The dynamic output-feedback robust control method based on linear matrix inequality (LMI) method is presented for suppressing vibration response of a functionally graded material (FGM) beam with piezoelectric actuator/sensor layers in this paper. Based on the reduced model obtained by using direct mode truncation, the linear fractional state space representation of a piezoelectric FGM beam with material properties varying through the thickness is developed by considering both the inherent uncertainties in constitution material properties as well as material distribution and the model error due to mode truncation. The dynamic output-feedback robust H-infinity control law is implemented to suppress the vibration response of the piezoelectric FGM beam and the LMI method is utilized to convert control problem into convex optimization problem for efficient computation. In numerical studies, the flexural vibration control of a cantilever piezoelectric FGM beam is considered to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed control method. Compared with the efficient linear quadratic regulator (LQR) widely employed in literatures, the proposed robust control method requires less control voltage applied to the piezoelectric actuator in the case of same control performance for the controlled closed-loop system.

Multiferroic materials have attracted much attention due to their own fascinating fundamental physical properties and potential technological applications to magnetic/ferroelectric data storage systems, quantum electromagnets, spintronics, and sensor devices. Among single-phase multiferroic materials, $BiFeO_3$, in particular, has received considerable attention because the enhanced ferromagnetism was found by the Fe-site ion substitution with magnetic ions. The structural, the magnetic and the ferroelectric properties of polycrystalline $BiFe_{1-x}Ni_xO_3$ (x=0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.03 and 0.05), which were prepared by the solid-state reaction and the rapid-sintering method, have been investigated. The x-ray diffraction patterns reveal that all the samples are in single phase and show rhombohedral structure with R3c space group. The magnetic properties are enhanced according to the doping content. The Ni-doped $BiFeO_3$ samples exhibit lossy P-E loop due to the oxygen vacancy. The leakage current density of Ni-doped samples (x=0.01 and 0.02) is increased by four orders of magnitude. On the other hand, the x=0.03 and 0.05 samples show the relative reduction of the leakage current.
In this paper, a prototype of the auxiliary resonant commutated snubber circuit(ARCS) with a high frequency transformer power regeneration loop is described for voltage source type sinewave inverter system. This is a new soft switching topology developed for three phase voltage source soft-switching inverter, active power filter and reactive power compensator has significant advantage of current rating reduction for auxiliary active switching devices. In addition, this paper presents a novel prototype of voltage-source soft switching space vector-modulated inverter with ARCS mentioned above, which is more suitable and acceptable for high-power utility interactive power conditioning, along with a digital control scheme. The steady-state operating analysis of ARCS has the remarkable features and the practical design procedure of this resonant snubber are illustrated on the basis of computer simulation analysis. The operating performance evaluations in the steady-state of this three phase voltage source soft switching inverter are discussed and compared with the three phase voltage source hard switching inverter.
In this paper, a matrix converter with improved low frequency output performance is proposed by achieving a one-step commutation owing to a general commutation circuit applicable to n-phase to m-phase matrix converters. The commutation circuit consists of simple resister and capacitor components, leading to a very stable, reliable and robust operation. Also, it requires no extra sensing information to achieve commutation, allowing for a one-step commutation like a conventional dead time commutation. With the dead time commutation strategy applied, the distortion caused by commutation delay is analyzed and compensated, therefore leading to better output linear behavior. In this paper, detailed commutation procedures of the R-C commutation circuit are analyzed. A selection of specific semiconductor switches and commutation circuit components is also provided. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed commutation method is verified through a two-phase to single-phase matrix converter and the feasibility of the compensation approach is shown by an open loop space vector modulated three-phase matrix converter with a passive load.
This study presents a strategy using the synchronized output regulation method (SOR) for controlling inverters operating in stand-alone and grid-connected modes. From the view point of networked dynamic systems, SOR involves nodes with outputs that are synchronized but also display a desirable wave shape. Under the SOR strategy, the inverter and grid are treated as two nodes that comprise a simple network. These two nodes work independently under the stand-alone mode. An intermediate mode, here is named the synchronization mode, is emphasized because the transition from the stand-alone mode to the grid-connected mode can be dealt as a standard SOR problem. In the grid-connected mode, the inverter operates in an independent way, in which the voltage reference changes for generalized synchronization where its output current satisfies the required power injection. Such a relatively independent design leads to a seamless transfer between operation modes. The closed-loop system is analyzed in the state space on the basis of the output regulation theory, which improves the robustness of the design. Simulations and experiments are performed to verify the proposed control strategy.
In this paper, a direct current control method based on a one-cycle controller (DCOCC) for double frequency buck converters (DF buck) is proposed. This control method can make the average current through the high frequency and low frequency inductors of a DF buck converter equal. This is similar to the average current control method. However, the design of the loop compensator is much easier when compared with the average current control. Since the average current though the high frequency and low frequency inductors is equivalent, the current stress of the high frequency switches and the switch losses are minimized. Therefore, the efficiency of the DF buck converter is improved. Firstly, the operation principle of DCOCC is described, then the small signal models of a one cycle controller and a DF buck converter are presented based on the state space average method. Eventually, a system block diagram of the DCOCC controlled DF buck is established and the compensator is designed. Finally, simulation and experiment results are given to verify the correction of the theory analysis.
We propose a neuron computer for tracking motion of particles in multi-dimensional space. The neuron computer is constructed of neural networks and their connections, which is a simplified model of the brain. The neuron computer is assemblage of neural networks, it includes a control unit, and the actions of the unit are represented by instructions. We designed a neuron computer to recognize and predict motion of particles. The recognition unit is constructed of neuron-array, encoder, and control part. The neuron-array is a model of the retina, and particles crease an image on the array, where the image is binary. The encoder picks one particle from the array, and translates the particle's location to Cartesian coordinates, which is scaled in [0, 1] intervals. Next, the encoder picks another particle, and does same process. The ordering and reduction of complex processes are executed by instructions. The instructions are held in the control part. The prediction unit is constructed of a multi-layer neural network and a feedback loop, where real time learning is executed. The particles' future locations are forecasted by coordinate values. The neuron computer can chase maximum 100 particles that take evasions.

The paper describes a robust adaptive control algorithm for induction motor drive without speed sensor at low speed range. The control algorithm use only current sensors in a space vector pulse width modulation within loop control with rotor speed estimation and voltage source inverter. On-line rotor speed estimation is based on utilizing parallel model reference adaptive control system. MRAC of the modified flux model for flux and rotor speed estimator uses dual-adaptation mechanism, ${\omega}_r$ and ${\omega}_e$ scheme. The estimated flux components in the model can be compensated from the effects of offset errors on pure integrals. It can be compensated to the parameter variations and torque fluctuation with speed estimation in less then 10 rad/sec. In a simulation, the proposed induction motor control algorithm without speed sensor at very low speed range are shown to operate very well in spite of variable rotor time constant and fluctuating load without change the controller parameters. The suggested control strategy and estimation method have been validated by simulation study, and it proposed the designed system for the implementation using TI320C31 DSP/ASIC controller.

This paper describes the application of the variable structure control(VSC) concept for the position control of an electro-hydraulic servomotor system. The basic philosopy of VSC is that the structure of the feedback control is altered as the state crosses discontinuity surfaces in the state space with the result that certain desirable properties are achieved. The switching of the control function yields total(or selective) invariance to system parameter variations and disturbances, and closed loop eigen value placement in time-varing and uncertain systems. The control scheme is derived, implemented and tested in the laboratory where analog controller have been used to control the representive servosystem. The control system schematics are given and simple results are shown for illustration. And the results of variable structure system for the electro-hydraulic servomotor were compared to that of the fixed structure system when load disturbance and system parameter variation exists.
The object of this work is to study an optimal design problem of the proportional load-frequency controller for the single-control area power system. The selfservice power station is still a popular means as a power supplying source on ships or in a certain manufacturing area. The power system of this kind can be formulated as a single control-area system and it attracts a certain academic interest in controlling the system frequency under disturbances. In this paper, the single control-area system is mathematically formulated as a linear, time-invariant system in state-space under certain assumptions. The optimal proportional control law and the realization of the controller in closed loop-version is studied so that the final system designed can attain the system frequency to the nominal stationing value after the small load-disturbance. As in general cases of optimal design problems, the performance index is assumed to be quadratic in states and the control effort, and the infinite time control process is assumed in this work. The final control system realized depicts certain improvements in case study; in stability, transient responses and in steady-state frequency deviation, even though the steady state error did not attain the zero value.
