  • The following is the result of experiment on consolidation test under various load increment ratios by alternation of standard load increment ratio. The more load increment ratio was, the more settlement was resulted. But expansions were not associated with load increment ratios. Primary consolidation took longer period to complete as load increment ratio was decreased. And under the condition of over-consolidated range, the completion of primary consolidation took longer period as the load was incremented. Under the condition of normal consolidated range, there was no change in time of completing primary consolidation. The coefficient of consolidation was decreased with increment of consolidation load, and the coefficient of consolidation had high values as the load increment ratio was increased. The values of ratio of secondary consolidation was highest near the transition point of consolidation curve.

  • reliability from components reliability. In this case, it assumes that components failure is mutually independent, but it may not true in real systems. In this study, the mean cost per unit time is computed as the ratio of mean life to the mean cost. The mean life is obtained by the reliability function under power rule model. The mean cost is obtained by the mathematical model based on the inspection interval. A heuristic method is proposed to determine the optimal number of redundant units and the optimal inspection interval to minimize the mean cost per unit time. The assumptions of this study are as following : First, in the load-sharing k-out-of-n:G system, total loads are applied to the system and shared by the operating components. Secondly, the number of failed components affects the failure rate of surviving components as a function of the total load applied. Finally, the relation between the load and the failure rate of surviving components is set by the power rule model. For the practical application of the above methods, numerical examples are presented.

  • The compatibility of concrete repairs is proposed by D. Cusson et al. and N. K. Emberson et al. But this is the general compatibility of concrete repairs. This study is actualized the general compatibility of concrete repairs on the flexural specimen under bending load. This study is obtained following results. 1) As a results of analysis for repair effects on failure shape, debonding between concrete and repairs, yielding load and ultimate/yielding ratio, the repair effects is ascertained that the repair R3 is much excellent than the repair R7, but on the other hand R7 is very high than R3 on the viewpoint of compressive strength, where repair R7, R3 is a product. 2) Therefore the compatibility of concrete repair proposed by D. Cusson et al. and N. K. Emberson et al. must be reanalyzed for structures types of column, beam, wall, slab et al.

A Study on the Optimal Load Shedding Considering Alleviation of the Line Overload (선로과부하해소를 고려한 최적부하간단에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a method for optimal load shedding in preserving a system security following abnormal condition as well as a sudden major supply outage. The method takes account of static characteristic of generators control and voltage and system frequency characteristic of loads. The optimization problem is solved by a gradient technique to get the maximal effect by the least quantity of load shedding considering line overloads as well as voltage disturbances and system frequency. The method is illustrated on a 8-bus system. It has been found that the use of the proposed algorithm for model systems alleviate the line overload more efficiently than the former method. It is believed that this method will be useful in security studies and operational planning.

  • The paper describes the work of the IAWE Working Group WBG - Reliability and Code Level, one of the International Codification Working Groups set up at ICWE10 in Copenhagen. The following topics are covered: sources of uncertainties in the design wind load, appropriate design target values for the exceedance probability of the design wind load for different structural classes with different consequences of a failure, yearly exceedance probability of the design wind speed and specification of the design aerodynamic coefficient for different design purposes. The recommendations from the working group are summarized at the end of the paper.

  • The conventional loading process of workpieces for a CNC lathe is performaed either by human or by a general robot. It is not suitable for a general robot to load workpieces because of high price and inefficiency. Starting from the description of the environment around CNC lathes and the analysis ofloading process, we have developed the task-oriented loading manipulator. The characteristics of a loading manipulator are the following: to load/unload heavy workpieces, to decrease the whole porcess time. The air-chuck to load heavy workpiece has high clamping force and light weight. A loading manipulator has accomplished both the integration of independent automation techniques and cost-down effect of product. A loading manupulator developed in this project has been designed for general loading process. The loading manipulator is capable of carrying heavy payload with respect to weight of robot in short cycle time.

  • This paper is concerned with a computational approach for topology optimization of geometrically nonlinear structures following specific load-displacement trajectories. In our previous works, attention was paid to stabilize topology optimization involving large displacement and a method called the element connectivity parameterization was developed. Here, we aimed to extend the element connectivity parameterization method to find an optimal geometrically nonlinear structure yielding a specific load-displacement trajectory. In contrast to designing a stiffest structure, the trajectory design problem requires special consideration in topology optimization formulation and solution procedure. Some numerical problems were considered to test the developed element connectivity parameterization based formulation.

  • To estimate the cooling load for the following day, outdoor temperature and humidity are needed in hourly base. But the meteorological administration forecasts only maximum and minimum temperature. New methodology is proposed for predicting hourly outdoor temperature and humidity by using the forecasted maximum and minimum temperature. The correlations for normalized outdoor temperature and specific humidity has been derived from the weather data for five years at Seoul, Daejeon and Pusan. The correlations for normalized temperature are independent of date, while the correlations for specific humidity are linearly dependent on date. The predicted results show fairly good agreement with the measured data. The prediction program is also developed for hourly outdoor dry bulb temperature, specific humidity, dew point, relative humidity, enthalpy and specific volume.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a new structural system for precast deck plate bridge. In order to investigate load distribution and composite effects by connecting diaphragms and precast deck plate to main girder with shear keys, computer analysis with F.E.M S/W package program ADINA was carried out. As results of analysis, the following could be concluded : -The distance between diaphragms with6m is suficient for crossing load distribution effects. -The composite effects by connection deck plate to main girder with shear key is reasonable. -The gap between deck plate and main girder under given load is negligible.
