This study aims to investigate the suitability of requirement for post-weld heat treatment(PWHT) temperature when different P-No. materials are welded, which is defined by ASME Sec. III Code. For SA-516 Gr. 60 and SA-106 Gr. B carbon steels that are typical P-No. 1 material, simulated heat treatment were conducted for 8 h at $610^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$, $690^{\circ}C$, and $730^{\circ}C$, last two temperature falls in the temperature of PWHT for P-No. 5A low-alloy steels. Tensile and Charpy impact tests were performed for the heat-treated specimens, and then microstructure was analyzed by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive spectrometry. The Charpy impact properties deteriorated significantly mainly due to a large amount of cementite precipitation when the temperature of simulated heat treatment was $730^{\circ}C$. Therefore, when dissimilar metal welding is carried out for P-No. 1 carbon steel and different P-No. low alloy steel, the PWHT temperature should be carefully selected to avoid significant deterioration of impact properties for P-No. 1 carbon steel.
AlN is used a wide variety of applications such as electroacoustic devices, blue diode and metal-insulator-semiconductor structures. AlN thin films were deposited on Si substrates by rf sputter technique with low temperature process. The orientation and morphology of AlN thin films at various power in the range from 150 to 300 w was studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD), full width at half-maximum (FWHM) and field emission scanning electron microscopy were employed to characterize the deposited films. The c-axis orientation along (002) Plane at experimental results was enhanced with the increasing of the rf power from 150 to 300 w and the surface morphology of the films showed a homogeneous and nano-sized microstructure.
The effects of cooling rate on the microstructures, precipitation of Cu-cluster, .epsilon.-Cu and impact toughness of high strength low alloy(HSLA) steel were studied using hardness tester, impact tester, DSC(differential scanning calorimetry), AES(auger electron spectroscopy) and TEM(transmission electron microscopy). Not only the Cu-precipitates but also the segregation of Cu, As, Sb, P, S, N, Sn along grain boundary were not observed at the specimens heat treated from 800.deg. C to 300.deg. C with the cooling time of 12-125 sec. The Cu-cluster, .epsilon.-Cu are formed by introducing ageing after cooling and the effect of precipitates on hardening increase after cooling was the same in all cooling rate. The peak hardness was obtained at an ageing of 500.deg. C in all cooling conditions. The impact energy become higher as the cooling time increases. This fact can be explained to be due to the tempering effect applied on the cooling stage since the present alloy has a relatively high Ms temperature and the local high concentration of the retained austenite.
Magnesium oxide is thermodynamically very stable, has a low dielectric constant and a low refractive index, and has been widely used as substrate for growing various thin film materials, particulary oxides of the perovskite structure. There has been a considerable interest in integrating the physical properties of these oxides with semiconductor materials such as GaAs and Si. In this regard, it is considered very important to be able to grow MgO buffer layers epitaxially on the semiconductors. Various oxide films can then be grown on such buffer layers eliminating the need for using MgO single crystal substrates. Vapor phase epitaxy of magnesium oxide has been accomplished on Si(001) substrates in a high vacuum chamber using the single precursor methylmagnesium tert-butoxide in the temperature range 750-80$0^{\circ}C$. For the epitaxy of the MgO films, SiC buffer layers had to be grown on Si(001). The films were characterized by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) in situ in the growth chamber, and x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray pole figure analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) after the growth.
Magnesium-antimonide is a well-known zintl phase thermoelectric material with low band gap energy, earth-abundance and characteristic electron-crystal phonon-glass properties. The nominal composition Mg3.8-xZnxSb2 (0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.02) was synthesized by controlled melting and subsequent vacuum hot pressing method. To investigate phase development and surface morphology during the process, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were carried out. It should be noted that an additional 16 at. % Mg must be added to the system to compensate for Mg loss during the melting process. This study evaluated the thermoelectric properties of the material in terms of Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity from the low to high temperature regime. The results demonstrated that substituting Zn at Mg sites increased electrical conductivity without significantly affecting the Seebeck coefficient. The maximal dimensionless figure of merit achieved was 0.30 for x = 0.01 at 855 K which is 30% greater than the intrinsic value. Electronic flow properties were also evaluated and discussed to explain the carrier transport mechanism involved in the thermoelectric properties of this alloy system.
ZnO-based materials have been extensively studied for optoelectronic applications due to their superiors physical properties such as wide direct bandgap (~3.37 eV), large exciton binding energy (~60 meV), high transparency in the visible region, and low cost. Especially, one-dimensional (1D) ZnO nanostructures have attracted considerable attention owing to quantum confinement effect and high crystalline quality. Additionally, various nanostructures of ZnO such as nanorods, nanowires, nanoflower, and nanotubes have stimulated the interests because of their semiconducting. and piezoelectric properties. Among them, vertically aligned ZnO nanorods can bring the improved performance in various promising photoelectric fields including piezo-nanogenerators, UV lasers, dye sensitized solar cells, and photo-catalysis. In this work, we studied the effect of the annealing temperature of homo seed layers on the formation of ZnO nanorods grown by hydrothermal method. The effect of annealing temperature of seed layer on the length and orientation of the nanorods was investigated scanning electron microscopy investigation. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction measurement were performed to understand the effect of annealing temperatures of seed layers on the formation of nanorods. Moreover, the optical properties of the seed layers and the nanorods were studied by room temperature photoluminescence.
${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ films were prepared by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP) on $SiO_{2}$ coated Si wafers using iron acetylacetonate as an iron precursor. The crystallographic properties and surface morphologies of the films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was carried out to determine the Fe oxidation states. In order to observe stability of the films to temperature, the resistance variation of the films with an ambient temperature was measured. The effects of substrate temperature on the structural and electrical properties of the ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}O_{3}$ films were studied. The films were densified from the substrate temperature of $350^{\circ}C$. The grain size of the films grown at $400^{\circ}C$ was shown to be increased abruptly comparing with that of $350^{\circ}C$. The films showed a low resistance variation between the ambient temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ and $350^{\circ}C$.

This work was conducted to evaluate the effect of dilute sodium hydroxide (NaOH) on barley straw at boiling temperature and fractionation of its biomass components into lignin, hemicellulose, and reducing sugars. To this end, various concentrations of NaOH (0.5% to 2%) were applied for pretreatment of barley straw at $105^{\circ}C$ for 10 min. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy studies revealed that 2% NaOH-pretreated barley straw exposed cellulose fibers on which surface granules were abolished due to comprehensive removal of lignin and hemicellulose. The X-ray diffractometer (XRD) result showed that the crystalline index was increased with increased concentration of NaOH and found a maximum 71.5% for 2% NaOH-pretreated sample. The maximum removal of lignin and hemicellulose was 84.8% and 79.5% from 2% NaOH-pretreated liquor, respectively. Reducing sugar yield was 86.5% from 2% NaOH-pretreated sample using an enzyme dose containing 20 FPU of cellulase, 40 IU of ${\beta}$-glucosidase, and 4 FXU of xylanase/g substrate. The results of this study suggest that it is possible to produce the bioethanol precursor from barley straw using 2% NaOH at boiling temperature.
