(TMA), a scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX), we knew that the $(Sm_{0.5}RE_{0.5})Fe_{11}Ti$ (RE=Ce,Pr,Nd,Sm,Gd,Tb) compounds were formed to tetragonal $ThMn_{12}$-type structure having a uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy with easy magnetization c-axis. The intrinsic magnetic properties of those were determined by fitting the two magnetization curves of experimental and calculation magnetization. The anisotropy constant $K_{1}$ of this compounds was in the range of $1.75\;-\;9.2\;MJ/m^{3}$ and approximately one order higher than $K_{2}$. $SmFe_{11}Ti$ had the highest anisotropy of $K_{1}\;=\;9.2\;MJ/m^{3}$, $K_{2}\;=\;0.4\;MJ/m^{3}$ and ${\mu}_{o}H_{A}=\;19.8\;T$ among the compounds, substitution of any other rare earth elements for Sm decreased magnetocrystalline anisotropy.

이중구조 거대자기저항-스핀밸브 박막의 자기등방성 영역분포에 관한 연구 (Regional Distribution of Isotropy Magnetic Property of Dual-type Giant Magnetoresistance-Spin Valve Multilayer)

  • NiFe/Cu/NiFe/IrMn/NiFe/Cu/NiFe 이중구조 GMR-SV 박막의 열처리 조건에 의존하는 자기등방성 영역분포 특성을 조사하였다. 진공 챔버내에서 이중구조 GMR-SV 박막을 후열처리 온도를 조절하여 면상에서 강자성체 층의 자화용이축 회전을 유도하였다. 자유층과 고정층의 자화용이축 방향에 의존하는 이중구조 GMR-SV 박막의 자기저항곡선은 외부자기장의 각도를 $0^{\circ}$에서 $360^{\circ}$까지 변화시킨 후 외부자기장의 세기에 따라서 측정하였다. 후열처리 온도가 $107^{\circ}C$일 때, 외부자기장의 방향이 $0^{\circ}$에서 $90^{\circ}$까지 영역에서 자장감응도가 약 1.52 %/Oe인 자기등방성 특성을 보였다. 이러한 특성은 고정층과 자유층을 형성하는 강자성층들이 면상에서 서로 직교한 결과임을 나타내며, 자기등방성 GMR-SV 박막 소자는 임의 방향으로 자화된 마이크로 자성비드를 검출할 수 있는 고감도 바이오센서로 사용할 가능성을 제시하였다.

E-Beam Evaporated Co/Cr and Co/Mo Multilayer Thin Films

  • Magnetic properties and crystallographic structure of e-beam evaporated Co/Cr and Co/Mo multilayer thin films were investigated using VSM and XRD. Co/Cr and Co/Mo multilayer thin films are confirmed as an alternating layered structure. The structure of films with thicker Co layers than Cr and Mo layers are found to be a hcp structure with the c-axis perpendicular to the film plane. The direction of the film plane is the easy magnetization one. There is a no significant difference in shape of hysteresis loops between Co/Cr and Co/Mo multilayer films. It is found that Mo layer is more effective than Cr for preparing Co layer with c-axis normal to the film plane.

Exchange Bias Coupling Depending on Uniaxial Deposition Field of Antiferromagnetic FeMn Layer

  • The relationship between ferromagnet anisotropic magnetization and the antiferromagnet atomic spin configuration was investigated for various angles of the uniaxial deposition magnetic field of the FeMn layer in the Corning glass/Ta(5nm)/NiFe(7nm)/FeMn(25nm)/Ta(5nm) multilayer that was prepared by the ion beam sputter deposition. The exchange bias field ($H_{ex}$) obtained from the measurement of the easy-axis MR loop decreased to 40 Oe at the deposition field angle of $45^{\circ}$, and to 0 Oe at the angle of $90^{\circ}$. When the difference between the uniaxial axis between the ferromagnet NiFe and the antiferromagnet FeMn was $90^{\circ}$, the strong antiferromagnetic dipole moment of FeMn caused the weak ferromagnetic dipole moment of NiFe to rotate in the interface.

ANNEALING BEHAVIOR OF FeN THIN FILMS

  • FeN thin films were deposited on glass by RF diode reactive sputtering. The films were annealed in the air and in vacuum. The film annealed in the air showed sharp decrease of saturation magnetization and change of easy axis direction to hard axis direction and vice versa after $300^{\circ}C$ anneal. The coercivity decreased down to 0.5 Oe after $400^{\circ}C$ anneal. After $450^{\circ}C$ anneal, the film showed ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}N$ phase. The films annealed in vacuum showed coercivity increase after $300^{\circ}C$ anneal for the film deposited with initial substrate temperature of $35^{\circ}C$ and after $400^{\circ}C$ anneal for the film deposited with initial substrate temperatue of $170^{\circ}C$. These films showed $Fe_{16}N_{2}$ X-ray peaks after $450^{\circ}C$ anneal.
