Metal sorption onto the ICS (Iron oxide coated sand) was studied in batch experiments. Heavy metal cations such as Cd, Pb, and Cu, and a metal anion, As, which sporadically exist in mine sites, were tested for the sorptive removal by ICS. In low pH conditions As showed the highest removal efficiency compared to the other metal cations. And the sorption removal of As was apparently pH-independent reaction. However, removal of metal cations increased with pH and above pH 7 most metal cations showed very low soluble concentrations after treatment. Such a high removal ratio of metal cations above the neutral pH appeared predominantly due to precipitation.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of concentration and pH of lactic acid on the formation of artificial root caries lesions formation in bovine teeth. The characterictics of artificially produced early root lesions were observed with polarized light microscope and the depth of lesions were mearsured with measuring microscope The results were as follows: 1. In the group of low pH and high concentration of lactic acid, the progress of lesion formation was faster than that of high pH and low concentration lactic acid group. 2. In the same group, initial lesion progress faster, but progression rate was reduced as time goes by. 3. In the development of initial root caries, cementum was act as a barrier to protect dentin from lesion progression.
The pH dependence studies of Raman spectra are reported for water-soluble free-base, Zn, Co and Cu tetrakis (4-sulfonatophenyl) porphine in pH 4, pH 7 and pH 13.9 aqueous solution. For free base porphine, the substantial differences are found in absorption and Raman spectra between pH 4 and pH 7 or pH 10 aqueous solutions due to the protonation at low pH. For Zn and Co porphyrins, the hydrolysis equilibrium constants are obtained by spectrophotometric titration experiments. The consistent shifts in Raman frequencies are found at high pH due to the hydrolysis. For Cu porphyrins, instead of hydrolysis the aggregation effect is detected at high pH through the absorption and Raman studies.
Photolysis behavoirs of pesticides(Chlorothalonil and Endosulfan) over UV irradiation UV irradiation with pH 3.0 and irradiation with 3.5% salt were studied. The analyses of pesticides were carried out using gas chromatograph with an electron-capture detector, total organic carbon, and Ion chromatograph, respectively. The reactions were conducted in a alumium annular reactor equipped with a low pressure mercury multilamp ($8W{\times}6$) and initial concentration was 10 ppm. Chlorothalonil was almost photodegraded by UV irradiation, UV irradiation with pH 3.0 and 3.5% salt within 30 min of reaction time. Endosulfan-${\alpha}$,${\beta}$(100%) were photodegraded to 38% of Endosulfan-${\alpha}$ and 25% of Endisulfan-${\beta}$ by UV irradiation. Endosulfan-${\alpha}$(83%) was photodegraded to 66% by UV irradiation, 70% by UV irradiation and pH 3.0 and 75% by UV irradiation and 3.5% salt. Endosulfan-${\beta}$(16%) was photodegraded to 80% by UV irradiation, 98% by UV irradiation and pH 3.0 and 90% by UV irradiation and 3.5% salt.

This study was conducted to develop an automatic nutrient-solution control system for small-scale growers. The nutrient-solution control system consisted of a low-cost and precise metering device and a personal computer. The system controlled electric conductivity(EC) and pH of nutrient-solution based on the time-based feedback control method with the information about temperature, EC, and pH of the nutrient-soIution. The performance of the nutrient-solution control system was evaluated through the control of EC and pH while compared with those of commercial nutrient-solution control system. Also an experimental cultivation of tomato was conducted to verify and to improve the developed system. Results of this study were as follows. 1. An automatic nutrient-solution control system based on a low-cost and precise metering device was developed. 2. The developed system controlled EC and pH within $\pm$0.05 mS/cm and $\pm$0.2 pH full scale error respectively at $24^{/circ}C$. 3. When using the commercial system, the controlled values of EC and pH of the 500l of water were 1.29 mS/cm and 6.1 pH for the setting points of 1.4 mS/cm and 6.0 pH respectively at $22^{/circ}C$. 4. The developed nutrient-solution control system showed $\pm$0.05 mS/cm of deviation from the setting EC value over the experimental cultivation period. 5. The deviation from the average values of Ca and Mg mass content in the several nutrient-solution were 0.5% and 1.8% respectively.

The pH of cement-based materials (CBMs) is an important factor for their durability, sustainability, and long service life. Currently, the use of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) is becoming mandatory due to economic, environmental, and sustainable issues. There is a decreasing trend in pH of CBMs due to incorporation of SCMs. The determination of numerical values of pH is very important for various low and high volume SCMs blended cement mortars for the better understanding of different defects and durability issues during their service life. In addition, the effect of cement hydration and pozzolanic reaction of SCMs on the pH should be determined at initial and later ages. In this study, the effect of low and high-volume fly ash (FA) and ground granulated ballast furnace slag (GGBFS) cement mortars in different curing conditions on their pH values has been determined. Thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA) was carried out to support the findings from pH measurements. In addition, thermal conductivity (k-value) and strength activity indices of these cement mortars were discussed. The results showed that pH values of all blended cement mortars were less than ordinary Portland cement (OPC) mortar in all curing conditions used. There was a decreasing tendency in pH of all mortars with passage of time. In addition, the pH of cement mortars was not only dependent on the quantity of Ca(OH)2. The effect of adding SCMs on the pH value of cement mortar should be monitored and measured for both short and long terms.

Previous studies have confirmed the performance of pH reduction agents using liquid sodium phosphate based ammonium chloride as a pH reduction agent. In this study, the pH reduction performance considering economical and applicability as a practical stage and the property change analysis for the identification of the reaction mechanism of the pH reduction agent were carried out. As a result, the pH reduction performance at a low rate of the pH reducing agent was confirmed. The specific gravity of CaO decreased significantly after XRF analysis. It is also believed that this reduces the amount of Ca(OH)2 produced and contributes to pH reduction.
This research was intended as an investigation of applying Reduced Pressure Evaporation as efficient treatment method for landfill leachate. According to the variance of time, temperature, pressure and pH in experiments, the properties of leachate treatment are follows. The removal efficiencies of COD, NH$_{3}$-N, TOC, Conductivity and SS on the basis of reaction time was 96.4%-97.5%, -1.4%-53.7%, 81.7%-89.0%, 92.0%-95.3% and 99.86%-99.97%, respectively. When the pH of Influent was 7.5, the pH of effluent was increased to 10-11 with time elapse. It is concluded that the orgin of pH increase may be ammonia. When the properties of concentrate were investigated at the concentration ratio 90%(V/V), concentration difficiency represented in the ratio of experimental value/calculated value had following orders ; COD>TOC>NH$_{3}$-N>Conductivity>SS. Concentrate had good precipitation because of additive thermal treatment in the process. When evaporation experiments with pH adjustment of 4.0, 6.0, 7.5, 9.0 and 10.0 were performed ; Acidic evaporation experiments(pH 4.0, 6.0) showed low removal efficiency(81.6, 87.6%) of COD and high removal efficiency (97.5%. 84.6%) of NH$_{3}$-N at initial evaporation. Basic evaporation(pH 9.0, 10.0) showed high removal efficiency (97.2%, 98.9%) of COD and very low removal efficiency (-7.4%, -27.2%) of NH$_{3}$-N at initial evaporation.
Objective: In this study we aimed to evaluate the effect of dietary live yeast supplementation on ruminal pH pattern, fermentation characteristics and associated bacteria in beef cattle. Methods: This work comprised of in vitro and in vivo experiments. In vitro fermentation was conducted by incubating 0%, 0.05%, 0.075%, 0.1%, 0.125%, and 0.15% active dried yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae, ADY) with total mixed ration substrate to determine its dose effect. According to in vitro results, 0.1% ADY inclusion level was assigned in in vivo study for continuously monitoring ruminal fermentation characteristics and microbes. Six ruminally cannulated steers were randomly assigned to 2 treatments (Control and ADY supplementation) as two-period crossover design (30-day). Blood samples were harvested before-feeding and rumen fluid was sampled at 0, 3, 6, 9, and 12 h post-feeding on 30 d. Results: After 24 h in vitro fermentation, pH and gas production were increased at 0.1% ADY where ammonia nitrogen and microbial crude protein also displayed lowest and peak values, respectively. Acetate, butyrate and total volatile fatty acids concentrations heightened with increasing ADY doses and plateaued at high levels, while acetate to propionate ratio was decreased accordingly. In in vivo study, ruminal pH was increased with ADY supplementation that also elevated acetate and propionate. Conversely, ADY reduced lactate level by dampening Streptococcus bovis and inducing greater Selenomonas ruminantium and Megasphaera elsdenii populations involved in lactate utilization. The serum urea nitrogen decreased, whereas glucose, albumin and total protein concentrations were increased with ADY supplementation. Conclusion: The results demonstrated dietary ADY improved ruminal fermentation dose-dependently. The ruminal lactate reduction through modification of lactate metabolic bacteria could be an important reason for rumen pH stabilization induced by ADY. ADY supplementation offered a complementary probiotics strategy in improving gluconeogenesis and nitrogen metabolism of beef cattle, potentially resulted from optimized rumen pH and fermentation.

Hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) is one of the hydrogen degradation phenomena of linepipe steels caused by $H_2S$ gas in the crude oil or natural gas. However, NACE TM0284-96 standard HIC test method is hard to satisfy the steel requirements for sour service application since it uses more severe environmental conditions than actual conditions. Therefore, in order to use steels effectively, it is required to evaluate HIC resistance of steels in the practical range of environmental severity. In this study, HIC resistance of two high strength low alloy (HSLA) steels being used as line pipe steels was evaluated in various test solutions with different $H_2S$ pressures and pH values. The results showed that the key parameter affecting crack area ratio (CAR) is $H_2S$ partial pressure of test solution when the pH value of test solution is not over 4. Hydrogen diffusivity was not a constant value, but it was rather affected by the hydrogen ion concentration (pH value) in the solution.
