A Study of Algorithm for Press Layout Setup using Product Design Data (제품 설계 데이터를 이용한 프레스 금형 레이아웃 설정을 위한 알고리즘에 관한 연구)

  • Today most companies are designing their automobile shapes by using 3 dimensional CAD software, CATIA. And they used to design 2 dimensional press dies to do some elastic work on their products, but they are currently trying to make use of 3 dimensional software, Pro-Engineer. In this case, they have to change the 3 dimensional product design data to the proper format data for the following process. This paper will show the data loss and the deformation during data transfer between CATIA and Pro-Engineer, and then suggest a solution for these problems. Product's surface will be automatically placed by automatic press tipping angle setting in CATIA to prevent the product from being stuck m the press die. The 2 dimensional section view which is based on the tipping angle setting is created by Z-map. And, to remove the data loss and the data deformation in Pro-Engineer, the product surface are delivered to the next process after it is changed to the 2 dimensional Z-map curves in CATIA. Finally, this paper suggests an algorithm to develop the automatic design program for the press layout which regenerates product shape surface from the previous process.

Magnetizing Analysis of a Convergence Purity Magnet using Preisach model and Finite Element Method (프라이자흐 모델과 유한요소법을 이용한 C.P.M의 착자 특성 해석)

  • This paper deals with the characteristic analysis of magnetizer for convergence purity magnet by the finite element method. The analysis utilizes combined method of the time-stepped finite element analysis and the Preisach model with hysteresis phenomena. In the finite element analysis, the non-linearity and the eddy current of the magnetizing fixure and permanent-magnet are taken account. The magnetization distribution in the permanent magnet is determined by using Preisach model which are composed of Everett function table and the first order transition curves is obtained by the Vibrating Sample Magnetometer. The calculated flux density values on the surface of the permanent magnet are led to the approximated gauss density values measured by the gauss meter. As a result, winding current, copper loss, eddy current loss of the magnetizing yoke, flux plot, surface gauss plot, temperature rise of the coil and resistor variation, vector diagram of magnetization distribution are shown.

  • The effect of size and mass fraction of SiC particulate on the fatigue and wear have been investigated for semi-liquid formed SiCp/AZ91HP Mg composites. In the study, different particulate sizes of 7, 20, $50 {\mu}m$ were prepared with various mass fraction for sample preparation. By tension-tension fatigue tests, whose procedures are standardized in ASTM standard 647E-93, the da/dN vs. ${\Delta}K$ curves were obtained. Also, the crack propagation paths were observed by optical microscope. As a result of wear test, specific wear loss is decreased with increasing mass fraction and particulate size. Specific wear loss of 30 mass% $50 {\mu}m$ SiC reinforced Mg composite is compared to SKD11.

  • A numerical method of calculating the performance of a scroll compressor for refrigerant R-22 and R-134a is presented in this paper. A series of involute curves are employed for the scroll wrap design and the compression volume is investigated geometrically. The radial leakage flow rate through tip clearance is calculated by the two-dimensional compressible flow. On the basis of the results, quasi one-dimensional leakage modeling can be applied to the performance analysis of a scroll compressor, more effectively. Furthermore, the heat transfer effect between scroll wrap and working fluid in compression chamber is considered for the performance analysis. As the results of this study, the effects of the radial and tangential leakage flow rate and heat transfer on the scroll compressor performance are derived precisely. These results may provide the guideline for the design and development of a real scroll compressor.

Performance-based earthquake engineering methodology for seismic analysis of nuclear cable tray system

  • The Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) Center has been developing a performance-based earthquake engineering (PBEE) methodology, which is based on explicit determination of performance, e.g., monetary losses, in a probabilistic manner where uncertainties in earthquake ground motion, structural response, damage estimation, and losses are explicitly considered. To carry out the PEER PBEE procedure for a component of the nuclear power plant (NPP) such as the cable tray system, hazard curve and spectra were defined for two hazard levels of the ground motions, namely, operation basis earthquake, and safe shutdown earthquake. Accordingly, two sets of spectral compatible ground motions were selected for dynamic analysis of the cable tray system. In general, the PBEE analysis of the cable tray in NPP was introduced where the resulting floor motions from the time history analysis (THA) of the NPP structure should be used as the input motion to the cable tray. However, for simplicity, a finite element model of the cable tray was developed for THA under the effect of the selected ground motions. Based on the structural analysis results, fragility curves were generated in terms of specific engineering demand parameters. Loss analysis was performed considering monetary losses corresponding to the predefined damage states. Then, overall losses were evaluated for different damage groups using the PEER PBEE methodology.

Thermal dehydration tests of FLiNaK salt for thermal-hydraulic experiments

  • Fluoride-salt-cooled High-temperature Reactor (FHR) is a promising nuclear reactor technology. Among many challenges presented by the molten fluoride salts is the corrosion of salt-facing structural components. Higher moisture contents, in the FLiNaK (LiF-NaF-KF, 46.5-11.5-42 mol%) salt, aggravate intergranular corrosion and pitting for the given alloys. Therefore, several thermal dehydration tests of FLiNaK salt were performed with a batch size suitable for thermal-hydraulic experiments. Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) was performed for the three constituent fluoride salts individually. Preliminary thermal dehydration plans were then proposed for NaF and KF salts based on the TGA curves. However, the dehydration process may not be required for LiF since its low mass loss (<1.3 wt%). To evaluate the performance of these thermal dehydration plans, a batch-scale salt dehydration test facility was designed and constructed. The preliminary thermal dehydration plans were tested by varying the heating rates, target temperature, and holding time. The sample mass loss data showed that the high temperatures (>500 ℃) were necessary to remove a significant amount of moisture (>1 wt%) from NaF salt, while relatively low temperatures (around 300 ℃) with a long holding time (>10 h) were sufficient to remove most of the moisture from KF salt.

Numerical analysis of heat dissipation performance of heat sink for IGBT module depending on serpentine channel shape (수치 해석을 통한 절연 게이트 양극성 트랜지스터 모듈의 히트 싱크 유로 형상에 따른 방열 성능 분석)

  • This study analyzed the effect on the cooling performance of the channel shape of a heat sink for an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). A serpentine channel was used for this analysis, and the parameter for the analysis was the number of curves. The analysis was conducted using computational fluid dynamics with the commercial software ANSYS fluent. One curve in the channel improved the heat dissipation performance of the heat sink by up to 8% compared to a straight-channel heat sink. However, two curves in the channel could not improve the heat discharge performance further. Instead, the two curves caused a higher pressure drop, which induces parasitic loss for the pumping of coolant. The pressure drop of the two-curve channel case was 2.48-2.55 times larger than that of a one-curve channel. This higher pressure drop decreased the heat discharge efficiency of the heat sink with two curves. The discharge heat per unit pressure drop was calculated, and the result of the straight heat sink was highest among the analyzed cases. This means that the heat discharge efficiency of the straight heat sink is the highest.

Annual Loss Probability Estimation of Steel Moment-Resisting Frames(SMRFs) using Seismic Fragility Analysis (지진취약도를 통한 철골모멘트골조의 연간 손실 평가)

  • The ultimate goal of seismic design is to reduce the probable losses or damages occurred during an expected earthquake event. To achieve this goal, this study represents a procedure that can estimate annual loss probability of a structure damaged by strong ground motion. First of all, probabilistic seismic performance assessment should be performed using seismic fragility analyses that are presented by a cumulative distribution function of the probability in each exceedance structural damage state. A seismic hazard curve is then derived from an annual frequency of exccedance per each ground motion intensity. An annual loss probability function is combined with seismic fragility analysis results and seismic hazard curves. In this paper, annual loss probabilities are estimated by the structural fragility curve of steel moment-resisting frames(SMRFs) in San Francisco Bay, USA, and are compared with loss estimation results obtained from the HAZUS methodology. It is investigated from the comparison that seismic losses of the SMRFs calculated from the HAZUS method are conservatively estimated. The procedure presented in this study could be effectively used for future studies related with structural seismic performance assessment and annual loss probability estimation.

  • With the rapid development of Internet and communication network technology, various studies had proceeded to develop the technology of wireless sensor networks. Authentication schemes for user and sensor are critical and important security issue to use wireless sensors legally. First, Das introduce a user authentication scheme using smart card and password for wireless sensor networks, various studies had proceeded. Chem et al. suggested a secure user authentication scheme against smart card loss attack but Chen et al. scheme does not still resolve some security vulnerability such as perfect forward secrecy, session key exposure by gateway node, anonymity, and the password check. To resolve the problems, this paper proposes a security enhanced user authentication using the fuzzy extraction, elliptic curves cryptography and dynamic ID and analyzes the security.

  • The decomposition of all the individual chemicals used in the Harwell inactive vitrification pilot plant has been studied by means of a thermal balance. Weight loss curves to 110$0^{\circ}C$ have been obtained. The four materials (sodium nitrate, cesium nitrate, lithium nitrate and ruthenium nitroso-nitrate solution) showed a greater weight loss than that based on an oxide yield, and hence these compounds of their products of decomposition are volatile below 110$0^{\circ}C$. The remaining materials suffered a weight loss no more than that corresponding to a full yield of the oxide, and hence they were not volatile below 110$0^{\circ}C$. Most of chemicals begin to decompose at less than 75$^{\circ}C$ but the nitrates of cesium, strontium, barium and sodium not until 295$^{\circ}C$ to 59$0^{\circ}C$. The results obtained can be used in the analysis of process conditions in the vitrification and calcination of highly radioactive wastes and also of the thermal decomposition behaviour of mixtures containing those materials.
