  • In the paper, a hybrid technique is proposed for detecting the location and capacity of distributed generation (DG) sources like wind and photovoltaic (PV) in power system. The novelty of the proposed method is the combined performance of both the Biography Based Optimization (BBO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques. The mentioned techniques are the optimization techniques, which are used for optimizing the optimum location and capacity of the DG sources for radial distribution network. Initially, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is applied to obtain the available capacity of DG sources like wind and PV for 24 hours. The BBO algorithm requires radial distribution network voltage, real and power loss for determining the optimum location and capacity of the DG. Here, the BBO input parameters are classified into sub parameters and allowed as the PSO algorithm optimization process. The PSO synthesis the problem and develops the sub solution with the help of sub parameters. The BBO migration and mutation process is applied for the sub solution of PSO for identifying the optimum location and capacity of DG. For the analysis of the proposed method, the test case is considered. The IEEE standard bench mark 33 bus system is utilized for analyzing the effectiveness of the proposed method. Then the proposed technique is implemented in the MATLAB/simulink platform and the effectiveness is analyzed by comparing it with the BBO and PSO techniques. The comparison results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach and confirm its potential to solve the problem.

  • Lateral displacement in the most complex-shaped tall buildings is caused by eccentric gravity loads which are induced by the difference in location between a center of mass and a center of stiffness. The lateral displacements obtained from analysis, using conventional procedures, are prone to overestimate the actual values because much of realignment efforts made during construction phase are ignored. In construction sequence analysis, the self-leveling of slab and the verticality of columns/walls could be considered at each construction stage. Moreover, the displacement compensation can be achieved by manual process such as re-centering - locating to global coordinates through surveying. Because the lateral displacement increases with the building height, it is necessary to set up adjustment plan through construction stage analysis in advance in order to result in displacements less than the allowable limits. Because analytical solution includes lots of assumptions, the pre-adjusting displacement should be reasonably controlled with considerations for the uncertainty due to these assumptions.

  • The unified power flow controller(UPFC) is one of the most effective devices in the FACTS family. This paper concerns about a filtering technique for reducing the computer calculation to determine the optimal location of UPFC in a power system. The sensitivities of the power generation cost for UPFC control parameters are evaluated. This technique requires that only one optimal power flow is run to get UPFC sensitivities for all possible transmission lines. To find out a optimal locating of a single UPFC in power system, an ideal transformer model which consists of a complex turns ratio and a variable shunt admittance was used. In this model, the UPFC control variables do not depend on UPFC input and output currents and voltages. The sensitivity method was tested on a 5-bus system derived from the IEEE 14-bus system and IEEE 14-bus system to establish its effectiveness.

  • The concept of ‘Open Space’ is conceived to be very valuable subject of interest in developing modern settlement system. In Korea, many new and old residential sites have been developed or renewed to fulfil the housing demands. And such trends seem to continue for the time being. What is more, the requirments for more comfortable residential environments, that is deeply concerned with ‘Open Space’, inorease gradually. As a basis for designing more efficent residential environments to fit Korean morden life style, self - grown, traditional and agricultural villages are studied. This study is concenturated on the Open Space System with its socio - cultural and physical backgrounds. For this, data and materials are some widely collected and are analysed focused on the systems and structures of ‘Open Spaee’. Some results from this study are summarized as follow ; 1. It is assumed that the number of houses per village is around 60, and that its area reaches to the radious of 3-4km. 2. ‘POONGSU’is a generally adopted theory based on natural elements like mountians, waters, and orientations when locating villages and composing their spatial structures. As a result of this, the basic structures of villages and Open Space are defined. 3. Circulation system is integrated to the hierachyal order system ; that is, Passing Road \longrightarrowEntry Road\longrightarrowCentral Read\longrightarrowDisperse and Access Road. 4. The natural and agricultural land uses are overlapped with diverse outdoor activities - religious services, play and recreation, relaxation, etc - without any physical modification. 5. At each villages, several artificial and spot - like green facilities are found. And distinctive functions, meanings, and locationalities are given to each of them. On that, they become a visual and psychological centers of each village. 6. In addition to its basic function of circulation, Central Road takes the sence of place for outdoor activities. Because of this charactor, it plays an important role of activating the village life and binding the various Open Space elements.

  • This paper is the first part of the study on the development of a smart active layer (SAL) sensor, which consists of two parts. In this first part, the theory and concept of the SAL sensor is investigated, which is designed for the detection of elastic waves caused by internal cracks and damages in structures. For the development SAL sensor, (i) the basic theory of elastic waves was studied, (ii) the feasible study of the SAL as an elastic waves detection sensor using the finite element analysis (FEA) with respect to a piezoceramic disc was performed. (iii) the comparison of performances between some piezoceramic sensors and a commercial acoustic emission (AE) sensor was accomplished to ensure the applicability by the experimental means, such as a pencil lead break test. Also, the conceptional study for the SAL sensor, which can be utilized for the effective detection and locating of defects by the arrangement of regularly distributed sensors, was discussed.

  • Casts are often transferred to the articulator by arbitrary means, because the method of locating the true hinge axis point thought to be a complicated and time consuming procedure, and because the importance and significance of the true hinge axis in the construction of dental prosthesis is not sufficiently understood. In this report, the author constructed the hinge axis locator and determined the variations in location of the true hinge axis points from the location of the hinge axis point determined by arbitrary means. For this report, the procedure was followed on 50 persons with normal occlusion and sound T.M.J. function, so 100 true hinge axis points were recorded and compared with the arbitrary hinge axis point. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The mean distance from the arbitrary hinge axis point to the true hinge axis point was as follows. Right; (O)5.17mm., (V)3.44mm., (H)3.55mm.. Left; (O)5.63mm., (V)3.95mm., (H)3.51mm.. 2. The percentage of true hinge axis points classified at intervals of 2mm was as follows. 0-2mm; 4%, 2-4mm; 21%, 4-6mm; 37%, 6-8mm; 26%, 8-10mm; 10%, Over 10mm; 2%. And only 50% of the 100 true hinge axis points were located within a 5mm. radius of the arbitrary hinge axis point. 3. Instead of transferring the casts to the articulator by arbitrary means, the careful location of the true hinge axis points is recommended to avoid potential sources of error in mounting casts.

  • This study has the following two focuses to analyze the changes in national-level locational pattern of the U.S. professional sports franchises during 1950-2001. The first is to empirically clarify spatial orientation in the changing locational pattern of sports franchises. The second is to identify compared characteristics of the relocation cases reflecting the orientation to other cases, for the variables indicative of franchises' and leagues' pursuits of their relocation-related interests ultimately affecting franchises' relocations, by employing a legit model. As a result of the analyses, sports franchises and leagues, respectively have shown spatial orientation toward relocating to and toward locating new franchises in southern and western areas, responding to the changes in U.S. urbanization pattern. And, relocation cases reflecting the orientation have displayed a feature of the higher annual population growth rate in destination urban area than in origin area, in comparison to other cases.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the physical load by identifying harmfully working postures and to develop recommendations for improving the existing situation with nurses in ICU, thereby to provide the basis for development of work-related musculoskeletal preventive program. Method: Various types of tasks were recorded with a video camera to chart and analyze different postures by OWAS(Ovako Working Posture Analysing System). Collected data showed that poor postures were adopted, not only for lifting or repositoning a patient, but also for other tasks. Data Analysis: The performed activities were then divided into Nursing Intervention Classification. Altogether 128 postures were selected for analysis. Then they were classified into different OAC (OWAS Action Categories). From all the observation, unhealthy postures, for which corrective measures had to be considered immediately (i.e., 75% classified as OACII+III+IV) were found. Collected data were analyzed in terms of percentage, 2-tail Mann-Whitney U test. Result: Poor postures mainly occur during 'positioning the patient' and 'airway suctioning' in NIC. No difference was found (p=0.060) between the percentage of harmful posture adopted during the patient handling tasks and non-patient handling tasks. Conclusion: This study shows, that in the nursing profession with ICU not only occur during patient handling, but also during other activities. The OWAS method was useful in determining the physical load by locating potential activities due to harmfully working postures, providing a detailed description with analysis, and suggesting successful means to reduce postural load.

  • This study aims to investigate the changing trend of the industrial complexes in the region of Liege, Belgium. The accessibility to the expressway and to the central city, the favorable atmosphere of the community, and the pleasant natural environment are the important factors in locating the industrial complexes in suburban areas. Since the 1970s the industrial complexes are developed generally on a medium or small scale coexisting with manufacturing firms and service business, but the business parks, the service parks and the science parks are developed in some strategic places. The industrial complexes are filled up with relocated firms rather than new established firms, and the industrial structure is diversified with the increase of service business. As manufacturing firms emigrated from the central city to suburban areas, the central city suffers from some serious problems such as the increased unemployment, the decreased population, the appearance of industrial ruined spaces and the worse of finance by the decreased tax sources. The local government tries to solve these problems by enacting some policies in order to revive the manufacturing firms in the central city, but with little avail.

  • Objectives : Standardization and clear description of locating acupuncture points guarantees reproducibility and credibility of the results in animal studies of acupuncture points and meridians. In this study, we aimed at analyzing the acupoint description of the previous experimental studies and suggesting guidelines for related journals. Methods : We searched animal studies where acupuncture points were used in Journal of Korean Acupuncture & Moxibustion Society and Journal of Meridian & Acupoint with a limitation of period, from 2002 to 2006. Data on experimental animals, acupuncture points and their descriptions were extracted and put in a predefined form. They were classified as one of the 4 classes; A) descriptions of the acupuncture points present, B) no description of the acupuncture points and only reference provided, C) neither description of the acupuncture points nor reference provided, or D) acupuncture point detector used. Two authors independently extracted and classified the data and the disagreements were resolved by discussion. Experts were invited to rate acupuncture point description validity on a numeric rating scale in the 11-item questionnaire. Results : Two hundred and five studies were identified and classified as follows; A) 32.2% (n=66), B) 7.8% (n=16), C) 51.2% (n=105), and D) 8.8% (n=18). Experts ratings were significantly lower for class C (mean${\pm}$SD, 2.14${\pm}$1.35, 95% CI [1.90, 2.39], P = 0.004 compared with class B, P ${\leq}$ 0.001 compared with class A or C) and no difference was found between classes A, B, and D. Conclusions : Reporting of acupuncture points in experimental animals is poor and validity and reliability of the result from such reporting is hampered. We suggest that journal editors and experts provide guidelines for reporting animal acupuncture points and adopt them into guide for authors for related journals.
