  • We investigated the effects of ZnO thin film deposition methods on the performance of inverted polymer solar cells with a structure of ITO/ZnO/P3HT:PCBM/MoO3/Al. The ZnO thin films were deposited by various methods (spin coating of nanoparticles, sol-gel process, atomic layer deposition) and their morphology was analyzed by atomic force microscopy (AFM). The device with ZnO nanoparticle thin films showed the highest power conversion efficiency of 3 % with low series resistance and high shunt resistance. The superior performance of the device with the ZnO nanoparticle layer is attributed to better electron extraction capability.

  • Ceramic-polymer composites have been investigated for their suitability as embedded capacitor materials because they combine the processing ability of polymers with the desired dielectric properties of ceramics. This paper discusses the dielectric properties of the ceramic ($BaTiO_3$)-polymer (Epoxy) composition as a function of ceramic particle size at a ceramic loading of 40 vol%. The dielectric constant of these ceramic-polymer composites increases as the powder size decreases. Results show that ceramic-polymer composites have a high dielectric constant associated with the $BaTiO_3$ powder with a 200 nm particle size, high insulation resistance, high breakdown voltage (> 22 KV/mm), and low dielectric loss (0.018-0.024) at 1 MHz.

  • The linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE)/zeolite composite using novel inorganic filler, zeolite, is prepared by a conventional compounding procedure using a twin-screw extruder. The observed scanning electron microscopic (SEM) morphology shows a good dispersion and adhesion of zeolite in the LLDPE matrix. The mechanical properties in terms of the Young's modulus, the yield stress, the impact strength, and the elongation at break were enhanced with a successive increment of zeolite content up to 40 wt%. The X-ray diffraction measurement is of supportive for the improved mechanical properties and the complex melt viscosity is as well. Upon applying a certain level of strain on the composites, the dewetting, the air hole formation and its growth are characterized. The dewetting originates around the filler particles at low strain and induces elliptical micropores upon further stretching. The microporosity such as the aspect ratio, the number and the total area of the air holes is also characterized. Thus, the composites loaded 40 % zeolite and 300 % elongation may be applicable for breathable microporous films with improved modulus, impact and yield stress, elongation at break, microporosity and air hole properties.

  • Micro-cell LC film and polymer network liquid crystal (PNLC) film by using continuous compatible process have been developed . A high-contrast micro-cell LC film has a strong potential as a high-performance flexible device. PNLC film has the low driving voltage. Both films show the characteristics of lightness, thinness and mechanical stability.

  • The organic insulation devices with MIM (metal-insulator-metal) structures as PVP gate insulation films were prepared for the application of organic thin film transistors (OTFT). The co-polymer organic insulation films were synthesized by using PVP(poly-4-vinylphenol) as solute and PGMEA (propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate) as solvent. The cross-linked PVP insulation films were also prepared by addition of poly (melamine-co-formaldehyde) as thermal hardener. The leakage current of the cross-linked PVP films was found to be about 300 pA with low current noise. and showed better property in electrical properties as compared with the co-polymer PVP insulation films. In addition, cross-linked PVP insulation films showed better surface morphology (roughness), showing about 0.11${\~}$0.18 nF in capacitance for all PVP film samples.

  • Inorganic-organic hybrid polymer provides various advantages including low-temperature process, high dielectric constant and direct photo-patterning. The hybrid dielectric was synthesized by the sol-gel process in which an acid-catalyzed solution of Si alkoxide and Zr alkoxide was used as a precursor. The electrical performance of transistors with hybrid dielectric was investigated.

  • Polymer Light Emitting Diodes (PLEDs) with an ITO/PEDOT:PSS/PVK/PFO-poss/LiF/Al structure were prepared on plasma-treated ITO/glass substrates using spin-coating and thermal evaporation methods. The annealing effects of the PFO-poss film when it acts as the emission layer were investigated by using electrical and optical property measurements. The annealing conditions of the PFO-poss emission film were 100 and $200^{\circ}C$ for 1, 2 and 3 hours, respectively. The luminance increased and the turn-on voltage decreased when the annealing temperature and treatment time increased. After examining the Luminance-Voltage (L-V) properties of the PLED, the maximum luminance was found to be 1497 cd/$m^2$ at 11 V for the device when it was annealed at $200^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. The peak intensity of the PLED emission spectra at approximately 525 nm in wavelength increased when the annealing temperature and time of the PFO-poss film increased. These results suggest that the light emission color shifted from blue to green.

  • We have synthesized a novel fully soluble and low-temperature processable polyimide gate insulator (KSPI) through one-step condensation polymerization. For the preparation of KSPI, 5- (2,5-dioxytetrahydrofuryl)-3-methly-3-cyclohexene- 1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride (DOCDA) and 4,4- diaminodiphenylmethane (MDA) were used as monomers and fully imidized KSPI was completely soluble in organic solvents like ${\gamma}-butyrolactone$ and 2-butoxyethanol, etc.

  • The effect of morphology on energy transfer and device performance in phosphorescent dye doped polymer light emitting diodes is reported. We selected two host polymers (PVK and PFHP) which have nearly the same potential for the energy transfer to Ir(ppy)$_3$. The PFHP:Ir(ppy)$_3$ film showed b-micron size aggregation, whereas the PVK:Ir(ppy)$_3$ film showed homogeneous and smooth images. As a result, energy transfer is efficient with high emission efficiency in PVK:Ir(ppy)$_3$ whereas little energy transfer and low quantum efficiency are obtained in PFHP:Ir(ppy)$_3$.

  • P(VDF/TrFE(72/28) ultrathin films were used in the fabrication of Metal-Ferroelectric polymer-Metal (MFM) single bit device with special emphasis on uniform film surface, faster dipole switching time under applied external field and longer memory retention time. AFM and FTIR-GIRAS were complementary in analyzing surface crystalline morphology and the resultant change in chain orientation with varying thermal history. DC-EFM technique was used to 'write-read-erase' the data on the memory bit in a much faster time than P-E studies. The results obtained from this study will enable us to have a good understanding of the ferroelectric and piezoelectric behavior of P(VDF/TrFE)(72/28) thin films suitable for high density data storage applications.
