The effect of Schizandrae fructus extract (S.F.E.) on experimentally alloxan-induced diabetes in rabbits and the acute toxicity on mice were studied; $LP_{50}$ of the extract was 21.50g/kg by intraperitoneal administration in mice. S.F.E. showed more rapid recovering effect than the control group : all samples showed excellent effect of lowering the hyperglycemia, that is, the blood glucose level was significantly decreased by 800mg/kg in 2 days and by 200mg/kg in 6 days. SGPT activity was lowered promptly after 4 days in 800mg/kg. Total cholesterol level was not shown significant lowering effect by 200mg/kg, but rapid by 800mg/kg in 6 days; blood urea nitrogen level was decreased gradually in 800mg/kg after 10 days and 14 days in 200mg/kg. In histological studies of pancreas, the sample groups exhibited less karyorrhexis, vacuolar and vesicular change, more stable in contents of ${\beta}-cells$ than the control group.

Among the Araliaceae plants indigenous to Korea, those whose medicinal usage are comparatively high have been selected in this serial studies. Chiisanoside and acanthoside D were isolated and identified from the Acanthopanax chinensis leaves and root bark. Chiisanoside and acanthoside D have been found to have the lowering S-GPT, S-GOT value and BSP-retention rate and survival rate, anti-histaminic effect in the toxic state through the bio-pharmacological experiments. ${\alpha}-hederin$, hederagenin pentaglycoside were isolated both stem bark of Kalopanax pictum Nakai var. magnificum and Kalopanax pictum Nakai var. Max. respectively. Syringoside, acanthoside D were also isolated from the root bark of Acanthopanax koreanum. The biological activity of ginsenoside $Rb_1$, $Rg_1$, Re were examined. Ginsenoside $Rb_1$, $Rg_1$, Re promotes the antileaking effect in X-ray (Co 60) irradiated toxic state.

Microcellular foaming plastics create a sensation at polymer industrial for lowering product costs and overcoming a lowering of mechanical intensity. Among many advantages, microcellular foaming plastics is well known to have a good acoustical properties. This research based on the experiment of sound absorption and transmission characteristics inquire into acoustical properties of microcellular foaming plastics. Difference of transmission loss of microcellular foaming plastics and solid materials was defined as cell effect. Also, cell effect is expressed by sound reflection and sound absorption. This study is expected to fundamental research to present economical, functional alternative plan for products using sound absorption and transmission materials.

This review contains a discussion of the physiological activity of the components of Allium vegetables. Organosulfur compounds in Allium vegetables, such as ajoene, diallyl sulfides and S allylcysteine, have cancer preventive activity in chemically induced animal cancer models. They also have inhibitory effects on proliferation of cancer cells in vitro. Allium vegetables have lipid and cholesterol lowering effect, and platelet aggregation inhibitory activity that help the prevention of cardiovascular diseases. Sulfur con taining compounds, especially allicin and ajoene, have antimicrobial activities against gram negative, positive bacteria and fungi. Moreover, Allium organosulfur compounds such as S allylcysteine showed reducing effects on the senescence related symptoms including cognition. Allium organosulfur compounds have significant importance in food industry as both biologically active ingredients and savory.

The present paper describes the serum cholesterol level lowering effect of the underground parts of Rosa rugosa(Rosaceae) which have been used in a folkloric medicine for treating diabetics. The methanol extract was shown to lower the serum lipid level against the normal and 1% cholesterol and 0.5% cholic acid diet feeding to rats, respectively. When various fractions prepared from the above methanol extract was administered, the ethyl acetate-soluble fractions lowered the serum cholesterol level most remarkably. And when (+)-catechin from the ethyl acetate-soluble fractions was only administered to them, the serum cholesterol level was significantly lowered to 260$\pm$9.3mg/dl, the decrease of 17% for the control group. Therefore, it is suggested that (+)-catechin is one of the active principles of this plant.

식염, sodium lactate, glycerin, propylene glycol 및 sorbitol의 5종의 첨가제를 두 종류씩 일정 비율로 혼합하여 첨가함으로써 이들 혼합첨가제의 수 분활성 저하효과를 조사하였다. 이들 첨가제에 NaCl을 일정 비율로 혼합첨가한 경우가 다른 첨가물에 비하여 저하효과가 현저히 좋았으며, sodium lactate의 첨가량 증가에 따른 수분활성저하효과는 식염의 1/2 정도로 나타나며, glycerin, propylene glycol, sorbitol 보다는 우수하였다. glycerin과 propylene glyco1을 다른 첨가물에 일정 비율로 증가시키면서 첨가하였을 경우의 수분활성저하효과는 glycerin이 propylene glycol보다 약간 좋았으나, 그 차이는 극히 미미하였다. 5종의 첨가제 중에서 sorbitol의 첨가량 증가에 따른 수분활성 저하효과가 가장 적게 나타났다. 실제 측정된 수분활성치와 Raoult의 식에 의한 계산치와 비교 검토한 결과는 첨가량이 적은 범위에서는 거의 일치하는 경향을 볼 수 있으나 첨가량이 증가할수록 실측치와 많은 차이를 나타내고 있어 어묵의 수분활성 예측법으로는 부적합하다고 생각되었다. 그래서 직선경사법에 이론적 근거를 두어 각종 첨가제에 있어서 수분활성 저하효과를 예측하기 위한 예측식을 구하여 보았다.

This study examined the effect of railway traffic controllers' negative perception of organizational culture on their job demand and job satisfaction in relation to the moderating effect of self-efficacy. Results showed that the aggressive/defensive culture based on power and competition, had a positive (+) effect on job demand and job satisfaction. On the other hand, in the conditional process model in which self-efficacy affects the relationship between organizational culture, job demand, and job satisfaction, self-efficacy played a significant role in lowering the level of job demand, and it contributed to the increase of job satisfaction through a mediating effect. This results suggest the needs for lowering the level of job demand by changing the present aggressive/defensive organizational culture into the constructive one. And also, much consideration for maintaining the level of their self-efficacy should be spent.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to review clinical studies related to the effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) on moderate to severe obese patients with hypertension. Methods: Clinical studies from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were searched by specific keywords and criteria. Total of 7 randomized controlled trials were selected and analyzed. Results: Various evaluation methods were used to see the effect of TCM compared to conventional western medicine. Most of the studies used herbal medicine combined with conventional anti-hypertensive western medicine. The effective rate of anti-hypertension was higher when TCM was added to conventional anti-hypertensive medicine. Traditional medicine treatment showed significant effect on lowering blood pressure and body mass index. Conclusions: Based on the results of the clinical studies from China, TCM can be a valuable option for moderate to severe obese patients with hypertension. Applying Traditional medicine has a significant effect on lowering blood pressure and weight loss. Combining herbal medicine can be worthy of clinical promotion and application for moderate and severe obese patients with hypertension.
