  • Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) surveillance applications usually employed magnetometer for recognizing the ferrous objects. Novel magnetic sensing model which includes azimuth parameter is suggested to understand the anisotropic characteristic of magnetic field through numerous outdoor experiments.

  • The discoveries of antiferromagnetic coupling in Fe/Cr multilayers by Grunberg, the Giant Magneto Resistance by Fert and Grunberg and a large tunneling magnetoresistance at room temperature by Moodera have triggered enormous research on magnetic thin films and magnetoelectronic devices. Large opportunities are especially opened by the spin dependent tunneling resistance, where a strong dependence of the tunneling current on an external magnetic field can be found. We will briefly address important basic properties of these junctions like thermal, magnetic and dielectric stability and discuss scaling issues down to junction sizes below 0.01 $\mu\textrm{m}$$^2$with respect to single domain behavior, switching properties and edge coupling effects. The second part will give an overview on applications beyond the use of the tunneling elements as storage cells in MRAMs. This concerns mainly field programmable logic circuits, where we demonstrate the clocked operation of a programmed AND gate. The second 'unconventional' feature is the use as sensing elements in DNA or protein biochips, where molecules marked magnetically with commercial beads can be detected via the dipole stray field in a highly sensitive and relatively simple way.

펄스파 자왜 센서를 이용한 고정밀 액위 센서 시스템의 실현에 관한 연구 (Implementation of High Accurate Level Sensor System using Pulse Wave Type Magnetostriction Sensor)

  • In this paper, we introduce the implementation of high accurate level sensor system using the pulse wave type magnetostriction sensor. When a current pulse flows along the waveguide, the magnetic field also propagates towards the end of waveguide. When this magnetic field just passes the position of the magnet for level detection, the resultant magnetic field by these two magnetic fields makes a torsional reflected signal. This is used to calculate the time difference between a interrogation pulse wave and this torsional reflected signal. The key elements and characteristics were investigated to implement level sensor system based on this principle. We introduce a method to calculate the speed of ultrasonic reflected signal and how to make a model of sensing coil. In particular, we experiment with the characteristics of the torsional reflected signal according to the changes of the interrogation voltage and displacement. To make high accurate level sensor system, two methods were compared. One is to use the comparator and time counter, the other is STFT(Short Time FFT) which is capable of the time-frequency analysis.

PSC 내부 텐던의 긴장력 관리를 위한 저전압 EM 센싱 기법 (Low-Voltage EM(Elasto-Magnetic) Sensing Technique for Tensile Force Management of PSC(Prestressed Concrete) Internal Tendon)

  • 본 논문에서는 안정적인 전력공급이 어려운 실제 현장에 적용하기 위해서 PSC 내부 텐던의 긴장력 관리를 위한 저전압 EM센싱기법을 검증하였다. 지난 국내외 PSC 구조물 사고 사례를 볼 수 있듯이, 공용간 구조적 안정성을 확보하기 위해서는 PS텐던의 긴장력 관리가 매우 중요함을 알 수 있었다. 이에 본 논문에서는 EM센서를 통해 탄성-자기이론을 기반한 강자성체의 자기변형과 응력의 관계를 이용하여 전압 크기에 따른 긴장력에 대한 자기이력곡선을 계측하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 이중 원통코일형태의 EM센서를 제작하고 유압식 인장기를 이용한 PS텐던 인장 실험 장비를 구성하였다. 실험은 단계적으로 전압을 감소시켜 긴장력 크기에 따른 자기이력곡선의 변화를 계측하면서 최대/최소 전압값에 대한 계측결과에 따른 투자율의 변화와 긴장력의 관계를 비교 분석하였다. 그 결과, 전압이 감소하여 자기장의 크기가 작아짐에 따라 추정식에 대한 상수는 상이하지만 유사한 형태의 자기이력곡선 투자율의 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 본 연구에서는 저전압 상태에서 EM센싱기법을 이용한 PSC 내부 텐던에 대한 긴장력 관리가 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

  • In order to prevent the belt from being damaged by metal pieces, we developed multicoil-type metal detection system. This detects the presence of belt clips and position of metal pieces in ores being transported on conveyor belt. In this research, our coil sensor of multicoil-type metal detection system is divided into two parts, exciting part (transmitter coil) and sensing part composed of two receiver coils. Each receiver coil has several coils in the direction of belt width. Multicoil-type metal detection system is operated by supplying a transmitter coil with electric power resources to generate magnetic field, and then the change of magnetic flux resulted from a metal piece on the conveyor be a is induced into sensing coils. We can prevent detector from failing to catch metal pieces due to high threshold level produced by steel belt clips and male the sensitivity of belt-width direction uniform by using multicoil-type metal detection system. Besides, this developed system can recognize precise position and size of metal piece. The experiments shows that our multicoil-type metal detection system has better performances than the conventional metal piece detector.

Observation of the Earth's Magnetic field from KOMPSAT-1

  • The Earth's total magnetic field was extracted from on board TAM (Three Axis Magnetometer) observations of KOMPSAT-1 satellite between June 19th and 21st, 2000. In the pre-processing, the TAM's telemetry data were transformed from ECI (Earth Centered Inertial frame) to ECEF (Earth Centered Earth Fixed frame) and then to spherical coordination, and self-induced magnetic field by satellite bus itself were removed by using an on-orbit magnetometer data correction method. The 2-D wavenumber correlation filtering and quadrant-swapping method were applied to the pre-processed data in order to eliminate dynamic components and track-line noise, respectively. Then, the spherical harmonic coefficients are calculated from KOMPSAT-1 data. To test the validity of the TAM's geomagnetic field, Danish/NASA/French ${\phi}$rsted satellite's magnetic model and IGRF2000 model were used for statistical comparison. The correlation coefficient between ${\phi}$rsted and TAM is 0.97 and IGRF and TAM is 0.96. It was found that the data from on board magnetometer observations for attitude control of Earth-observing satellites can be used to determinate the Earth's total magnetic field and that they can be efficiently used to upgrade the global geomagnetic field coefficients, such as IGRF by providing new information at various altitudes with better temporal and spatial coverage.

Dynamic Magneto-mechanical Behavior of an Iron-nickel-based Ferromagnetic Alloy with Constant Elasticity

  • The dynamic magneto-mechanical behaviors in a type of iron-nickel-based ferromagnetic alloy with constant elasticity were investigated as a function of both the DC bias magnetic field ($H_{dc}$) and the frequency. The rectangular plate-like samples were excited to vibrate at a half-wavelength, longitudinal resonance by an AC magnetic field superimposed with various $H_{dc}$. The experimental results found that the strain coefficient at resonance reached 819.34 nm/A and the effective mechanical quality factor ($Q_m$) was greater than 2000. The ratio of the maximum variation of the Young's modulus over $H_{dc}$ to the value of the Young's modulus at a zero bias field was only ${\sim}0.83%o$ because of the so-called constant elasticity. The resonant strain coefficients and $Q_m$ are strongly dependent on $H_{dc}$, which indicates a promising potential for use in DC and quasistatic magnetic field sensing.

Projectile's Velocity Effect for Voltage Induced at Sensing Coil for Applying to Air Bursting Munition

  • We designed a model composed of a ring type magnet, a yoke, and a sensing coil embedded in a projectile for simulating the muzzle velocity. The muzzle velocity was obtained from the master curve for the induced voltage at sensing coil and the velocity as the projectile pass through the magnetic field. The induced voltage and the projectile's velocity are fitted by the $2^{nd}$ order polynomial. The skin effect difference between projectiles which consist of aluminum-aluminum and aluminum-steel was small. The projectile will surely be burst at the pre-determined target area using the flight time and the projectile muzzle velocity calculated from the voltage induced at the sensing coil on the projectile.

  • The purpose of this study is a potentiality examination of an infrared camera system for the 3D navigator which can be used in the field of neurosurgery. Nowadays, CAS(computer aided surgery) technique using 3D navigator is rapidly spread into the neurosurgeric operation such as brain and spine surgery. Several techniques which can detect 3D position of a probe have been proposed. These include mechnical arm, magnetic field, optical and ultrasonic sensing methods. In this study, we decided that using optical sensing method and tested a conventional CCD camera with a infrared filter and LEDs. Pulnix TM-300 camra has sufficient spectral response in the range of near infrared. Acquired image of infrared LEDs also sufficient quality.

  • 우선 센서 네트워크 기술이 환경 감시나 재난 감시와 같은 다양한 용용 분야에 적용되면서 지중 환경에서의 무선통신에 대한 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 특히, 지중에서는 기존의 전자기파를 이용한 우선 통신 방식이 비효율이기 때문에 그 대안으로서 자기장을 이용한 지중 통신 기술이 제시되었고, 최근 들어 자기장 통신 기술이 국내 KS 규격으로 제정되었다. 본 논문에서는 KS 규격으로 제정된 자기장 통신 매체 접근 제어(Media Access Control) 프로토콜의 성능을 분석 및 시뮬레이션 방법을 통해서 분석한다.
