Bathymetric changes off the sea south of Jinwoo-do Island in the Nakdong River estuary (낙동강 하구역 진우도 남측 해역의 해저지형 변화)

  • Bathymetric changes were studied in the southern sea off the Jinwoo-do Island, which is one of the deltaic barrier islands surrounding the Nakddong river estuary. In this study, 16 bathymetry data sets were obtained from June 2006 to April 2015. Two narrow channels, the one lying between Jinwoo-do and Shinja-do, and the other one lying between Nulcha-do and Jinwoo-do extended into the eastern and western parts of the study area, respectively. The eastern extension of the channel contained a passage of mixed estuarine waters of seawater and river water discharged from the Nakdong river barrier and the west Nakdong River. The western channel connected the Nakdong River estuary with the Busan New Port via a connecting pier. Total volumetric changes of sediments in study area and discharge flow of the Nakdong river barrier were analyzed. Bottom topographical changes occurred mainly in the eastern extension of the channel. These changes were initially characterized by gradual erosion or deposition followed by rapid restoration. The total volume of sediment gradually increased from June 2006 to March 2013, but experienced a sudden decrease in October 2013 because of typhoon Danas. Few fluctuations were observed from October 2013 to April 2015. Analysis of the cross-sectional bathymetry of the north-south direction showed that the deepest point of the eastern channel moved 100-130 m westward and 200 m northward between June 2006 and April 2015.

Simulation Model Development for Configuring a Optimal Port Gate System (최적 항만 게이트 시스템 구성을 위한 시뮬레이션 모델 개발)

  • In this study, a gate simulation model was developed to reduce the truck waiting time for trucking companies servicing container terminals. To verify the developed model, 4 weeks of truck gate-in/gate-out data was collected in December 2014 at the Port of Busan New Port. Also, the existing gate system was compared to the proposed gate system using the developed simulation model. The result showed that based on East gate-in, a maximum number of 50 waiting trucks with a maximum waiting time of 120 minutes. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 10 with a maximum waiting time of 5.3 minutes. Based on West gate-in, the maximum number of waiting trucks was 17 and the maximum waiting time was 34 minutes in the existing gate system. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 10 with a maximum waiting time of 5.3 minutes. Based on West gate-out, the maximum number of waiting trucks was 11 with a maximum waiting time of 5.5 minutes. With the proposed system the maximum number of waiting trucks was 9 with a maximum waiting time of 4.4 minutes. This developed model shows how many waiting trucks there are, depending on the gate-in/gate-out time of each truck. This system can be used to find optimal gate system operating standards by assuming and adjusting the gate-in/gate-out time of each truck in different situations.

An Analysis of the Effectiveness of Social Path Using the Space Syntax Technique (Space syntax 기법을 활용한 Social Path 효과분석)

  • Pedestrians not only walk along pedestrian pathways, but also choose unusual routes such as passing through buildings or crossing large scale open spaces. This study defines these unusual paths as social path, and includes them into one of the pedestrian road categories. Previous pedestrian accessibility and route choice studies could not evaluate correctly the space connectivity or optimal route because the social path was not considered properly. Therefore, this study analyzes the effectiveness of the social path in view of space connectivity focused on Coex and Seoul stations in Seoul, which are representative transit oriented development(TOD) areas. Global integration, which is widely used in network analysis, is selected (as performance index) to identify the space hierarchy and define new pedestrian links. The study results show that the network connectivity is improved especially in the main streets and social paths. This study demonstrated that the social path should be considered in finding the pedestrian optimal route from the practical perspective.

Mechanism-based View of Innovative Capability Building in POSCO (메커니즘 관점에서 본 조직변신과 포스코의 혁신패턴 연구)

  • Purpose - Studies of mechanism as a competitive strategy, a relatively new field in the study of strategic management research, has recently drawn the attention of the business management scholars. The literature has so far proposed the subjective-based view, environment-based view, and the resource-based view in its analyses of firm management. Hence, it is highly likely for the firm management to be reasonably thought of as a combination of and interaction among the three key elements of subject, environment, and resources this is the mechanism-based view (MBV). It is reasonable to consider firm management to be the combination of and interaction among the three key elements of subject, environment, and resources. The overall dynamic process that integrates these three elements and creates functional harmony is identified as the mechanism, the principle of firm management. Much of the extant literatures on MBV has mainly focused on case studies, a qualitative approach prone to subjectivity of the researcher, although the intuition from the study may lead to meaningful insights into a firm-specific mechanism. This study's focus is also on case analysis, but it still attempts a quantitative approach in order to reach a scientific and systematic understanding of the MBV. Research design, data, and methodology - I used both a qualitative and quantitative approach to a single model, given the complexity of the innovation processes. I conducted in-depth interviews with POSCO employees-20 from general management, two from human resources, eight from information technology, five from finance and accounting, and five from production and logistics management. Once the innovative events were selected, the interview results were double-checked by the interviewees themselves to ensure the accuracy of the answers recorded. Based on the interview, I then conducted statistical validation using the survey results as well. Results - This study analyzes the building process of innovation and the effect of the mechanism pattern on innovation by examining the case of POSCO, which has survived over the past 21 years. I apply a new analytical tool to study mechanism innovation types, perform a new classification, and describe the interrelationships among the mechanism factors. This process allows me to see how the "Subject"factor interacts with the other factors. I found that, in the innovation process of the adoption stage, Subject had a mediating effect but that the mediating effect of resource and performance was smaller than the effect of Subject on performance alone. During the implementation stage, the mediating effect of Subject increased. Conclusion - Therefore, I have confirmed that the subject utilizes resources reasonably and efficiently. I have also advanced mechanism studies: whereas the field's research methods have been largely confined to single case studies, I have used both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine the relationships among mechanisms.

  • The main objective of this study is to determine the methodology to increase the practical use of future Marine GIS based on the user's point of view of the analysis of maritime & fishery government agencies's roles. GIS related job duty of two Busan District offices of MOMAF(Ministry of Maritime and Fisheries), NFRDI(National Fisheries Research & Development Institute), Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology and marine & fisheries local government offices of Busan Metropolitan city were analyzed for the establishment of MGIS, future extended service targeting user's increased practical utilization. Several suggestions in the area of production mechanism and technical policy for marine geographic information among the government agencies are developed to settle down successfully MGIS in Busan. Furthermore, 10 fields of Marine Geographic issues are rearranged for intending the desirable system and service.

A Study on the Change of Dominion in Russian Automotive Industry and Korea Port to Export Cars to the Russia (러시아 자동차 시장과 우리나라 수출항만 판도 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This paper aims to analyze the change of dominion in Russian automotive market and Korea port to export cars to the Russia. First, we provide the current market structure and growth potentials of Russian automotive industry by using literature reviews and data survey. Next, we analyze the current situation to export cars through the Korean seaports using the BCG (Boston Consulting Group)'s matrix method. The analysis shows that the Russian car market has growth potential. The result of expectation of Russian major car export's port within 3~5 years since the year 2013 shows that the Pohang Port will maintain current market share because it has higher market share and growth potential. On the contrary, the Guangyang Port, Busan Port, and Ulsan Port will lose the market share because of the low growth potential. Also, the Incheon Port will become the cash cow market because it has more than 10 percent market share and higher growth potential. To increase the car export volume of ports to Russian market, this paper proposes that we should provide a differentiated service to Russian port based on the analysis of domestic or foreign car export logistics structure and flow. For further study, EA-based framework should be applied for efficient and effective policies.

Structural Relationship among Personal Characteristics, Perception and Use Intention of Natural Burial (개인 특성별 자연장 인식과 이용의도 간의 구조적 관계)

  • Although the recent interest in and favor for natural burial has increased, there are still few who choose it as a funeral. The purpose of the study is to supply necessary information to promote the choice of natural burial. For this a survey of 430 students and residents was conducted in Daejeon. The result of the research is as follows. First, there is a significant difference in use intention of natural burial by age and religion. People under the age of 30 and Catholic believers recorded the highest score in use intention of natural burial. Second, there was a significant difference in information on natural burial by age or religion, in religion and philosophy by age, in physical environment by sex or age, and in conservation by sex or age. In general, the lower the age, the higher the positive perception of natural burial was. While females had a more positive perception of physical environment than males, males had a more positive perception of conservation than females. All sub factors of the perception of natural burial such as information on natural burial, funeral style, religion and philosophy, physical environment and conservation had a significant and positive effect on its use intention. However, ratio skew showed that religion and philosophy had the strongest effect on use intention of natural burial, followed by funeral style, physical environment, conservation, and information on natural burial.

A Study on the Competitiveness Improvement of Coastal Shipping for Northeast Asia Logistics-Hub (동북아(東北亞) 물류거점화(物流據點化)를 위한 연안해운(沿岸海運) 경쟁력(競爭力) 제고방안(提高方案)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • The purpose of this research is to present the improvement measure of lagging behind coastal shipping system to be a logistic hub-nation with a competitive edge. For this purpose, this research tries to find out major northeast asia environment factors and accordingly the effects of its. The effects of coastal shipping system's development strategy is analysed by structural equation model and multiple regression model. Research results show that three types of coastal shipping developing strategy(connected transportation system, structure of coastal shipping system, governmental support policy) will contribute much to be logistic hub-nation. The contribution effects is increasing cargo from strengthened feeder transport system and maximizing logistic service &minimizing logistic costs. From the result, some implications are derived as follow. First, familiar environmental balanced ocean-coastal transport system is required. Second the one-stop logistic service system is necessary to build excusive feeder port, and to establish Ro-Ro ship & high-speed ship, etc.. Third, governmental support policy and subsidy(tax exempted oil & various tax benefits) are required to bring up lagging behind coastal shipping system to be a logistic hub-nation with a competitive edge.

A Study on the Advance Transportation System for Inter Terminal Transshipment: Focused on the Busan New Port (타부두 환적화물에 적합한 운송수단에 관한 연구;부산항 신항을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify evaluation factors and analyze the relative importance among factors to select a suitable transportation method for transferring the increasing amount of transshipment at multiple terminals at the Busan new port. To accomplish this, the evaluation factors were selected through a literature survey and brainstorming of a group of experts associated with the port operation, and were classified into five major factors and 15 middle factors. The evaluation factors classified hierarchically were surveyed relative to workers in organizations such as shipping companies, port corporations, container terminals, and related ministries. The importance of each factor was calculated using the hierarchical analysis process (AHP). As a result of the importance analysis, priority was assigned in order of safety, productivity, investment efficiency, operational efficiency, and policy conformity. Through this, it was necessary to select a suitable transportation method for the transshipment cargo in terminals while focusing on the cargo and terminal security and preventing accidents. As a result of calculating from six ITT transportation candidates, the priority was determined in order of monorail, Autocon, and so on as ITT transportation suitable for the Busan new port..

  • This paper presents numerical results of static structural stability analysis in development of a vertical transfer device of a PRT(Personal Rapid Transit) vehicle. The vertical transfer of a fully occupied vehicle operating on a road network is the first attempt, which is expected to contribute to overcome the limitations of conventional 2-dimensional operation mode. In particular, the vertical transfer apparatus designed based on vertical circulating conveyors is capable of continuous transfer without time delay so that it enables to accommodate a high traffic density. This system has been frequently used in a logistics field; however, it is essential to assess a structural integrity because an external force by a vehicle weight is exerted on the conveyors in the form of a concentrated load unlike a conventional logistic transport. In this study, prior to the production process, the structural performance of the pilot design in an early stage is numerically evaluated using the commercial finite element method (FEM) solver (i.e., $Ansys^{(R)}$).
