  • Since officially assessed land price system was introduced, it has functioned as the criterion for establishing and implementing real estate policies. However, there is a controversial issue about the adequacy of the officially assessed land price system. The problem is that it is difficult to establish a statistical model due to too many land characteristics. Also, local economy, macroeconomic environments and development plans are not reflected in the land price evaluation model. Considering longitudinal and cross-sectional variables, a two-way error component panel model was used in this study. This analysis model includes variables reflecting land characteristics, macroeconomic volatility, and development project. The Paju LCD Industrial Complex was selected as a analysis area and an empirical analysis was performed. According to the analysis, the number of significant land characteristic variables were 14(31%) under 5% significance level. Macroeconomic volatility has had an influence on the land price and year variable reflecting development project has consistently been significant since the industrial complex was designated. Therefore, this study suggests that the land price evaluation model should be improved by simplifying land characteristic variables and including macroeconomic and regional economic variables.

  • IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol standard, DCF(CSMA/CA), is originally designed to ensure the fair channel access between mobile nodes sharing the local wireless channel. It has been, however, revealed that some misbehavior nodes transmit more data than other nodes through artificial means in hot spot area spreaded rapidly. The misbehavior nodes may modify the internal process of their MAC protocol or interrupt the MAC procedure of normal nodes to achieve more data transmission. This problem has been referred to as a selfish node problem and almost literatures has proposed methods of analyzing the MAC procedures of all mobile nodes to detect the selfish nodes. However, these kinds of protocol analysis methods is not effective at detecting all kinds of selfish nodes enough. This paper address this problem of detecting selfish node using Tsallis-Entropy which is a kind of statistical method. Tsallis-Entropy is a criteria which can show how much is the density or deviation of a probability distribution. The proposed algorithm which operates at a AP node of wireless LAN extracts the probability distribution of data interval time for each node, then compares the one with a threshold value to detect the selfish nodes. To evaluate the performance of proposed algorithm, simulation experiments are performed in various wireless LAN environments (congestion level, how selfish node behaviors, threshold level) using ns2. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves higher successful detection rate.

  • Recently, various attempts have been made to apply Intelligent Transportation System under various environments and conditions. Consequently, an accurate license plate recognition regardless of vehicle location and viewing angle is required. In this paper, we propose a novel license plate recognition system which exploits a) the format of license plates to remove false candidates of license plates and to extract characters in license plates and b) the characteristics of Hangul for accurate character recognition. In order to eliminate false candidates of license plates, the proposed method first aligns the candidates of license plates horizontally, and compares the position and the shape of objects in each candidate with the prior information of license plates provided by Korean Ministry of Construction & Transportation. The prior information such as aspect ratio, background color, projection image is also used to extract characters in license plates accurately applying an improved local binarization considering luminance variation of license plates. In case of recognizing Hangul in license plates, they are initially grouped according to their shape similarity. Then a super-class method, a hierarchical analysis based on key feature points is applied to recognize Hangul accurately. The proposed method was verified with high recognition rate regardless of background image, which eventually proves that the proposed LPR system has high performance regardless of the vehicle location or viewing angle.

  • For the purpose of investigation the local characteristics of the nutrient status in the Japanese cedar in Cheju island, the author have carried out chemical analysis of the soils and needles of established Japanese ceder forests in four site quality classified by height growth. Results were summarized as follows. 1. Site quality was related closely to exch. Ca, exch. Mg in the surface soil and to N, K and Ca concentrations in the needle. 2. Appropriate concentration of nutrients in the surface soil and current year's needles are exch. Ca>4.0(me/100g), exch. Mg>2.0(me/100g) and N>1.5(%), K>0.8(%), Ca>1.5(%). 3. In addition, the Ca : Mg : Na ratio of the exch. cation(me/100g) may be useful as an indicator in the assesment of site quality of Japanese cedar forests in Cheju island.

  • We suggest a graphical representation of the tension flow in tonal music using a piecewise parametric curve, which is a function of time illustrating the changing degree of tension in a corresponding chord progression. The tension curve can be edited by using conventional curve editing techniques to reharmonize the original music with reflecting the user's demand to control the tension of music. We introduce three different methods to measure the tension of a chord in terms of a specific key, which can be used to represent the tension of the chord numerically. Then, by interpolating the series of numerical tension values, a tension curve is constructed. In this paper, we show the tension curve editing method can be effectively used in several interesting applications: enhancing or weakening the overall feeling of tension in a whole song, the local control of tension in a specific region of music, the progressive transition of tension flow from source to target chord progressions, and natural connection of two songs with maintaining the smoothness of the tension flow. Our work shows the possibility of controlling the perceptual factor (tension) in music by using numerical methods. Most of the computations used in this paper are not expensive so they can be calculated in real time. We think that an interesting application of our method is an interactive modification of tension in background music according to the user's emotion or current scenario in the interactive environments such as games.

  • A seawater pipe of the engine room in the ships is being surrounded with severely corrosive environments caused by fast flowing of the seawater, containing aggressive chloride ion and high conductivity etc.. Therefore, the leakage of the seawater from its pipe have been often occurred due to its local corrosion by aggressive chloride ions. Subsequently, its leakage area is usually welded by AC shielded metal arc welding with various electrodes. In this study, when the sea water pipe is welded with several types of electrodes such as E4301, E4311, E4313 and E4316, a difference of the corrosion resistance on the welding metal zones was investigated using an electrochemical method, observing microstructure, measuring polarization behaviors and hardness. The weld metal zone welded with E4313 electrode exhibited the lowest value of hardness compared to other weld metal zones. In addition, its zone indicated also the best corrosion resistance than those of other weld metal zones. Furthermore, all of the weld metal zones revealed a relatively better corrosion resistance than those of the base metal zones. and also showed higher hardness than the base metal zones.

  • To predict changes in the marine environment of the Beolgyo Stream Estuary in Jeonnam Province, South Korea, where cohesive tidal flats cover a broad area and a large bridge is under construction, this study conducted numerical simulations involving tidal flow and cohesive sediment transport. A wetting and drying (WAD) technique for tidal flats from the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) was applied to a large-scale-grid hydrodynamic module capable of evaluating the flow resistance of structures. Derivation of the eddy viscosity coefficient for wakes created by structures was accomplished through the explicit use of shear velocity and Chezy's average velocity. Furthermore, various field observations, including of tide, tidal flow, suspended sediment concentrations, bottom sediments, and water depth, were performed to verify the model and obtain input data for it. In particular, geologic parameters related to the evaluation of settling velocity and critical shear stresses for erosion and deposition were observed, and numerical tests for the representation of suspended sediment concentrations were performed to determine proper values for the empirical coefficients in the sediment transport module. According to the simulation results, the velocity variation was particularly prominent around the piers in the tidal channel. Erosion occurred mainly along the tidal channels near the piers, where bridge structures reduced the flow cross section, creating strong flow. In contrast, in the rear area of the structure, where the flow was relatively weak due to the formation of eddies, deposition and moderated erosion were predicted. In estuaries and coastal waters, changes in the flow environment caused by artificial structures can produce changes in the sedimentary environment, which in turn can affect the local marine ecosystem. The numerical model proposed in this study will enable systematic prediction of changes to flow and sedimentary environments caused by the construction of artificial structures.

  • On an absolute straw diet, the effect of graded levels of green grass supplementation on intake, nutrient digestibility, rumen fermentation pattern and microbial N yield has been studied in cattle. Of the two trials conducted, 16 intact growing bulls of 304 kg weight and 32 months old, randomly allocated to four treatments in a completely randomized design in the 1st trial. While, in the, 2nd trial, four rumen cannulated local bulls of about 60 months old and 400 kg weight were used in a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design with four treatments in four periods. In both the trials, in addition to a mineral mixture, animals were supplemented with graded levels of naturally grown green grass of 0 kg (T1), 2 kg (T2), 4 kg (T3) or 6 kg (T4) to an ad libitum rice straw diet In the 1st trial, measurements were made on intake digestibility, growth rate, N balance and microbial N yield. While in the 2nd trial, in addition to the above parameters (except growth rate), rumen parameters were also studied. All levels of grass supplementation decreased the straw DM intake and increased the substitution rate. The rumen $NH_3-N$ concentration increased with the increase in grass level and ranges from 8-46 mg/l. The rumen pH and the rate and extent of DM degradability of straw were not affeceted by different rumen environments created by different levels of grass inclusion. At 48 h, straw DM degradability were 42, 44, 44 and 43% respectively for 0, 2, 4 and 6 kg grass supplementation daily. The whole gut digestibilities of DM, OM and ADF increased significantly (p < 0.05) only at 6 kg level daily. The microbial N yield was not affected by the levels of grass supplemented. The mean microbial N yield was 10 (SD 3.7) g/kg DOM apparently fermented in the rumen. The estimated minimum N loss and thus the maintenance requirement of tissue protein was 303 mg/kg $W^{0.75}/d$. All the animals lost live weight but 6 kg grass supplementation gave positive energy and N balances. Small amount of green grass supplementation is often recommended for optimization of rumen environment of a straw diet However, under the present experimental condition, no such beneficiary effect observed up to 6 kg (26% of DM intake) level of supplementation.

  • With the rapid development of internet technology, the number of internet users and the amount of multimedia information on the internet is ever increasing. Recently, the web sites, such as e-business sites and shopping mall sites, deal with lots of image information. As a result, it is required to support content- based image retrieval efficiently on such image data. This paper proposes an intelligent image retrieval system, which adopts XML, technology. To support object-based col)tent retrieval on product catalog images containing multiple objects, we describe a multi -level metadata structure which represents the local features, global features, and semantics of image data. To enable semantic-based and content-based retrieval on such image data, we design a XML-Schema for the proposed metadata and show how to represent such metadata using XML- documents. We also describe how to automatically transform the retrieval results into the forms suitable for the various user environments, such as web browser or mobile browser, using XSLT The proposed scheme can be easily implemented on any commercial platforms supporting XML technology. It can be utilized to enable efficient image metadata sharing between systems, and it will contribute in improving the retrieval correctness and the user's satisfaction on content-based e-catalog image retrieval.

  • Shipwreck remains below the seabed not only effect the ocean currents and tides, but influence the physical properties of sediments and sedimentary environments that comprise the seabed. In particular, the influence of local shipwrecks discovered buried in the seabed on the sediment is visible. In this study, sediments were collected from the surrounding area of Taean Mado No.3 shipwreck using grab samplers and vibro-corers. The physical properties of these sediments were analyzed to evaluate the impact of the Taean Mado shipwreck No.3 remains. Sediment core analysis by means of density and ultrasonic velocity showed that shear strength tended to increase with depth, whereas moisture content and porosity tended to decrease with depth. Grain size analysis results are shown in terms of Folk's classification, where the grain size of the core samples in the study area indicate mud or sandy mud, and that of the grab sample indicates a muddy sand. Results of the sedimentation rate analysis indicate a rate of 2.84 cm/year and carbon dating of the 150 cm deep seashell indicates the Neolithic age. These sediments were analyzed for the study of the relationship between the Taean Mado shipwreck No.3 remains and the physical properties of the sediment.
