  • A townscape has both aspects of seeing and living. However, the main streams of townscape making have been mostly focused on the former perspective so far. Such trends are apt to lack the realities of urban living. In this view, a prerequisite to complement the existing formalistic view with this realistic one is needed in order to accomplish the holistic characteristics of a townscape. Many city governments of Korea are currently trying to improve the quality of living quarters by providing diverse kinds of open spaces such as vest-pocket parks, pedestrian-friendly streets, and supporting the residents participatory village making. In this context, this paper will review the possibilities of the realistic approaches in townscape making by examining some current cases being tried in Korea cities. In conclusion some main issues to be solved in future can be listed as the conflict between general citizen′s view and the residents′ view", the conflict between social aspects and aesthetical aspects" and the conflict between the tradition and the vernacular reality in design".

  • Hahoebyeolsingut Talnori, which is under permanent performance, has lost its relevance to folklore and rituals of the villagers and has secured the possibility of change depending on the actor's choice. This article seeks to expand the current stuck performance of Hahoe mask play, which has great significance as a play and play for the audience. To this end, We studied the possibility of expanding the performance of Hahoe Talnori by trans-identity of the Choragi. Chorangi character derides yangban, seonbi and monk, who are representatives of the establishment. Those who have a consciousness of potential transformation, those who passively represent the masses, and those who are tacitly authorized by the audience to ridicule the ruling class. The audience feels exhilarated by the super-cool, but at the same time reduces the limits. We transformed Chorangi who is clever but cannot overcome the limits of his status, into a character with a sense of transformation by applying the method of turnning identity and changing identity of the theory of trans-identity. And I applied the method of expansion of the media conversion storytelling theory to create a new Chorangi Madang that conforms to the audience's needs and the spirit of the times. In addition to the performance of Yangban Seonbi Madang(Act of Nobleman and Scholar) which ends with an ambiguous reconciliation, we wanted to complete it in a way that even today's audiences could accept by applying the function of the Hahoebyeolsingut Talnori ambassador and the principle of implementation. And We writed it in a script. This article is meant to be an experimental study that attempted to transform traditional performing arts in the context of new creation of tradition. Preservation and transmission of traditional performing arts are important, but it is necessary to move forward according to the trend and spirit of the times.

  • This paper presents computer graphics applying the traditional Korean house(Hanok) style interior to unit-care space of Welfare Facility and proposes the possibility as interior design and construction materials. In this paper, the proposed computer graphic-based model is a single-story building that provides convenient traffic between rooms. Computer graphic-based model is presented by Auto CAD, 3D program (Sketch-UP v.8), rendering program (Podium v.2) based on the traditional Korean house and related work of unit-care welfare facility. Computer graphic-based model that combined unit-care and the traditional Korean house has the following characteristics. In each room of living space, wallpaper and flooring Korean paper(Hnaji) is considered and windows, door, furniture of traditional pattern were placed. The living room(Daechung) that is representative of the traditional Korean house and the corridor (toenmaru) are the elements to save the image of the traditional Korean house as much as possible. • An architecture is a result from representation of design knowledge by architect's creative thinking, and operated only in his internal organization system. Design knowledge based upon the experience that they have achieved in the past as well as the informations they have accumulated over the time. In this point of view, the Schema that formed by problems settlement and process repetitions for the best conclusion, not only play an important part in the designer's thinking system about a specific problem but also appeared by distinctive features. This research looks to achieve a new design method by finding out how architects express traditionality in the contemporary house through schema. This research analyze contemporary house built in seoul of 1990's. The result are as followings. First, Schema is a 'frame' that already exist in the architect's thinking, will make a good guide about express the traditionality. Second, We found out several distinctive characters in the form and the space. The form is divided in five types. It is an condensed form of roof image, the metamorphosis of form grammar, the change of part details, the representation of design principle and the directly expression. Lastly, In the space, it is the borrow of the connection method of inside and external space, the three parts composition of the space, the adaptation of 'Madang' and the Independent composition of the space due to 'Chae'

And it has constructed continuously for two centuries by many owners in the different generations, It needs a special research method ; which are consist of a) comprehension of background information from documents and oral instructed materials, b) pursuit of design process through the building survey, and c) theoretical interpretation about 'collectivism'. From the results of this research, it is revealed that the architectural purpose of this house was constructing 'a great manor'. At first phase, it had been a single ordinary house, at second, it had expanded to a complex including many housing clusters, and finally became to expand its dwelling territory into whole village. Its expansion was progressed by the four collecting phases of which were building, building cluster, group of clusters, and topological setting. Main design elements operated in each of collecting phases ; they were partial element of , exterior spaces of , a linear building of , and a pavilion of .
