The tubes in heat exchanger are typically made of copper alloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium alloy material. Type-439 ferritic stainless steel is ferromagnetic material, and furnish higher heat transfer rates than austenitic stainless steels and higher resistance to corrosion-induced flaws. Ferritic stainless steel can be found in low-pressure(LP) feedwater heaters and moisture separator reheaters(MSRs) in turbine system. LP feedwater heaters generally utilize thin wall Type-439 stainless steel tubing, whereas MSRs typically employ a heavier wall tubing with integral fins. Service-induced damage can occur on the O.D(outside diameter) surface of Type-439 ferritic stainless steel tubing which is employed for MSRs tubing, and the most typical damage mechanism is vibration-induced tube-to-TSP(tube support plate) wear and fatigue cracking. The wear has been reported that occurs mainly on the OD surface. Accordingly, in this study, we have evaluated the flaw sizing capability of magnetic saturation eddy current technique using magnetic saturation probe and flawed specimen.
A new PIM in-process joining technique has been developed for more complicated and functional PIM components by application of the exuded wax from the green compacts during solvent debinding step. At first, various stainless steels and iron compacts with rectangular shape were combined, and the joining behaviors and properties were investigated by shear and tensile test, and microscopic observation. Subsequently, perfect joined three pieces of thin and hollow compacts were obtained for the combination of same and different stainless steels, and it was difficult to join the iron and stainless steel compacts in hydrogen atmosphere because of the different starting temperature of shrinkage. However, pretty good joined iron and stainless steel compacts were obtained by consideration of particle size and vacuum atmosphere. Finally, for the combination of ferro-silicon and austenitic stainless steel compacts, high functionality (magnetic (1.60Tes1a) & non-magnetic) and perfect joint were obtained.

In this paper, we have investigated the characteristics of the magnetic abrasive using sludge on polishing of internal finishing of seamless stainless steel (STS304) tube applying magnetic abrasive polishing. Either white alumina (WA) or green carborundum (GC) grain was used to resin sludge at a low temperature, and the sludge of magnetic abrasive powder was synthesized and crushed into 200 meshes. Surface roughness was measured before and after polishing, and more than 40% of improvement of surface roughness was achieved when WA grain was used under a specific condition. Even though some degree of surface roughness due to deeper scratches still exist, but the result showed a prospective magnetic abrasive polishing using sludge with WA or GC grains.
The purpose of this study was to investigate further the mechanics of failure of magnets used for denture retention. Dyna magnets were retrived from denture that had failed after 34 months of clinical use. The magnets were observed and sectioned in order to analyse with high resolution scanning electron microscope. From this study, corrosion behaviors of used magnetic attachment were analysed. The results were as follows ; 1. In Nd-Fe-B based magnetic materials, the erosion-corrosion was started at ununiformed part of stainless steel cover. 2. Corrosion was initiated at weared stainless steel surface and then magnetic materials were spalled by corrosive solution. 3. Spatting was occurred in Nd-Fe-B magnet materials due to corrosion products and then corrosion rate was increased drastically. 4. Corrosion started from ununiformed stainless steel surface as well as welded zone. In conclusion, the failure of magnets may occur by either breakdown of the welding or breakdown of the encapsulating material. So, it is considered that the corrosion problem of dental magnetic materials could be solved to some extent with surface treatment of dental magnetic materials.
The phase separation in ferrite phase of duplex stainless steel is the primary cause of thermal aging embrittlement of the LWR primary pressure boundary components. In this study the phase separation of simulated duplex stainless steel was detected by Mossbauer spectroscopy and magnetic property analysis by VSM(Vibrating Specimen Magnetometer). The simulated duplex stainless steels, Fe-Cr binary, Fe-Cr-Ni ternary, and Fe-Cr-Ni-Si quarternary allots, were aged at 370 and 40$0^{\circ}C$ up to 5,340 hours. It was observed from Mossbauer spectra analysis that internal magnetic field increases with aging time and from VSM that the specific saturation magnetization and Curie temperature increase with aging time. These result are indicative that phase separation into Fe-rich region and Cr-rich region is caused by thermal aging in the temperature range of 370~40$0^{\circ}C$ In cases of specimens containing Ni, the increase of specific saturation magnetization is much higher. This implies that Ni seems to promote Fe-Cr interdiffusion, which accelerates the phase separation into Fe-rich $\alpha$ phase and Cr-rich $\alpha$' phase.
Objectives : Manufacturing and manipulation techniques of acupuncture can be interpreted as an induced electromagnetic viewpoint, as proposed in previous study. Considering from this point of view, the magnetization of needles should be essential to enhance the electromagnetic effects during the behavior of the acupuncture needling. Methods : The current disposable needles are made of non-magnetic stainless steels, so ferromagnetic materials were searched as suitable substitutes. Meanwhile, at the practical view, stainless steels are very available for the several superior properties like as corrosion resistance, strength, etc., magnetic stainless steels were first investigated. Some types of them still preserved the ferromagnetic properties of iron, so trial needles were made with them. And then magnetization of them were followed. Results : Among the hundreds types of stainless steels, martensitic or ferritic ones are ferromagnetic. The needles made with these ferromagnetic wires were magnetized, and polarized by magnetizer, and their magnetic properties were improved. Moreover, in addition to the superiority of the magnetism, the electrical and thermal conductivities of them were even better than those of the current austenitic stainless steels. Conclusions : Through the developmental study based on the electromagnetic viewpoint, the magnetized and polarized acupuncture needles were completed. This means that these needles having improved magnetism can be used to improve the electromagnetic needling effects, and moreover, their superiorities in the electrical and thermal conductivities can also give another benefits in treatments of electrical or warm needling.

In this paper deals with behavior of the magnetic abrasive using sludge on polishing characteristics in a new internal finishing of seamless stainless steel tube applying magnetic abrasive polishing. The magnetic abrasive using sludge-abrasive grain WA and GC used to resin bond fabricated low temperature. And sludge of magnetic abrasive powder fabricated that sludge was crused into 200 mesh. The previous research have made an experiment in the static state the movement of magnetic abrasive grain is nevertheless in the dynamic state. In this paper, We could have investigated into the changes of the movement of magnetic abrasive grain. In reference to this result, we could have made the experiment which is set under the condition of the magnetic flux density, polishing velocity according to the form of magnetic brush.
Characteristics of Al-based composites with waste stainless steel short fiber, fabricated by magnetic pulsed compaction and sintering were investigated. The compacts prepared by magnetic pulsed compaction showed high relative density and homogeneous microstructure compared with that by conventional press compaction. The relative density of sintered composites at $430^{\circ}C$ for 1 h exhibited the same value with compacts and decreased with increase in STS short fiber content. The reaction between Al and STS phase was confirmed by the microstructural analysis using EDS. The sintered composites, prepared by magnetic pulsed compaction, showed increased hardness value with increasing STS fiber content. Maximum yield strength of 100 MPa and tensile strength of 232 MPa were registered in the AI-based composite with 30 vol% STS short fiber.
Specimens of austenitic stainless steel were irradiated with 6 MeV Xe ions to two doses of 7 and 15 dpa at room temperature and 300 ℃ respectively. Then partial irradiated specimens were subsequently thermally annealed at 550 ℃. Irradiation-induced BCC-phase formation and magnetism were analyzed by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It has been shown that irradiation damage level, irradiation temperature and annealing temperature have significant effect on BCC-phase formation. This BCC-phase changes the magnetic behavior of austenitic stainless steel. The stress relief and compositional changes in matrix are the driving forces for BCC-phase formation in austenitic stainless steel during ion irradiation.
A portable RF HTS SQUID-based susceptometer was applied to the measurement of fatigue behavior for type 316L(N) stainless steel containing 0.04% to 0.15% nitrogen content. Strain-controlled low cycle fatigue (LCF) tests were conducted at RT and $600^{\circ}C$ in air an atmosphere, and the magnetic moments were measured after the fatigue test using HTS SQUID. The magnetic moment of an as-received sample is higher than that of a fatigued sample in all the temperature ranges irrespective of the nitrogen content. The fatigue life decreased with an increasing test temperature up to $500^{\circ}C$, but increased at $600^{\circ}C$. The change of the magnetic moments by LCF test is attributed to the stress induced micro defects.
