Modified singular fracture process zone(S-FPZ) model is proposed in this paper to determine a fracture criterion for continuous crack propagation in concrete. The investigated fracture properties of the proposed fracture model are strain energy release rate at a micro-crack tip and the relationship between crack closure stress(CCS) and crack opening displacement(COD) in the FPZ. The proposed model can simulate the actual fracture energy of experimental results fairly well. The results of the experimental data analysis show that specimen geometry and loading condition did not affect the CCS-COD relation. However, the strain energy release rate is a function of not only specimen geometry but also crack extension. The strain energy release rate remained constantly at the minimum value up to the crack extension of 25 mm, and then it increased linearly to the maximum value. The maximum fracture criterion occurred at the peak load for specimens of large size. The fracture criterion remained at the maximum value after the peak load. The variation of the fracture criterion is caused by micro-cracking and micro-crack localization. The fracture criterion of strain energy release rate can simply be the size effect of concrete fracture, and it can be used to quantify the micro-cracking and micro-crack localizing behavior of concrete.
The research of applying reinforced retaining wall due to support the land pressure that given from train's load has been accomplished actively in domestic area. After the retaining wall has been installed, the collapse or partial destruction that generated by effect of train's vibration and repetitive load of train may be induced. Accordingly in the period of using this, the sufficient durability should be guaranteed and years of durability are one hundred and as these are longer than road structure's, the technique that introduced to wall and monitor the long-term strain is necessary. In this paper, the optical fibre is induced vertically to the reinforced retaining wall and after the subsistence of optical fibre is confirmed, the early strain that applied to optical fibre after insertion is monitored. Before and after the concrete placing, damage feasibility of optical fibre is measured by using OTDR(Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) and after concrete is cultivated, the early strain induced to optical fibre is measured by application of BOCDA (Brillouin Correlation Domain Analysis) system.
The rubber materials are widely used in automobile industry due to their capability of a large amount of elastic deformation under a force. Current trend of design process requires prediction of functional properties of parts at early stage. The behavior of rubber material can be modeled using strain energy density function. In this study, five different strain energy density functions - Neo-Hookean model, Reduced Polynomial $2^{nd}$ model, Ogden $3^{rd}$ model, Arruda Boyce model and Van der Waals model - were used to estimate the behavior of carbon black added natural rubber under uniaxial load. Two kinds of tests - uniaxial tension test and biaxial tension test - were performed and used to correlate the coefficients of the strain energy density function. Numerical simulations were carried out using finite element analysis and compared with experimental results. Simulation revealed that Ogden $3^{rd}$ model predicted the behavior of carbon added natural rubber under uniaxial load regardless of experimental data selection for coefficient correlation. However, Reduced Polynomial $2^{nd}$, Ogden $3^{rd}$, and Van der Waals with uniaxial tension test and biaxial tension test data selected for coefficient correlation showed close estimation of behavior of biaxial tension test. Reduced Polynomial $2^{nd}$ model predicted the behavior of biaxial tension test most closely.
In this paper, the buckling, and free vibration analysis of tapered functionally graded carbon nanotube reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) micro Reddy beam under longitudinal magnetic field using finite element method (FEM) is investigated. It is noted that the material properties of matrix is considered as Poly methyl methacrylate (PMMA). Using Hamilton's principle, the governing equations of motion are derived by applying a modified strain gradient theory and the rule of mixture approach for micro-composite beam. Micro-composite beam are subjected to longitudinal magnetic field. Then, using the FEM, the critical buckling load, and natural frequency of micro-composite Reddy beam is solved. Also, the influences of various parameters including ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ (the constant coefficients to control the thickness), three material length scale parameters, aspect ratio, different boundary conditions, and various distributions of CNT such as uniform distribution (UD), unsymmetrical functionally graded distribution of CNT (USFG) and symmetrically linear distribution of CNT (SFG) on the critical buckling load and non-dimensional natural frequency are obtained. It can be seen that the non-dimensional natural frequency and critical buckling load decreases with increasing of ${\beta}$ for UD, USFG and SFG micro-composite beam and vice versa for ${\alpha}$. Also, it is shown that at the specified value of ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$, the dimensionless natural frequency and critical buckling load for SGT beam is more than for the other state. Moreover, it can be observed from the results that employing magnetic field in longitudinal direction of the micro-composite beam increases the natural frequency and critical buckling load. On the other hands, by increasing the imposed magnetic field significantly increases the stability of the system that can behave as an actuator.
This research studies the dynamic analysis of a concrete column reinforced with titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) nanoparticles under earthquake load. The effect of nanoparticles accumulation in a region of concrete column is examined using Mori-Tanaka model. The structure is simulated mathematically based on the theory of sinusoidal shear deformation theory (SSDT). By calculating strain-displacement and stress-strain relations, the system energies include potential energy, kinetic energy, and external works are derived. Then, using the Hamilton's principle, the governing equations for the structure are extracted. Using these equations, the response of the concrete column under earthquake load is investigated using the numerical methods of differential quadrature (DQ) and Newark. The purpose of this study is to study the effects of percentage of nanoparticles, nanoparticles agglomeration, geometric parameters and boundary conditions on the dynamic response of the structure. The results indicate that by increasing the volume percent of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles, the maximum dynamic deflection of the structure decreases.
Sand Compaction Pile (SCP) is a soft-ground improvement technique used for not only accelerating consolidation but also increasing bearing capacity of soils. In this study, laboratory tests and 3-D finite element analysis were peformed to investigate the characteristics of load transfer in SCP with an emphasis on free-strain behavior of piles with low replacement ratios in the range of 30 to $50\%$. Through these focused tests and numerical analyses, we proposed a simplified method to analyze the load transfer characteristics of SCP in soft ground. Moreover, it was shown that estimated normal stresses in SCP using the proposed method were in a reasonable agreement with actual values.

The reinforced concrete slab is one of main structure members in the construction industry sector. However, most of researches regarding to RC slabs have been focused on two-dimensional Mindlin-type plate element on the basis of laminated plate theory since three-dimensional solid element has a lot of difficulties in finite element formulation and costs in CPU time. In reality, the RC slabs are subjected to dynamic loads like a heavy traffic vehicle load, and thus should insure the safety from the static load as well as dynamic load. Once we can estimate the dynamic behaviour of RC slabs exactly, it will be very helpful for design of it. In this study, the 20-node solid element has been used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of RC slabs with clamped edges. The elasto-visco plastic model for material non-linearity and the smeared crack model have been adopted in the finite element formulation. The applicability of the proposed finite element has been tested for dynamic behaviour of RC slabs with respect to characteristics of concrete materials in terms of cracking stress, crushing strain, fracture energy and Poisson's ratio. The effect on dynamic behaviour is dependent on not crushing strain but cracking stress, fracture energy and Poisson's ratio. In addition to this, it is shown the damping phenomenon of RC slabs has been identified from the numerical results by using Rayleigh damping.
This study generalizes the lateral load-displacement relationship of reinforced concrete shear walls from the section analysis for moment-curvature response to straightforwardly evaluate the flexural capacity and ductility of such members. Moment and curvature at different selected points including the first flexural crack, yielding of tensile reinforcing bar, maximum strength, 80% of the maximum strength at descending branch, and fracture of tensile reinforcing bar are calculated based on the strain compatibility and equilibrium of internal forces. The strain at extreme compressive fiber to determine the curvature at the descending branch is formulated as a function of reduction factor of maximum stress of concrete and volumetric index of lateral reinforcement using the stress-strain model of confined concrete proposed by Razvi and Saatcioglu. The moment prediction models are simply formulated as a function of tensile reinforcement index, vertical reinforcement index, and axial load index from an extensive parametric study. Lateral displacement is calculated by using the moment area method of idealized curvature distribution along the wall height. The generalized lateral load-displacement relationship is in good agreement with test result, even at the descending branch after ultimate strength of shear walls.

Columns are the key elements supporting load in structure. Column failure causes the structure to collapse. It is important to evaluate residual strength for damaged columns under blast load for preventing progressive collapse. In this paper, columns were investigated to compare the blast resistance on the change of the number of steel bars within the range of reinforcement ratio. And this study was carried out 4 different analytical models to evaluate effects of aspect ratio. The results indicate that the vertical strain was unaffected by the number of steel bars and aspect ratio. As the number of steel bars facing blast load increase, the blast resisting capacity of the columns was improved in the lateral strain. Also, the analysis results showed that a large moment of inertia of area, as compared to a small one would be superior in residual strength as well as force of restitution.

A method of analysis for the material and geometric nonlinear analysis of planar prestressed concrete cable-stayed bridges including the time-dependent effects due to load history, creep, shrinkage, aging of concrete and relaxation of prestress is described. The analysis procedure, based on the finite element method, is capable of predicting the response of these structures through elastic, cracking, inelastic and ultimate ranges. The nonlinear formulation for the description of motion is based on the updated Lagrangian approach. To account for the material nonlinearity, nonlinear stress-strain relationship and cracking of concrete, nonlinear stress-strain relationships of reinforcing steel, prestressing steel, and cable, including load reversal are given. Results from a numerical examples on ultimate analyses of cable-stayed bridges are presented to illustrate the analysis method.
