The differential electromagnetic transducer for IME(implantable middle ear) system, which have two small permanent magnets glued with the same pole facing each other in the coil, has high vibration efficiency and does not influenced by external magnetic field. In this paper, using finite element method, highly efficient structure of the transducer was proposed and vibration force of the transducer was calculated by electromagnetic theory. And the necessary vibration force of transducer to transmit the sound signal to inner ear when the transducer is attached at stapes was calculated and the design parameters of the transducer were investigated. Using the parameters, the differential electromagnetic transducer was manufactured in small size to implant in confined human middle ear. And it was examined by unloaded and loaded vibration experiment using temporal bone sampled from cadaver.

In this paper, a magnetic-less dc-dc switching converter realizing an integrable power conversion system is described. Instead of magnetic devices, the inductive impedance range of piezoelectric transducers is utilized to store and resonate the energy for soft-switching. Piezoelectric devices have no windings and deliver the power by the electrodes, which lead to mass product through semiconductor-manufacturing process. This paper presents a resonant-type step-up dc-dc power converter employing a disk-type piezoelectric transducer, analyzing the operation principles and the frequency control characteristics. Also, a topology extension of the single stage converter into cascaded multi-stage is presented and analyzed with the operation principles and control characteristics. For verification of the analysis, a 10W output dc-dc power converter hardware was implemented. The hardware experiments shows a good frequency control and power efficiency greater than 96% in the single stage. A hardware prototype of the extended multi-stage one was also realized and tested. The results shows that the converter has the same frequency control performance and high efficiency such as 93%.
Objective: To investigate the feasibility of assessing the viscoelastic properties of the brain using magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) and a novel MRE transducer to determine the relationship between the viscoelastic properties and glymphatic function in neurologically normal individuals. Materials and Methods: This prospective study included 47 neurologically normal individuals aged 23-74 years (male-to-female ratio, 21:26). The MRE was acquired using a gravitational transducer based on a rotational eccentric mass as the driving system. The magnitude of the complex shear modulus |G*| and the phase angle 𝛗 were measured in the centrum semiovale area. To evaluate glymphatic function, the Diffusion Tensor Image Analysis Along the Perivascular Space (DTI-ALPS) method was utilized and the ALPS index was calculated. Univariable and multivariable (variables with P < 0.2 from the univariable analysis) linear regression analyses were performed for |G*| and 𝛗 and included sex, age, normalized white matter hyperintensity (WMH) volume, brain parenchymal volume, and ALPS index as covariates. Results: In the univariable analysis for |G*|, age (P = 0.005), brain parenchymal volume (P = 0.152), normalized WMH volume (P = 0.011), and ALPS index (P = 0.005) were identified as candidates with P < 0.2. In the multivariable analysis, only the ALPS index was independently associated with |G*|, showing a positive relationship (β = 0.300, P = 0.029). For 𝛗, normalized WMH volume (P = 0.128) and ALPS index (P = 0.015) were identified as candidates for multivariable analysis, and only the ALPS index was independently associated with 𝛗 (β = 0.057, P = 0.039). Conclusion: Brain MRE using a gravitational transducer is feasible in neurologically normal individuals over a wide age range. The significant correlation between the viscoelastic properties of the brain and glymphatic function suggests that a more organized or preserved microenvironment of the brain parenchyma is associated with a more unimpeded glymphatic fluid flow.
The velocity changes of magneto surface acoustic wave (MSAW) have been investigated in the MSAW devices composed of wedge type transducer and as-sputtered ($Fe_{1-x}$$Co_{x}$ )$_{89}$$Zr_{ 11}$ (x=0~1.0)amorphous films on glass substrates. The velocity changes of devices depended sensistively on exciting frequency of MSAW, applying the DC bias magnetic field. film thickness and film composition. Particularly. it was conformed that velocity changes increased with the increase of the exciting frequency of MSAW and the thickness of magnetic films. A device deposited x= 0.8 film along the MSAW propagation direction among the devices exhibited a large velocity change of 0.062% at 8.7 MHz for the applied field of 70 Oe.

The main subject of this paper is to develop analytic method with which output power or sensitivity variations of a magnetostrictive ultrasonic transducer can be estimated with no aid of experiments. After the bias magnetic field deployed over the patch is calculated using finite element analysis for magnetostatics, the representative value is extracted by averaging these field values. The operating point on the characteristic curve for magnetostriction is identified by this value and then the output performance is calculated from it. It is verified that the results from this simple model match well with those of its experimental version and some limits of this modeling technique are also considered.
Conventional MRI methods using T1-, T2-, diffusion-, perfusion-weighting, and functional imaging rely on characterizing the physical and functional properties of the tissue. In this review, we introduce an imaging modality based on measured the mechanical properties of soft tissue, namely magnetic resonance elastography (MRE). The use of palpation to identify the stiffness of tissue remains a fundamental diagnostic tool. MRE can quantify the stiffness of the tissue thereby providing a objective means to measure the mechanical properties. To accomplish a successful clinical setting using MRE, hardware and software techniques in the area of transducer, pulse sequence, and imaging processing algorithm need to be developed. Transducer, a mechanical vibrator, is the core of MRE application to make wave propagate invivo. For this reason, considerations of the frame of human body, pressure and friction of the interface, and high magnetic field of a MRI system needs to be taken into account when designing a transducer. Given that the wave propagates through human body effectively, developing an appropriate pulse sequence is another important issue in obtaining an optimal image. In this review paper, we introduce the technical aspects needed for MRE experiments and introduce several applications of this new field.

Magnetic nanoparticles for ferromagnetic fluids and magnetorheological fluids were prepared by chemical coprecipitation and mechanical milling, respectively. The surface-treated particles were dispersed at various weight ratios into a medium of polyethylene glycol. In order to evaluate the elastic modulus of the fluids, ultrasonic pulse velocities were measured with an ultrasonic test using transducers of 5MHz and 2.25MHz. The ultrasonic signals were only available with a transducer of 2.25 MHz at fluid concentrations of 5 mg/ml and lower. In the case of applying transducers over 2.25 MHz and concentrations over 5 mg/ml to the fluids, it was impossible to observe effective ultrasonic signals due to an excessive scattering of the pulses by the dispersed particles. Elastic moduli of the magnetorheological fluids were 5.44 GPa and 6.13 GPa with concentrations of 25 mg/ml and 50 mg/ml, respectively; these values were higher by 40% than the values of 4.04 GPa and 4.28 GPa of ferromagnetic fluids at the same concentrations. As for the effect of an external magnetic field on these dilute fluids, the ultrasonic signals were positioned in a very similar way, which was probably due to insufficient arrangement of the particles even though the reflection energy of the ultrasonic waves apparently increased.

The objective of this presentation is to introduce a recent development of a magnetostrictive grating technique using an optimal yoke to efficiently generate and measure SH (Shear-Horizontal) waves in a plate. Gratings are effective means to generate frequency-tuned waves, but the gap between magnetostrictive gratings inevitably obstructs magnetic flow. Because magnetic field is the main physical quantity to actuate and sense ultrasonic waves, the transducer performance is most significantly influenced by the magnetic field distribution in the strips. Thus, wave transduction efficiency can be substantially improved if better magnetic flow is formed in the strips. To improve the efficiency, the topology optimization method was used to determine an optimal yoke configuration. A series of experiments on an aluminum plate were conducted using a grating with and without the designed yoke; when the yoke was used, the signal outputs increased up to 60 %.

In this paper, a method and system to compensate vertical component of 3-dimensional magnetic field sensor using the earth's field was described. Output of magnetic field sensor have a output offset that is generated setting angle error of magnetic sensor and gain error. Thus, to using the magnetic field sensor, it must be compensated. The compensation of magnetic field sensor is required at shield space. However, using the earth's field, output offset of the sensor can be simply compensated. And, we designed system for compensation of the sensor. The proposed method and system are verified usefulness through experimental.
