  • We present a unified local and semilocal convergence analysis for secant-type methods in order to approximate a locally unique solution of a nonlinear equation in a Banach space setting. Our analysis includes the computation of the bounds on the limit points of the majorizing sequences involved. Under the same computational cost our semilocal convergence criteria can be weaker; the error bounds more precise and in the local case the convergence balls can be larger and the error bounds tighter than in earlier studies such as [1-3,7-14,16,20,21] at least for the cases of Newton's method and the secant method. Numerical examples are also presented to illustrate the theoretical results obtained in this study.

  • We present a new local as well as a semilocal convergence analysis for Steffensen's method in order to locate fixed points of operators on a Banach space setting. Using more precise majorizing sequences we show under the same or less computational cost that our convergence criteria can be weaker than in earlier studies such as [1-13], [21, 22]. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the theoretical results.

  • In this work we study the local and semilocal convergence of the relaxed Newton's method, that is Newton's method with a relaxation parameter 0 < ${\lambda}$ < 2. We give a Kantorovich-like theorem that can be applied for operators defined between two Banach spaces. In fact, we obtain the recurrent sequence that majorizes the one given by the method and we characterize its convergence by a result that involves the relaxation parameter ${\lambda}$. We use a new technique that allows us on the one hand to generalize and on the other hand to extend the applicability of the result given initially by Kantorovich for ${\lambda}=1$.

  • We introduce a new two-point iterative method to approximate solutions of nonlinear operator equations. The method uses only divided differences of order one, and two previous iterates. However in contrast to the Secant method which is of order 1.618..., our method is of order two. A local and a semilocal convergence analysis is provided based on the majorizing principle. Finally the monotone convergence of the method is explored on partially ordered topological spaces. Numerical examples are also provided where our results compare favorably to earlier ones [1], [4], [5], [19].

  • We provide local and semilocal theorems for the convergence of Newton-like methods to a locally unique solution of an equation in a Banach space. The analytic property of the operator involved replaces the usual domain condition for Newton-like methods. In the case of the local results we show that the radius of convergence can be enlarged. A numerical example is given to justify our claim . This observation is important and finds applications in steplength selection in predictor-corrector continuation procedures.

  • We present a new theorem for the semilocal convergence of Newton's method to a locally unique solution of an equation in a Banach space setting. Under a gamma-type condition we show that we can extend the applicability of Newton's method given in [12]. We also provide a comparative study between results using the classical Newton-Kantorovich conditions ([6], [7], [10]), and the ones using the gamma-type conditions ([12], [13]). Numerical examples are also provided.

  • We present local and semilocal convergence results for New-ton's method in a Banach space setting. In particular using Lipschitz-type assumptions on the second Frechet-derivative we find results con-cerning the radius of convergence of Newton's method. Such results are useful in the context of predictor-corrector continuation procedures. Finally we provide numerical examples to show that our results can ap-ply where earlier ones using Lipschitz assumption on the first Frechet-derivative fail.

  • The semilocal convergence of the secant method under $H{\ddot{o}}lder$ continuous divided differences in a Banach space setting for solving nonlinear equations has been examined by us in [3]. The local convergence was recently examined in [4]. Motivated by optimization considerations and using the same hypotheses but more precise estimates than in [4] we provide a local convergence analysis with the following advantages: larger radius of convergence and finer error estimates on the distances involved. The results can be used for projection methods, to develop the cheapest possible mesh refinement strategies and to solve equations involving autonomous differential equations [1], [4], [7], [8].

  • Using more precise majorizing sequences we provide a finer convergence analysis than before [1], [7] of Newton's method in Riemannian manifolds with the following advantages: weaker hypotheses, finer error bounds on the distances involved and a more precise information on the location of the singularity of the vector field.

  • A semi local convergence analysis is provided for Newton's method in a Banach space setting. The operators involved are only locally Holderian. We make use of a point-based approximation and center-Holderian hypotheses. This approach can be used to approximate solutions of equations involving nonsmooth operators.
