Secondary flows have a huge impact on losses generation in modern low pressure gas turbines (LPTs). At design point, the interaction of the blade profile with the end-wall boundary layer is responsible for up to 40% of total losses. Therefore, predicting accurately the end-wall flow field in a LPT is extremely important in the industrial design phase. Since the inlet boundary layer profile is one of the factors which most affects the evolution of secondary flows, the first main objective of the present work is to investigate the impact of two different inlet conditions on the end-wall flow field of the T106A, a well known LPT cascade. The first condition, labeled in the paper as C1, is represented by uniform conditions at the inlet plane and the second, C2, by a flow characterized by a defined inlet boundary layer profile. The code used for the simulations is based on the Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) formulation and solves the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations coupled with the Spalart Allmaras turbulence model. Secondly, this work aims at estimating the influence of viscosity and turbulence on the T106A end-wall flow field. In order to do so, RANS results are compared with those obtained from an inviscid simulation with a prescribed inlet total pressure profile, which mimics a boundary layer. A comparison between C1 and C2 results highlights an influence of secondary flows on the flow field up to a significant distance from the end-wall. In particular, the C2 end-wall flow field appears to be characterized by greater over turning and under turning angles and higher total pressure losses. Furthermore, the C2 simulated flow field shows good agreement with experimental and numerical data available in literature. The C2 and inviscid Euler computed flow fields, although globally comparable, present evident differences. The cascade passage simulated with inviscid flow is mainly dominated by a single large and homogeneous vortex structure, less stretched in the spanwise direction and closer to the end-wall than vortical structures computed by compressible flow simulation. It is reasonable, then, asserting that for the chosen test case a great part of the secondary flows details is strongly dependent on viscous phenomena and turbulence.
In Part I, we extended the capability of the Goore Scheme for application to multi-dimensional problems and improved convergence performance. In this paper, we apply the improved Goore Scheme to th e control of turbulence for drag reduction. Direct numerical simulations combined with the control scheme are carried out to simulate a controlled turbulent channel flow at low Reynolds number. The wall blowing and suction is applied through the Goore algorithm using the total drag as feedback. An optimum distribution of the wall blowing and suction in terms of the wall-shear stresses in the spanwise and streamwise directions is sought. The best case reduces drag by more than 20 %.

This paper presents the dimensionless wall distance, y+ effect on SST turbulent model for wind turbine blade. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Phase VI wind turbine was used for the study, which the wind tunnel and structural test data has publicly available. The near wall treatment and turbulent characteristics have important role for proper CFD simulation. Most of the CFD development in this area is focused on advanced turbulence model closures including second moment closure models, and so called Low-Reynolds (low-Re) number and two-layer turbulence models. However, in many cases CFD aerodynamic predictions based on these standard models still show a large degree of uncertainty, which can be attributed to the use of the $\epsilon$-equation as the turbulence scale equation and the associated limitations of the near wall treatment. The present paper demonstrates the y+ definition effect on SST (Shear Stress Transport) turbulent model with advanced automatic near wall treatment model and Gamma theta transitional model for transition from lamina to turbulent flow using commercial ANSYS-CFX. In all cases the SST model shows to be superior, as it gives more accurate predictions and is less sensitive to grid variations.

Fine grid calculations are reported for the developing turbulent flow in a curved duct of square cross-section with a radius of curvature to hydraulic diameter ratio ${\delta}=Rc/D_H=3.357 $ and a bend angle of 720 deg. A sequence of modeling refinements is introduced; the replacement of wall function by a fine mesh across the sublayer and a low Reynolds number algebraic second moment closure up to the near wall sublayer in which the non-linear return to isotropy model and the cubic-quasi-isotropy model for the pressure strain are adopted; and the introduction of a multiple source model for the exact dissipation rate equation. Each refinement is shown to lead to an appreciable improvement in the agreement between measurement and computation.
The stabilization characteristics of diffusion flame formed in the wake of a cylindrical flame holder were investigated. Distribution of turbulence intensity, concentration distribution of combustion gas, and ion currents were measured. The turbulence intensity in the wake of cylindrical- game holder is increased with increase of diameter or blockage ratio of grid. If the auxiliary fuel is injected into recirculation zone, the concentration of $C_3H_8$ is high, but the concentration of $CO_2$ is low at the boundary of recirculation zone. The region with highest average value of ion currents in the middle of flame is moved to the upstream side by the turbulent components of main stream. The flame mass with partially active reaction is moved fast for uniform flow and turbulence generator G3, but the flame mass with relatively slow reaction is moved slowly for turbulence generator G1.

A cross-flow fan relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice and blades have a forward curved shape. Therefore, the performance of a cross-flow fan is influenced 25% by the impeller, 60% by the rearguider and the stabilizer, 15% by the heat exchanger. At the low flow rate, there exists a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an unsteady flow against a stabilizer and a rearguider. Moreover, it is difficult to analyze the reciprocal relations of the cross-flow fan because each parameter is independent. Numerical analyses are conducted with different starting angles of the rearguider. Two-dimensional, unsteady governing equations are solved, using FVM, PISO algorithm, sliding grid system and ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ standard turbulence model.
The present study focuses on the case of developing flow with in a channel containing a long array of sinusoidal waves (2a/${\lambda}$=0.1, ${\lambda}$=h, ${\lambda}$ is the wavelength, 2a is the wave height, h is the mean channel depth) at the bottom wall. The Reynolds number defined with channel height, h and the mean velocity, U, is Re=6,700. The channel is sufficiently long such that transition is completed and the flow is fully developed over the downstream half of the channel. For the case of an incoming steady flow with no resolved turbulence, the instantaneous flow fields in the transition region are characterized by the formation of arrays of highly-organized large-scale hairpin vortices whose dimensions scale with that of the roughness elements. The paper explains the mechanism for the formation of these arrays of hairpin vortices and shows these eddies play the primary role in the formation of the large-scale streaks of high and low velocity over the wavy wall region. The presence of resolved turbulence in the incoming flow, reduces the streamwise distance needed for the streaks to develop over the wavy region, but does not affect qualitatively the transition process. In the fully-developed region, isolated and trains of large-scale hairpins play an important role in the dynamics of the streaks over the wavy wall.

Concerns for energy conservation, environmental pollution, and the fact that organic wastes account for a major portion of our waste materials, have created the interest of biogas, which usually contains about 60 to 70 percent methane, 30 to 40 percent carbon dioxide, and other gases, including ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans and other noxious gases. Cyclone combustors are used for homing a wide range of fuels such as low calorific value gas, waste water, sludge. coal, etc. The 3-dimensional swirling flow, combustion and emission in a tangential inlet cyclone incinerator under different inlet conditions are simulated using a standard k-s turbulence model and ESCRS (Extended Simple Chemically-Reacting System) model. The commercial code Phoenics Ver.3.4 was used for the present work. The main parameters considered in this work are inlet velocity and air to fuel ratio. The results showed that the change of operating conditions had an influence on the shape and size of recirculation zones, mixture fraction and axial velocity which are important factors for combustion efficiency and emission behavior. The application of this kind of computer program seams to be promising as a potential tool for the optimum design of a cyclone combustor with low emission.
A cross-flow fan is widely used on many industrial fields: a blower for the general industry, mining industry, automobile and home appliances. The design point of the cross-flow fan is generally chosen by based on the region within low static pressure and high flow rate. It relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice. However, it has low static pressure efficiency between $30\%$ and $40\%$ because of relative high impact loss. Recently, in the air-conditioning systems, the operating behaviors at the off-design points are highly regarded to broaden the application area for various air-cooling loads. Especially, at the low flow rate, there exists a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an irregular flow against a rearguider as a scroll of centrifugal fan. Numerical analyses are carried out for cross-flow fan including the impeller, the rearguider and the stabilizer. Numerical domains are discretized by hexahedral cells. Three-dimensional, unsteady governing equations are solved using FVM, SIMPLE algorithm, sliding grid system and standard k-$\epsilon$ turbulence model.
This paper demonstrates a computational method in predicting aerodynamic noise generated from wind turbines. Low frequency noise due to displacement of fluid and leading fluctuation, according to the blade passing motion, is modelled on monopole and dipole sources. They are predicted by Farassat 1A equation. Airfoil self noise and turbulence ingestion noise are modelled upon quadrupole sources and are predicted by semi-empirical formulas composed on the groundwork of Brooks et al. and Lowson. Aerodynamic flow in the vicinity of the blade should be obtained first, while noise source modelling need them as numerical inputs. Vortex Lattice Method(VLM) is used to compute aerodynamic conditions near blade. In the use of program X-foil [M.Drela] boundary layer characteristics are calculated to obtain airfoil self noise. Wind turbine blades are divided into spanwise unit panels, and each panel is considered as an independent source. Retarded time is considered, not only in low frequency noise but also In turbulence ingestion noise and airfoil self noise prediction. Numerical modelling is validated with measurement from NREL [AOC15/50 Turbine) and ETSU [Markham's VS45] wind turbine noise measurements.
