This paper is concerned with the comparative numerical and experimental study on the natural behavior and the motion responses of a 1/75 moored scale model of a 2.5 MW spar-type floating offshore wind turbine subject to 1-D regular wave. Heave, pitch and surge motions and the mooring tensions are investigated and compared by numerical and experimental methods. The upper part of wind turbine which is composed of three rotor blades, hub and nacelle is modeled as a lumped mass and three mooring lines are pre-tensioned by means of linear springs. The numerical simulations are carried out by a coupled FEM-cable dynamics code, while the experiments are performed in a wave tank equipped with the specially-designed vision and data acquisition system. Using the both methods, the natural behavior and the motion responses in RAOs are compared and parametrically investigated to the fairlead position, the spring constant and the location of mass center of platform. It is confirmed, from the comparison, that both methods show a good agreement for all the test cases. And, it is observed that the mooring tension is influenced by all three parameters but the platform motion is dominated by the location of mass center. In addition, from the sensitivity analysis of RAOs, the coupling characteristic of platform motions and the sensitivities to the mooring parameters are investigated.

As resent trends in structural construction have been to build taller and larger structures than any time in the past, they have had high flexibility and low damping that can cause large vibration response under severe environmental loading such as earthquakes, winds, and mechanical excitations. The damper with mass and spring is one approach to safeguarding the structure against excessive vibrations. In this paper, the lumped electrical circuit approach of mass/spring system is used to model the mechanical aspects according to the frequency. Therefore, the mass/spring system can be dealt with here and linked with the equivalent circuit of electric linear oscillatory actuator(LOA). Analysis models are two types of vibration control system, active mass damper(AMD) and hybrid mass damper(HMD). AMD consists of the moving coil LOA with mass only The LOA of HMD with mass and spring is composed of the fixed coil and the movable permanent magnet(PM) field part. The PM field part composed magnet modules and iron coke, is the damper marts itself. We Present the motional resistance and reactance of mass/spring system and the system impedance of AMD and HMD according to the frequency.

A dynamic model of reducer for generating facility of electric pourer having bevel gear pair and planetary gear train is developed by lumped method. The model accounts for the shaft and bearing flexibilities, gyroscopic effects and the force couplings among the transverse and torsion motions due to gearing. Vibration/noise analysis as well as strength of bevel gear pair and planetary gear train are considered. Exciting forces of high reducer for generating facility of electric power areconsidered as the mass unbalance of the rotors, misalignment and a function of gear transmission error. A Campbell diagram, in which the excitation sources caused by the mass unbalance of the rotors, misalignment and the transmitted errors of the gearing are considered, shows that, at the operating speed, there are not critical speed.

An analytical study about dynamic behavior of center pivot rocker arm type valve train system equipped with roller of diesel engine is developed. At first, a mathematical model for the dynamic analysis has been set up using the lumped parameter method. In that model, valve spring is divided as some mass elemehts so as to simulate spring surging, Then, how the design parameters, such as valve mass, rocker arm inertia, valve spring stiffness, and initial load on valve spring, affect valve dynamic behavior especially in the valve close area is scrutinized.
A dynamic model of pump having one step gearbox and two step gearbox is developed by the lumped parameter method. The model accounts for shafts, ball bearings and journal bearings flexibilities, gyroscopic effects and the force couplings among the transverse and torsion motions due to gearing. Excitation forces of pump having one step gearbox and two step gearbox are considered as the mass unbalance of the rotors and gear transmission error which comes from the modified tooth surface. A Campbell diagram, in which the excitation sources caused by the mass unbalance of the rotors and the transmitted errors of the gearing are considered, shows that there are no critical speeds at the operating speeds. One step and two step gearboxes are manufactured and are estimated for vibration/noise, lubrication and performance.

A frontal offset impact model Oat can simulate the 40% offset frontal impact into deformable barrier regulated in EU Directive 96/79 EC has been developed. Engine rotation effects are also considered in the model. Distributed 11 masses and characteristics of 23 nonlinear springs comprising the model are determined based on both the stick-model analysis under the general specification of car and the dynamic characteristics of car structure. It is demonstrated that simulated acceleration-time curve for passenger part is in good agreement with test data obtained by NHTSA.

The objective of this study is to understand the dynamic characterictics of OHV type valve trains and to design and optimal cam profile which will improve engine performance. A numerical model for valve train dynamics is presented, which aims at both accuracy and computational efficiency. The lumped mass model and distributed parameter model were used to describe the valve train dynamics. Nonlinear characterictics in the valve spring behavior were included in the model. Comprehensive experiments were carried out concerning the valve train dynamics, and the model was tuned based on the test results. The dynamic model was used in designing an optimal cam profile. Because the objective function has many local minima, a conventional local optimizer cannot be used to find an optimal solution. A modified adaptive random search method is successfully employed to solve the problem. Cam lobe area could be increased up to 7.3% without any penalties in kinematic and dynamic behaviors of the valve train.

This paper presents the procedure and the results of modal identification testing of a seismic monitoring system central processing unit cabinet for a nuclear power plant. This paper also provides a model updating for making effective analytical modeling of cabinet-type electrical equipment by comparing the test results with the analysis results. From the test results and their interpretation, modal properties (modal frequency, mode shape, and modal damping) of the specimen were satisfactorily identified. However, the analysis results may need to study further to find the effective and presentative model for the cabinet-type electrical equipment. This paper just presents the first stage of the research project "Development of dynamic behavior analysis technique of dynamic structure system" which is trying to build the lumped mass beam stick model even their results do not agree well with the test results.

The nonlinear vibration of the CRT shadow mask is analyzed in consideration of the V-shaped tension distribution and the effect of wire impact damping. The reduced order FEM model of the shadow mask is obtained from dynamic condensation for the mass and stiffness matrices. Damping wire is modeled using the lumped parameter method to effectively describe its contact interactions with the shadow mask. The nonlinear contact-impact model is composed of spring and damper elements, of which parameters are determined from the Hertzian contact theory and the restitution coefficient, respectively. The analysis model of the shadow mask with damping wires is experimentally verified through impact tests of shadow masks performed in a vacuum chamber. Using the validated analysis model of the shadow mask with damping wires, the‘design of experiments’technique is applied to search fur the optimal damping wire configuration so that the vibration attenuation of the shadow mask is maximized.
The floor response spectrum (FRS) is used to evaluate the seismic demand of equipment installed in nuclear power plants. In the conventional design practice of NPP structure, the FRS is simplified using the lumped-mass stick model (LMSM), assuming the floor slab as a rigid diaphragm. In the present study, to study the variation of seismic response in a floor, the FRSs at different locations were generated by 3-D finite element model, and the response was compared to that of the rigid diaphragm model. The result showed that the FRS significantly varied due to the large opening in a floor, which was not captured by the rigid diaphragm model. Based on the result, seismic fragility analysis was performed for the anchorage of a heat exchanger, to investigate the effect of location-dependent FRS disparity on the high confidence low probability of failure (HCLPF).
