CFD simulation of a prefilming air blast fuel nozzle (Prefilming air blast 연료 노즐의 다상유동 및 반응 유동장 수치해석)

  • Numerical study of air-blast type injector for low emission aircraft engines was conducted. Volume-of-fluids approach was used to track interface of fuel and air. Primary atomization of fuel stream was visualized, and thickness and mean velocity at the injector exit was calculated. Liquid fuel injected from fuel slots joined together as a thin film on preflimer surface, and interacted with swirling air. As instability on the fuel surface increased, separation of fuel as ligaments and droplets occured. The film thickness and velocity were used to as fuel injection boundary condition for reactive flow simulation. Primary reaction zone was formed in vicinity of the fuel nozzle, creating a stable flame inside the combustor.

Effect of Length of Outfall Structure on Reattachment of Thermal Discharge (온수방류의 귀환에 방류구 길이의 영향)

  • The reattachment of buoyant effluent to shore in a crossflow is investigated experimentally. The effluent is produced by discharging warm water through projecting side channel into a confined cross-flow of the same depth. In the projecting effluent, the size of recirculating region, which is formed by defleted thermal plume on the lee of the effluent, tends to increase, but the maximum temperature decreases in the direction of the crossflow and it has more even transverse spreading compared to non-projecting type. The heat flux across the crossflow is found to be independant of the projected length of the side channel under relatively low buoyancy flux on the contrary to high buoyancy flux. The reattachment of the effluent can be specified by both velocity ratio and densimetric Froude number, whereas only the velocity ratio is governing factor to the reattachment of the effluent in the case of non-projecting type.

  • Simulation studies on catalytic methanation reaction in externally cooled tubular reactor filled with monolithic catalysts were carried out using a general purpose modelling tool $gPROMS^{(R)}$. We investigated the effects of operating parameters such as gas space velocity, temperature and pressure of feeding gas on temperature distribution inside the reactor, overall CO conversion, and chemical composition of product gas. In general, performance of methanation reaction is favored under low temperature and high pressure for a wide range of their values. However, methane production becomes negligible at temperatures below 573K when the reactor temperature is not high enough to ignite methanation reaction. Capacity enhancement of the reactor by increasing gas space velocity and/or gas inlet pressure resulted no significant reduction in reactor performance and heat transfer property of catalyst.

Reduction Characteristics of Oxygen Carriers in a Pressurized Bubbling Fluidized Bed (가압 기포유동층에서 산소전달입자들의 환원반응특성)

  • Effects of pressure, temperature, gas velocity, and fuel flow rate on reduction of three oxygen carriers, SDN70, OC-1, OC-2, were measured and investigated in a pressurized bubbling fluidized bed reactor. Among three oxygen carriers OC-2 was selected as the best oxygen carrier in view of fuel conversion and $CO_2$ selectivity. However, all oxygen carriers showed good reactivity even at high pressure conditions. SDN70 particle showed maximum reactivity at $900^{\circ}C$ and low reactivity at $950^{\circ}C$. However, reactivity decay of OC-1 and OC-2 particles at high temperature condition was negligible. The fuel conversion and the $CO_2$ selectivity slightly decreased as the gas velocity increased, whereas they are slightly increased as the fuel concentration increased.

A Study on the AlN Thin Film on A1$_2$O$_3$ Substrate Prepared by Reactive RF Magnetron Sputtering System for SAW Device Application (A1$_2$O$_3$기판위에 반응성 RF 마그네트론 스퍼터로 증착한 AlN 박막의 SAW소자 응용에 관한 연구)

  • AlM thin film has been deposited on A1$_2$O$_3$ substrate by reactive radio frequency(RF) magnetron sputtering method under various operating conditions such as working pressure, fraction of nitrogen partial pressure, and substrate temperature. Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM), X-ray Diffraction(XRD), and Atomic Force Microscope(AFM) have been measured to find out structural properties and preferred orientation of AlN thin films. SAW velocity of IDTs/AlN/Si structure was about 5038[㎧] at the center frequency of 251.9[MHz] and insertion loss was measured to be relatively low value of 35.6[dB]. SAW velocity of IDTs/AlN/A1$_2$O$_3$ structure was improved to be about 5960[㎧] at the center frequency of 296.7[MHz].

  • In this study, the effect of reformer gas(RG) on the performance development of the exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) was investigated numerically in $CH_4/air$ premixed flame. Typically EGR is used to reduce the flame temperature and NOx emission, whereas RG can be used to improve the flame stability, such as homing velocity. This competitive relationship is focused in this study. As a result, it can be identified that the adjustments of EGR and RG ratio can achieve the low NOx emission and the similar flame stability to pure $CH_4/air$ premixed flame simultaneously.

  • A SAW strain sensor based on Shear Horizontal wave with an 92 MHz central frequency was developed. It consists of SAW sensor, PCB substrate and bonding material (Loctite 401). External force applied to PCB substrate bonded to a piezoelectric substrate induces strain at the substrate surface, which causes changes in the elastic constant and density of the substrate and hence the propagation velocity of the SAW. The change in the velocity of the SAW result in a frequency shift of the sensor and by measuring a frequency shift, we can extract the strain induced by the external force. The $41^{\circ}$ YX $LiNbO_3$ was used because it has a Leaky shear horizontal(SH) wave propagation mode and a high electromechanical coupling coefficient ($K^2$=17.2%). And to compare with Rayleigh wave mode, $128^{\circ}$ YX $LiNbO_3$ was used. And to make a stable and low insert loss, Split IDT structure was used. The obtained sensitivity and linearity of the SAW strain sensor in the case of Split IDT were measured to be 17.2 kHz / % and 0.99, respectively.

Engineering Realization of Full Attitude System Based On GPS Carrier Phase and MEMS IMU

  • This paper describes the design and realization of full attitude system based on MEMS IMU and GPS carrier phase. The work can be divided into two parts: First, initial heading is determined by using two GPS receivers. And this paper discusses the usage of space geometry conditions to reduce the range of ambiguity search. The method presented in this paper was tested on the static. On the static condition, an accuracy better than 0.06 degrees for heading for 3.48m long baseline has been achieved. Integration of GPS and low cost MEMS IMU are used to realize the real-time heading attitude system. Second, level attitude (pitch and roll) is determined using the method of frequency-velocity for the feedback control. At the same time, the method using the attitude based on MEMS IMU to help determination of the range of ambiguity search is proposed. The results done on the sea show that an alternative means to provide real-time, cost-effective, accurate and reliable attitude information for attitude surveys. Though motivated by a big ships application, the design can be applied to other vehicles.

  • A distributed uplink power control algorithm based on flocking model is proposed to improve the energy efficiency of mobiles station (MS) in cellular networks. As each bird in a flock matches its velocity with the average velocity of the adjacent birds, each MS in a cell matches its uplink rate with the average uplink rate of the co-channel MSs in adjacent cells by controlling its transmission power. Results show that the proposed algorithm effectively reduces the power consumption in the MS, while maintaining a low outage probability, which eventually improves the energy efficiency of the MS.

In addition, because the bearings use of the marine environment and the cryogenic environment was constrained. In this study, the excellent long-term reliability, using ultrasonic-type environment that is not constrained to produce wind anemometer located $90^{\circ}$ conformal road using four piezoelectric sensors were fabricated structures, the piezoelectric oscillator circuit produces a rash and receiving transmit and receive speeds the car through the two-axis vector calculation to measure wind velocity processor firmware programming, and its characteristics were tested.
