A Robotic Medical Palpation using Contact Pressure Distribution (접촉 압력 분포를 이용한 로봇 의료 촉진)

  • In this paper we present a novel robotic palpation method for the lump shape estimation using contact pressure distribution. Many previous researches about the robotic palpation have used a stiffness map, which is not suitable to obtain geometrical information of a lump. As a result, they require a large data set and long palpation time to estimate the lump shape. Instead of using the stiffness map, the proposed palpation method uses the difference between the normal force direction and the surface normal to detect the lump boundary and estimate its normal. The palpation trajectory is generated by the normal of the lump boundary to track the lump boundary in real-time. The proposed approach requires small data set and short palpation time for the lump shape estimation since the shape can be directly estimated from the optimally generated palpation trajectory. An experiment result shows that our method can find the lump shape accurately in real-time with small data and short time.

Risk Assessment for the Converted Lump-sum Turnkey Project (전환 정액일괄도급 계약방식 프로젝트의 리스크 분석)

  • Due to the recent uncertainty of market situations such as the escalation of petroleum prices, increased production capacities of plants, limitations of the available EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contractors, and the increase of raw material prices, EPC contractors have had a tendency to include a higher reserve contingency in the lump-sum turnkey contract price. In order to overcome the changes in the market, the plant project construction industry has started to apply the converted lump-sum turnkey contract in plant construction market. This study was focused to find the associated risks and to analyse the identified risks on recent trend of application of the new contract type, which is the converted lump-sum turnkey contract. It was recognized from the analysis that quality and cost have more high priority risks than other project objectives. This paper also suggests the mitigation plan for identified risks to achieve project objectives appropriate to the converted lump-sum turnkey project from the viewpoint of an EPC contractor keeping transparency with owner.

  • 전통적으로 주요 EPC(설계, 구매, 시공) 공사는 최초의 엔지니어링 작업(FEED : Front End Engineering Design)을 한 후, 경쟁입찰을 하여 총액계약(Lamp Sum)으로 공사를 수행했다. 최근에 EPC시공자의 위험부담을 줄이는 한편, 발주자는 경쟁적인 시공자를 확보할 수 있는 기회를 확대하면서 협상기간을 단축하교 조기착공을 위해, Lump Sum 가격을 늦게 결정하는 방법을 고려한다. CLST(Converted Lump Sum Turnkey)계약방식은 최초의 엔지니어링 작업을 한 후 경쟁입찰을 통해 1차 계약을 맺고(설계 및 특별 자재 공급에 대한) 공사를 수행하다 설계가 충분히 진행되고 핵심자재에 대한 견적이 입수되어 발주 가능한 시점 및 하도급사를 선정할 준비가 된 시점에서 1차 계약을 변경해 2차 계약을 맺는다. 2차 계약 시 1차 시 맺은 계약조건(직접공사비, 일반관리비 및 이윤, 최대한도 금액이 포함됨)을 기준으로 하되, 발주자가 Open Book 형식으로 공사비를 평가하고 재협상하여 Lump Sum 금액으로 전환해 합의한다. 이후 Lump Sum Tumkey 계약과 동일한 형식으로 공사를 수행한다.

  • In this research a medical palpation guidance system for minimally invasive surgery (MIS) is proposed. Palpation is a useful tool for identifying a size and location of a lump during a surgery. However, conventional manual palpation is only available in open surgery, so there has been several researches about palpation assistant or guidance system for MIS. The previously developed systems are based on a pressure based or stiffness based approach. These previous approaches have some limitations in increasing complexity of the systems and lack of geometric information about the lump which is more important information for the lump removal than the stiffness information. We propose a palpation guidance system using a novel approach using contact pressure distribution. Since our approach gives the geometry information of the lump as well as the existence information, the operator can easily notice the currently identified lump region and the optimal position for the next palpation. The experiment results show that our approach can offer the geometry information of the lump correctly.

A method for earthquake response analysis of tall flexible structure

  • The earthquake responses are studied for the tall flexible structures such as TV towers when the vertical eccentricities between the discrete nodes and the corresponding centroids of investigated lumps are considered. In practical analyses, the tall flexible structures can be made into a spatial-discrete system of some certain length of beam elements with different lengths and cross-sectional areas. These elements are used to construct the investigated lumps in this paper. The different cross-sectional areas and the different lengths of two adjacent elements lead to the appearance of vertical eccentricity between the discrete node and the centroid of investigated lump within the same investigated lump. Firstly, the governing equations are established for a typical investigated lump. Secondly, the calculating formulae of the forces and moments acting on the investigated lump are derived and provided. Finally the new dynamic equilibrium equations with modified mass matrix and assemblage of stiffness matrix have been derived for the stick MDOF model based on beam theory when the existing vertical eccentricities are considered. Numerical results demonstrate that these vertical eccentricities should be considered in order to obtain the accurate earthquake responses for the tall flexible structures.

A Study on Gasification Reaction and Strength of Foundry Coke and Lump Anthracite Coal (주물용 코우크스와 무연괴탄의 가스화 반응과 강도에 관한 연구)

  • The gasification reaction rates by $CO_2$ in $CO/CO_2/N_2$ of various compositions in the temperature range of $900-1200^{\circ}C$ were measured for foundry coke and anthracite lump. The data for the rates was analyzed with Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate equations for the gasification of carbonaceous specimens. The values of the apparent activation energies of the reactions obtained from these data were ranged to be 47-99 and 73-128Kcal/mol respectively for foundry coke and for anthracite lump. The major contribution to decrease in tensile strength was shown to be attributable to the enlarging of the macropores in the coke and that of crack in the anthracite lump. Under the same experiment of the gasification of foundry coke, the rate of form coke was increasing as the addition of $Fe_2O_3$ increases.

Employees' Preferences on Various Types of Matching Grants (매칭그랜트 기부방식에 대한 기부자 선호도)

  • Because consumers tend to have negative opinion about a company that neglects social issues like poverty or pollution while it focuses on its own profit, a lot of companies have invested their resources in Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR). CSR has merits of image improving and profit gaining, on the other hand, it has also many shortcomings. First, the cost of CSR may become a heavy financial burden. Specifically, CSR tends to be implemented by a company's unilateral backup, and then this may impose a heavy burden on the company. Second, one cannot expect effects of CSR in a short-term. Because of these shortcomings, the unilateral CSR has gone into alteration of the type of CSR since 1980's. Instead of unilaterality, Cause-Related Marketing(CRM) began to be used for mutual profits among company, consumers, and society. That is, CRM has become to be spotlighted as a new type of CSR. It focuses on partnership between a company and consumers based on cause and mutual profit pursuing through this partnership. So, many contemporary companies prefer CRM activities that derive their positive corporate image, that increase their sales, and that reduce their financial cost. The IBM Matching Grants Program, which is the largest of the IBM-Employee partnership programs, is a typical CRM. This program enables employees and retirees to increase the value of their donations to educational institutions, hospitals, hospices, nursing homes, and cultural & environmental organizations with a matching gift from IBM. Hundreds of educational institutions and thousands of nonprofit organizations have benefited from the contributions by IBM. There might be various types of matching grants. For example, an employee might choose a lump-sum expense or partitioning a lump-sum into a series of small ongoing expenses for his (or her) donation, and a firm might match the employee's total contribution with a lump-sum expense or might match the employee's total contribution with a series of small ongoing expenses. However, it is not easy to find an academic research on which type of matching grant is preferred by employees. This paper shows that an employee prefers the type of matching grants that consists of a lump-sum expense for his (or her) contribution and a series of small ongoing expenses for a firm's contribution [or the type of matching grants that consists of a series of small ongoing expenses for an employee's contribution and a lump-sum expense for a firm's contribution] to the other types of matching grants.

A Study of the Librarian Personnel for Public Libraries on the Lump-sum Personnel Expenditure System (공무원 총액인건비제에서 공공도서관 사서직 인력에 대한 고찰)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the influence of the change on librarian number of local governments on the lump-sum personnel expenditure system. Data were collected and analyzed from the Enhanced local laws and regulations information system and local government home pages of 15 local governments where opened more than two public libraries from 2008 to 2010. Results show that the number of 15 government employees was increased but the number of librarian was slightly increased. Also, the number of administrative positions was increased using plural series position system. It shows that the number of librarian can be increased under the lump-sum personnel expenditure system.

Tragus formation during concha-type microtia repair using a chondrocutaneous island flap

  • Formation of an ideally-shaped tragus remains one of the most challenging issues during staged tragus reconstruction in microtia patients. The authors describe a new method used to treat a unique case of concha-type microtia in which the 10-year-old male patient had only a portion of pre-existing cartilage at the tragus site. An anomalous skin lump was also present. During the initial stages of the reconstruction, the two-stage Nagata method was used for surgical correction of the microtia. An autologous rib cartilage graft was used to form the ear framework. A temporoparietal fascia flap was also constructed. Remnant skin tags and anomalous cartilage that accompany microtia are usually removed during microtia repair. However, the cartilage and skin lump were preserved during the reconstruction. The skin lump was later used to form a vascularized chondrocutaneous island flap that supplemented the portion of cartilage during tragus formation. The result was a new tragus that was satisfactorily improved in both size and shape. Patients with concha-type microtia may benefit from the use of this new method for tragus formation.

Effect of Carbonized Wastewoods on Purification of Wastewater (목질폐잔재 탄화물의 수질정화 효과)

  • This study examined the effect of carbonized wastewoods on purification of waste water. The purification ability of charcoals(lump-shaped, approximately 3×3×3 cm) maded by wood-based material for waste water from a kitchen and septic tank was superior to those of thinned wood. For lump-shaped charcoal, gaps between particles in particleboard, and gaps between fibers in MDF were much more effective than micropore in purification of waste water. After purification test, color of waste water from wood-based material charcoals were much more lighter than thinned wood charcoals. In addition, odors of waste water from both charcoals tended to be decreased.
