Interest is growing in the design and development of square wave driven BLDC permanent magnet motors suitable for industrial automation, and the development of position detection circuits and drivers. However, this motor is somewhat limited in its application despite the price and functional advantages due to the decrease in efficiency due to switching loss and vibration and noise. In the process of designing and assembling a BLDC motor, the magnetic pole angle is not uniform or the magnetic flux distribution is distorted due to problems in magnetic circuit design or product non-uniformity in the assembly process. Therefore, these things cause position detection deviation and deteriorate the motor characteristics. In addition, the sine wave driven BLDC system can operate stably only when the signal generated from the position sensor is accurately fed back to the driver. However, since the generated signal cannot perform stable position detection due to the occurrence of DC offset component due to magnetic flux density deviation or magnetization technology, which is an external influence, this study intends to study the proposed circuit that can remove the DC offset component.

We present a micro fluxgate magnetic sensor having solenoid coils and racetrack shaped magnetic core, which was designed to decrease the .operating power and magnetic flux leakage. Electroplated copper coils of $6\;{\mu}m$ thickness and the core of $3\;{\mu}m$ thickness were separated by benzocyclobutane (BCB) having a high insulation and good planarization characters. Permalloy $(Ni_{0.8}Fe_{0.2})$ as a magnetic core was also electroplated under 2000 gauss to induce the magnetic anisotropy. The core had the high DC effective permeability of $\~1,300$ and coercive field of $\~0.1$ Oe. The fabricated fluxgate sensor had the very small actual size of $3.0\times1.7\;mm^2$. The fluxgate sensor with a racetrack shaped core had the high sensitivity .of $\~350$ V/T at excitation condition of 3 $V_{P-P}$ and 2 MHz square wave. When two fluxgates were perpendicularly aligned in terrestrial field, their two-axis output signals were very useful to commercialize an electronic azimuth compass for the portable navigation system.
To observe the effect of excitation coil pitch on the micro fluxgate magnetic sensor, two sensors are fabricated using multi layer board process and the pitch distance of excitation coil are $260\;{\mu}m$ and $520\;{\mu}m$, respectively. The fluxgate sensor consists of five PCB stack layers including one layer of magnetic core and four layers of excitation and pick-up coils. The center layer as magnetic core is made of a Co-based amorphous magnetic ribbon with extremely high DC permeability of ${\sim}100,000$ and has a rectangular-ring shape to minimize the magnetic flux leakage. Four outer layers as excitation and pick-up coils have a planar solenoid structure and are made of copper foil. In case of the fluxgate sensor having the excitation coil pitch of $260\;{\mu}m$, excellent linear response over the range of $-100\;{\mu}T$ to $+100\;{\mu}T$ is obtained with sensitivity of 780 V/T at excitation sine wave of $3V_{p_p}$ and 360 kHz. The chip size of the fabricated sensing element is $7.3\;{\times}\;5.7\;mm^2$. The very low power consumption of ${\sim}8\;mW$ is measured. This magnetic sensor is very useful for various applications such as: portable navigation systems, telematics, VR game and so on.

A fluxgate magnetic sensor consists of a solenoid excitation coil, pick-up coil, and magnetic core. We presents the effect of magnetic core shape in a micromachined fluxgate sensor. To observe the performance of fluxgate sensor with magnetic core side width and gap, side width of 125 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 250 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and 500 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were designed in a rectangular-ring shaped core and the gaps of 0 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 50 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, and 100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were also fabricated in a racetrack shaped core. The solenoid coils and magnetic core were separated by benzocyclobutane(BCB) which had high insulation and good planarization characters. Copper coil patterns of 10 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ width and 6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thickness were electroplated on Ti(300 $\AA$) / Cu(1500 $\AA$) seed layers. 3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ thick N $i_{0.8}$F $e_{0.2.}$(permalloy) film for the magnetic core was also electroplated under 2000 gauss to induce the magnetic anisotropy. The magnetic core had the high DC effective permeability of ∼1,300 and coercive field of ∼0.1 Oe. Because the magnetic cores of 500 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ side width and 0 gap had a low magnetic flux leakage, high sensitivity of ∼350 V/T were measured at excitation condition of 3 $V_{P-P}$ and 2 MHz square wave. The power consumption of ∼14 ㎽ was measured. The fabricated fluxgate sensor had the very small actual size of 3.0${\times}$1.7 $\textrm{mm}^2$. When two fluxgates were perpendicularly aligned in terrestrial field, their two-axis output signals were very useful to commercialize an electronic azimuth compass for the portable navigation system.m.m.m.

A current transformer (CT) is a type of sensor that consists of a combination of electric and magnetic circuits, and it measures large ac currents. When a large amount of current flows into the primary winding, the alternating magnetic flux in the iron core induces an electromotive force in the secondary winding. The characteristics of a CT are determined by the iron core design because the iron core is saturated above a certain magnetic flux density. In particular, when a large current, such as a current surge, is input into a CT, the iron core becomes saturated and the induced electromotive force in the secondary winding fluctuates severely. Under these conditions, the CT no longer functions as a sensor. In this study, the characteristics of the secondary winding were investigated using the time-difference finite element method when a current surge was provided as an input. The CT was modeled as a two-dimensional analysis object using constraints, and the saturation characteristics of the iron core were evaluated using the Newton-Rhapson method. The results of the calculation were compared with the experimental data. The results of this study will prove useful in the designs of the iron core and the windings of CTs.
Magnetocardiography is a very weak biomagnetic field generated from the heart. Since the magnitude of the biomagnetic field is in the order of a few pico Tesla, it is measured with a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID). SQUID is a transducer converting magnetic flux to voltage, however, its range of linear conversion is very restricted. In order to overcome the narrow dynamic range. a flux locked loop is used to feedback the output field with opposite polarity to the input field so that the total Held becomes zero. This prevents the operating point of the SQUID from moving too far away from the null point thereby escape from the linear region. In this paper, an emulator for the SQUID sensor and feedback coil is proposed. Magnetic courting between the original field and the generated field by the feedback coil is emulated by electronic circuits. By using the emulator, FLL circuits are analyzed and optimized without SQUID sensors. The emulator may be used as a test signal for multi-channel gain calibration and system maintenance.
Leakage magnetic flux (LMF) is widely used for non-contact detection of cracks. The combination of optics and LMF offers advantages such as real time inspection, elimination of electrical noise, high spatial resolution, etc. This paper describes a new nondestructive evaluation method based on an original magneto-optical inspection system, which uses a magneto-optical sensor, LMF, and an improved magnetization method. The improved magnetization method has the following characteristics: high observation sensitivity, independence of the crack orientation, and precise transcription of the geometry of a complex crack. The use of vertical magnetization enables the visualization of the length and width of a crack. The inspection system provides the images of the crack, and shows a possibility for the computation of its depth.

This paper describes a MEMS-based micro-fluxgate magnetic sensing element using Ni$\_$0.8/Fe$\_$0.2/ film formed by electroplating. The micro-fluxgate magnetic sensor composed of a thin film magnetic core and micro-structured solenoids for the pick-up and the excitation coils, is developed by using MEMS technologies in order to take advantage of low-cost, small size and lower power consumption in the fabrication. A copper with 20um width and 3um thickness is electroplated on Cr(300${\AA}$)/Au(1500${\AA}$) films for the pick-up(42turn) and the excitation(24turn) coils. In order to improve the sensitivity of the sensing element, we designed the magnetic core into a rectangular-ring shape to reduce the magnetic flux leakage. An electroplated permalloy film with the thickness of 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ is obtained under 2000Gauss to induce magnetic anisotropy. The magnetic core has the high DC effective permeability of ∼1,100 and coercive field of -0.1Oe. The fabricated sensing element using rectangular-ring shaped magnetic film has the sensitivity of about 150V/T at the excitation frequency of 2MHz and the excitation voltage of 4.4Vp-p. The power consumption is estimated to be 50mW.

This paper describes the fabrication and characteristics of a Si Hall sensor fabricated on a SOI (Si-on-insulator) structure. The SOI structure was formed by SDB(Si-wafer direct bonding) technology and the insulator of the SOI structure was used as the dielectrical isolation layer of a Hall sensor. The Hall voltage and sensitivity of the implemented SDB SOI Hall sensors showed good linearity with respect to the applied magnetic flux density and supplied current. The product sensitivity of the SDB SOI Hall sensor was average 600V/A.T and its value has been increased up to 3 times compared to that of bulk Si with buried layer of 10.mu.m. Moreover, this sensor can be used at high-temperature, high-radiation and in corrosive environments.
