  • The use of high-strength concrete in construction have been increasing steadily. However, high-strength concrete has a low water-binder ratio, and the problems such as cracks due to hydration heat and shrinkage during the hydration process at the early age. Recently, as a method to reduce the shrinkage of concrete, study of internal curing has carried out according to increasing about interest about it. In this study, the effect of compressive strength on the curing condition(drying, moist, water) was investigated by using artificial lightweight aggregate(LWA) in high strength and high volume mortar. As a result of autogenous shrinkage, the effect of shrinkage reduction was enhanced depending on the increasing of LWA replacement. According to the curing condition, the results of compressive strength showed the different trend. The compressive strength has increased on the drying and moisture condition and decreased on the water condition.

  • Ternary blended concrete(TBC), which contains both fly ash and granulated blast furnace slag, has an initial cost effective and is environment friendly. Furthermore, it has a lot of technical advantages such as the improvement of long term compressive strength, high workability, and the reduction of hydration heat. However, as the use and study on the performance of ternary blended concrete is limited, it is low short term compressive strength. This study was performed to evaluate the characteristics which are a long and short term compressive strengths, permeability and chemical attacks resistance of hardened high early concrete containing slag powder and fly-ash using high early strength cement(HE-TBC). Replacement rate of FA is fixed on 10% and replacement rate of slag powder are 0%, 10%, 20% and 30%. The test results showed that compressive and flexural strength of HE-TBC increased as the slag contents increased from 0% to 30% at the short term of curing. The permeability resistance of HE-TBC(fly ash 10%, blast 30%) was extremely good at the short and long terms. However, high early strength ternary blended concrete had weak on carbonation of chemical attack.

  • The effects of external restraint on the thermal stresses i n mass concrete are investigated through a series of parametric study. Two major factors affecting the degree of external restraint such as the ratio of length to height of the placed structure (L/H) and the elastic modulus of base structure ($E_r$) are employed as the parameters in a condition which a placing height H is 1.0m. Various conditions of I,/H and E, are analysed by a FEM program and the relationship between these two parameters is examined. The shape of stress distribution due to the external restraint is shown as linearity on the height direction of the section, and is influenced by L/H, $E_r$, and strength development of placed concrete. The external restraint can be devided by two part. One is an axial restraint and the other is a flexural restraint. When the level of external restraint is low, the structure behavior is mainly governed by flexural restraint, otherwise it is dependent on axial restraint. Comparing the calculated stress by the method of the ACI 207 committee with a finite element analysis, the fbrmer overestimates the external restraint stress when the degree of external restraint is weak, and underestimates when it is strong.

  • Purpose: Although the damage caused by abnormal temperatures is extensive, blow-up or black ice is typical in concrete structures. In this study, PCM with high phase change energy was mixed with concrete to reduce temperature damage to concrete pavement. Method: In order to reduce temperature damage to low temperatures and high temperatures, capsule-type PCM with phase change temperatures of 4.5℃ and 44℃ was replaced by 10%, 30%, and 50%, and thermal performance experiments and compressive strength experiments were conducted using thermocouples and variable chambers. Result: As a result of the thermal performance experiment, it was found that the incorporation of PCM improves temperature resistance by up to 25% or more, and increases thermal resistance at all temperatures with high specific heat when substituted in large amounts. As a result of the compression strength experiment, a substitution of 30% or more resulted in a decrease in the compression strength, and a large strength difference was shown based on the phase change temperature of the PCM. Conclusion: The incorporation of PCMs has been shown to increase the thermal performance of concrete, with the greatest increase in thermal performance near the phase change temperature of PCM. In addition, a small strength reduction of 10% to 20% occurs at the highest substitution rate of 50% substitution, so there is no significant problem with usability, and additional PCM substitution is expected to improve thermal performance.

  • In this paper, effects of mixture proportion and material condition on both fundamental properties, drying and autogenous shrinkage of high performance concrete are discussed. According to the results, for the effect of mixture proportion on the fundamental properties, decrease in W/B and unit water content results in reduction of fluidity, while air content has no variation. Compressive strength exhibits an decreasing tendency with an increase in W/B and unit water content do not remarkable affect the compressive strength. For the effect of materials on the fluidity, the fluidity of low heat portland cement(LPC) is smaller than that of ordinary portland cement(OPC). The use of Polycarbonic acid based superplasticizer(PS) has more favorable effect on enhancing fluidity than Naphtalene based superplasticlzer(NS) and Melamine based superplasticizer(MS). Air content of concrete using LPC is larger than that using OPC. The effects of superplasticizer type on the air content is larger in order of MS, PS and NS. The use of LPC exhibited lower strength development at early age than OPC, whereas after 91days, similar level of compressive strength is achieved regardless of cement type. Compressive strength of concrete is not affected by SP type. For the effect of mixture proportion and materials on drying and autogenous shrinkage, an increase in W/B results in reduction of drying shrinkage and an decrease in water content leads to reduce drying shrinkage. Autogenous shrinkage is not observed until 49 days with the concrete mixture with $35\%$ of W/B and $145 kg/m^3$ of water content. This is due to the combination effects of expansion admixture and shrinkage reducing admixture, which causes an offset of autogenous shrinkage. The use of LPC results in a reduction in autogenous shrinkage compared with OPC. SP type has little influence on the autogenous shrinkage. It is found from the results that mixture proportioning of high performance concrete incorporating fly ash, silica fume, expansion admixture and shrinkage reducing admixture is need to focus on the increase in W/B and the reduction in water content and the use of LPC and MS is also required to use to secure the stability against shrinkage properties.

  • This study investigated the fluidity, heat of hydration, setting time, strength development, and characteristics of hydration and pozzolanic reactions of high-strength high-volume ground granulated blast-furnace slag(GGBFS) blended cement pasts with the water-to-binder ratio of 20% by experiments, and analyzed the effects of the replacement ratio and fineness of GGBFS on the hydration and pozzolanic reaction. The results show that, in the high-strength mixtures with low water-to-binder ratio, the initial hydration is accelerated due to the "dilution effect" which means that the free water to react with cement increases by the replacement of cement by GGBFS, and thus, strengths at from 3 to 28 days were higher than those of plain mixtures with ordinary Portland cement only. Whereas it was found that the long term strength development is limited because the hydration reaction rates rapidly decreases with ages and the degree of pozzolanic reaction is lowered due to insufficient supply of calcium hydroxide according to large replacement of cement by GGBFS. Also, the GGBFS with higher fineness absorbs more free water, and thus it decreases the fluidity, the degree of hydration, and strength. These results are different with those of normal strength concrete, and therefore, should be verified for concrete mixtures. Also, to develop the high-strength concrete with high-volume of GGBFS, the future research to enhance the long-term strength development is needed.

  • The exothermic property of electrical conductivity concrete would allow the heating system of house or snow melting system of tunnel, road or bridge deck. This study was performed on electric resistance, exothermic property and mechanical property of the mortar with graphite of carbon-based conductive material as a fundamental research for the heat conductive concrete development. As the results of this experiment, the increasement on the amorphous graphite substitution rate was found to decrease in the compressive strength, however, the electric resistance was found to be significantly lower. And, in order to demonstrate the exothermic property, the graphite was found to be included more than 15% of the total mortar volume. When low electric resistance obtained with a certain level of the graphite inclusion, exothermic value and applied voltage has a higher correlation, and the exothermic value and the square of the voltage appeared to be in a proportional relationship.

  • Immersion tests with artificial seawater were carried out to investigate the resistance to seawater attack of 5 types of cement matrices. From the results of compressive strength and length change, it was found that blended cement mortars due to mineral admixtures, were superior to portland cement mortars with respect to the resistance to seawater attack. Moreover, XRD analysis indicated that the peak intensity ratio of low heat portland cement(LHC) paste, in portland cement pastes, had better results, and so did that of blended cement Paste. Pore volume of pastes by mercury intrusion porosimetry method demonstrated that total pore volume of ordinary portland cement(OPC) paste had a remarkable increase comparing with that of other pastes. In case of immersion of artificial seawater, the use of ground granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash, however, showed the beneficial effects of 56% and 32% in reduction of total pore volume, respectively.

  • Currently, the most commonly used EPS insulation material has been mainly used because its ease of adhesion with concrete. However, due to poor adhesion with wallpaper, separate adhesion needs to be strengthened and there are cases of breakage or grooves in the process of dismantling the mold. The biggest problem is that when a fire breaks out, various harmful substances are present and highly flammable. Cork used in this study is a truly eco-friendly building material that is taken from between the outer and inner bark of cork trees and does not damage the wood. Also, it is a porous material that is made up of countless cells and contains an air gap between the cells. It is very light in weight between 0.06 and 0.07 and has excellent insulation with a heat conductivity of 0.04W/mK. In addition, it has high stability in the topic of conversation because it does not produce harmful gas when burned and has self-sustaining properties. However, research on cork, an eco-friendly building material with excellent performance to date, is scarce Therefore, we encourage existing scholars to raise interest in new eco-friendly building materials through this study. It also aims to manufacture insulation boards with new inorganic properties using the low weight and heat conductivity held by the cork.

  • The purpose of this study is to study how F.L. Wright reflected the climatic properties and materials of the region into creative ways of designing his architecture. The research method examined the design methods and use of materials by Wright in existing research literature and compares the space plans of housing works in Arizona. The research results will be summarized as follows : 1) For two-story houses, pilotis was used to avoid the hot air and the walls on the ground floor were often planned as thick wall. 2) In the fifties, F.L. Wright's design method changed in a circle from the vertical and horizontal lines. 3) F.L.Wright's Architectural form concepts and design concepts were extracted from local symbolic forms and natural forms. 4) F.L.Wright avoided Arizona's direct light but Indirect sunlight enters into the interior space. 5)External space was expressed as a closed space, while internal space was expressed as an open space. It's like an organic space. 6) Most of the housing materials used are stone and cement from rough deserts, and wood with low heat conductivity and thick concrete blocks to prevent the sunlight from rising above.
