  • The reconfigurability of FPGA devices allows designers to evaluate, test and validate a new control algorithm; a new component or prototypes without damaged the real system with the so-called hardware co-simulation. The present paper uses the Xilinx System Generator (XSG) environment to establish and validate a new nonlinear estimator for the rotor time constant inverse that will be exploited to improve the indirect rotor field control of induction motor.

  • This paper includes new protection concepts and practices to avoid mechanical damage of three-phase transformer by asynchronous operation of synchronous generator. this failure is often caused just after synchronous generator was connected to the grid because of a malfunction of the controller or misconnections of the synchronous devices. The results of the studies on the analyzing the phenomenon of asynchronous operation experienced in Korea and rapidly detecting asynchronous state are descrived.

  • Rotating annular disks are widely used in data storage devices such as CDs, DVDs(digital versatile disks), and HDs(hard disks) as well as in traditional industrial machines like sawing machines, turbines, brake disks. The exact stress distribution of rotating polar orthotropic disk is derived by solving directly the equilibrium equation instead of using stress function. Stress distributions for typical GFRP and CFRP disks are presented in addition to polycarbonate disk. The results show that the application of CFRP to rotating disk can increase the maximum allowable rotating speed but this may not be applicable to GFRP disk.

  • The last decade has seen a rapid growth in the use of mobile devices all over the world. With an increasing use of mobile devices, mobile applications are becoming more diverse and complex, demanding more computational resources. However, mobile devices are typically resource-limited (i.e., a slower-speed CPU, a smaller memory) due to a variety of reasons. Mobile users will be capable of running applications with heavy computation if they can offload some of their computations to other places, such as a desktop or server machines. However, mobile users are typically subject to dynamically changing network environments, particularly, due to user mobility. This makes it hard to choose good offloading decisions in mobile environments. In general, users' mobility can provide some hints for upcoming changes to network environments. Motivated by this, we propose a mobility model of each individual user taking advantage of the regularity of his/her mobility pattern, and develop an offloading decision-making technique based on the mobility model. We evaluate our technique through trace-based simulation with real log data traces from 14 Android users. Our evaluation results show that the proposed technique can help boost the performance of mobile devices in terms of response time and energy consumption, when users are highly mobile.

  • This paper discusses an academic study on electronic games and their incredibly vast and rapid growth over the years. It specifically addresses the evolution of electronic games from the 1960s to today, the ripple effects of electronic games, and the development of electronic game platforms. In terms of scope, the study first describes the ripple effects of the emergence of electronic games in chronological order and from the "immersion" and "convergence" perspectives, and then explores the evolution of electronic game platforms such as arcade machines, video consoles, personal computers, and mobile game devices.

  • Is this paper the selection of a set of process plans is considered for a flexible manufacturing systems. This problem arises in the metal working industry when numerical controlled(N/C) machines are used to manufacture parts. In this paper a new concept to reduce the size of problem is proposed. A corresponding Integer programming model is formulated. The model formulated is to minimize corresponding manufacturing cost and minimize the number of tools and auxiliary devices such as fixtures, grippers, and feeders.

  • Processsive ubiquitous networks have impressed us with alternative features, divesity or security. When the diversity from small devices to large machines is in normal states, ubiquitous networks are fundamental and useful. We have developed a mobile processor dedicated to multimedia cryptography. We have focus on the multimedia cryptography by the dedicated processor.

  • Electro-chemo-mechanical devices or artificial muscles based on conducting polymers (CP) are presented as bilayers, CP/adhesive polymer, or as triple layers, CP/adhesive polymer/CP. Those soft and wet materials, working in aqueous solutions of a salt, mimic the composition of most organs from animals. Under electrochemical control, so working as new electrical machines, they produce continuous, reverse and elegant bending movements, mimicking those produce by animal muscles. By means of the current a perfect controls of the movement rate is attained giving soft and continuous movements. Muscles able to sense the chemical and mechanical conditions of work or muscle having tactile sense, as will be presented here, are being developed. All of them are founded on the non-stoichiometric nature of the soft and wet materials.

  • The performance of direct torque controlled (DTC) interior permanent magnet (IPM) machines is poor at low speeds due to a few reasons, namely limited accuracy of stator voltage acquisition and the presence of offset and drift components in the acquired signals. Due to factors such as forward voltage drop across switching devices in the three phase inverter and dead-time of the devices, the voltage across the machine terminals differ from the reference voltage vector used to estimate stator flux and electromagnetic torque. This can lead to instability of the IPM drive during low speed operation. Compensation schemes for forward voltage drops and dead-time are proposed and implemented in real-time control, resulting in improved performance of the space vector modulated DTC IPM drive, especially at low speeds. No additional hardware is required for these compensators.
