Impact of Climate Change on Water Cycle and Soil Loss in Daecheong Reservoir Watershed (기후변화에 따른 대청호 유역의 물 순환 및 토양 유실량 영향)

  • The study was aimed to assess the expected impact of climate change on the water cycle and soil losses in Daecheong Reservoir watershed, Korea using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) that was validated for the watershed in a previous study. Future climate data including precipitation, temperature and humidity generated by introducing a regional climate model (Mesoscale Model Version 5, MM5) to dynamically downscale global circulation model (European Centre Hamburg Model Version 4, ECHAM4) were used to simulate the hydrological responses and soil erosion processes in the future 100 years (2001~2100) under the Special Report on Emissions Scenario (SRES) A1B. The results indicated that the climate change may increase in the amount of surface runoff and thereby sediment load to the reservoir. Spatially, the impact was relatively more significant in the subbasin Bocheongcheon because of its lower occupation rate of forest land compared to other subbasins. Seasonally, the increase of surface runoff and soil losses was more significant during late summer and fall season when both flood control and turbidity flow control are necessary for the reservoir and downstream. The occurrence of extreme turbidity flow events during these period is more vulnerable to reservoir operation because the suspended solids that remained water column can be resuspended by vertical mixing during winter turnover period. The study results provide useful information for the development of adaptive management strategy for the reservoir to cope with the expected impact of future climate change.

Design of adaptive array antenna utilizing modified on-off algorithm and its real-time implementation on a general-purpose DSP (개선된 On-Off 앨고리듬을 이용한 적응 배열 안테나의 설계와 범용 DSP를 이용한 실시간 구현)

  • This paper presents a modified on-off algorithm based on the gradient method for providing the phase of each antenna element more accurately and simply compared to the conventional on-off algorithm. The sup4erisority of theproposed method is due to the fact that the proposed method finds the increase and decrease of the array output power more accurately by utilizing the gradient of array output power with respect to the instantaneous phase of array element. The array antenna adopting to the proposed method formsmaximum beam-pattern along the direction of the desired signal by aligning the phase of every antenna enement. The proposed method is applied to both linear and two-dimentional aray for analyzing the result. The capability of the real-time processing of the proposed technique is confirmed by implementing the proposed algorithm with TMS320C30 Evaluation Module. Since the computational load required to form the beam-pattern per snapshot is small, the proposed method is suitable for the mobile communication system of which the response must be fast. By the results obtained from the application of the proposed method to the CDMA mobile communication environment, it is vreified that the performance of the received signal is consideralbly improved.

Peridynamic Modeling for Crack Propagation Analysis of Materials (페리다이나믹 이론 모델을 이용한 재료의 균열 진전 해석)

  • In this paper, the computer simulations are carried out by using the peridynamic theory model with various conditions including quasi-static loads, dynamic loads and crack propagation, branching crack pattern and isotropic materials, orthotropic materials. Three examples, a plate with a hole under quasi-static loading, a plate with a pre-existing crack under dynamic loading and a lamina with a pre-existing crack under quasi-static loading are analyzed by computational simulations. In order to simulate the quasi-static load, an adaptive dynamic relaxation technique is used. In the orthotropic material analysis, a homogenization method is used considering the strain energy density ratio between the classical continuum mechanics and the peridynamic. As a result, crack propagation and branching cracks are observed successfully and the direction and initiation of the crack are also captured within the peridynamic modeling. In case of applying peridynamic used homogenization method to a relatively complicated orthotropic material, it is also verified by comparing with experimental results.

  • A nonlinear speed control of a PMSM using a sequential parameter auto-tuning algorithm for servo equipments is presented. The nonlinear control scheme gives an undesirable output performance under the mismatch of the system parameters and load conditions. Recently, to improve the performance, an adaptive linearization scheme, a sliding mode control and an observer-based technique have been reported. Although a good performance can be obtained, the performance is not satisfactory any more under specific conditions such as a large inertia variation, a fast speed transient or an increased sampling time. The simultaneous estimation of principal parameters giving a direct influence on speed dynamics is generally not simple. To overcome this problem, a a sequential parameter auto-tuning algorithm at start-up is proposed, where dominant parameters are estimated in a prescribed regular sequence based on the method that one parameter is estimated during each interval. The proposed scheme is implemented on a PMSM using DSP TMS320C31 and the effectiveness is verified through simulations and experiments.

Parallel Rendering of High Quality Animation based on a Dynamic Workload Allocation Scheme (작업영역의 동적 할당을 통한 고화질 애니메이션의 병렬 렌더링)

  • Even though many studies on parallel rendering based on PC clusters have been done. most of those did not cope with non-uniform scenes, where locations of 3D models are biased. In this work. we have built a PC cluster system with POV-Ray, a free rendering software on the public domain, and developed an adaptive load balancing scheme to optimize the parallel efficiency Especially, we noticed that a frame of 3D animation are closely coherent with adjacent frames. and thus we could estimate distribution of computation amount, based on the computation time of previous frame. The experimental results with 2 real animation data show that the proposed scheme reduces by 40% of execution time compared to the simple static partitioning scheme.

Robust Recurrent Wavelet Interval Type-2 Fuzzy-Neural-Network Control for DSP-Based PMSM Servo Drive Systems

  • In this paper, an intelligent robust control system (IRCS) for precision tracking control of permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) servo drives is proposed. The IRCS comprises a recurrent wavelet-based interval type-2 fuzzy-neural-network controller (RWIT2FNNC), an RWIT2FNN estimator (RWIT2FNNE) and a compensated controller. The RWIT2FNNC combines the merits of a self-constructing interval type-2 fuzzy logic system, a recurrent neural network and a wavelet neural network. Moreover, it performs the structure and parameter-learning concurrently. The RWIT2FNNC is used as the main tracking controller to mimic the ideal control law (ICL) while the RWIT2FNNE is developed to approximate an unknown dynamic function including the lumped parameter uncertainty. Furthermore, the compensated controller is designed to achieve $L_2$ tracking performance with a desired attenuation level and to deal with uncertainties including approximation errors, optimal parameter vectors and higher order terms in the Taylor series. Moreover, the adaptive learning algorithms for the compensated controller and the RWIT2FNNE are derived by using the Lyapunov stability theorem to train the parameters of the RWIT2FNNE online. A computer simulation and an experimental system are developed to validate the effectiveness of the proposed IRCS. All of the control algorithms are implemented on a TMS320C31 DSP-based control computer. The simulation and experimental results confirm that the IRCS grants robust performance and precise response regardless of load disturbances and PMSM parameters uncertainties.

An Efficient Transcoding Algorithm For G.723.1 and EVRC Speech Coders (G.723.1 음성부호화기와 EVRC 음성부호화기의 상호 부호화 알고리듬)

  • Interoperability is ole the most important factors for a successful integration of the speech network. To accomplish communication between endpoints employing different speech coders, decoder and encoder of each endpoint coder should be placed in tandem. However, tandem coder often produces problems such as poor speech quality, high computational load, and additional transmission delay. In this paper, we propose an efficient transcoding algorithm that can provide interoperability to the networks employing ITU-T G.723.1[1]and TIA IS-127 EVRC[2]speech coders. The proposed transcoding algorithm is composed of four parts: LSP conversion, open-loop pitch conversion, fast adaptive codebook search, and fast fixed codebook search. Subjective and objective quality evaluation confirmed that the speech quality produced by the proposed transcoding algorithm was equivalent to, or better than the tandem coding, while it had shorter processing delay and less computational complexity, which is certified implementing on TMS320C62x.

  • An abrupt increase of traffic-load in cellular CDMA systems can cause overload, as a result, degrade the quality of service (QoS) and the spectrum utilization due to lacking radio resources in base stations. In this paper, we propose a joint coverage and resource management (JCRM) scheme which can improve the QoS degradation and the spectrum utilization. The JCRM scheme hands over the overloaded traffic to neighboring cells by virtually reducing overloaded cell coverage and extending neighboring cell coverage, as well the scheme allocates radio resources based on the necessary handover probability. The proposed scheme can be applied to the existing cellular CDMA systems as well as adaptive coverage management schemes for next generation mobile communication systems.

  • The high precision analysis by the p-version of the finite element method are fairly well established as highly efficient method for linear elastic problems, especially in the presence of stress singularity. It has been noted that the merits of the p-version are accuracy, modeling simplicity, robustness, and savings in user's and CPU time. However, little has been done to exploit their benefits in elasto-plastic analysis. In this paper, the p-version finite element model is proposed for the materially nonlinear analysis that is based on the incremental theory of plasticity using the constitutive equation for work-hardening materials, and the associated flow rule. To obtain the solution of nonlinear equation, the Newton-Raphson method and initial stiffness method, etc are used. Several numerical examples are tested with the help of the square plates with cutout, the thick-walled cylinder under internal pressure, and the circular plate with uniformly distributed load. The Effects of Arithmetic Task Difficulty level as a Dual Task on the Gait in Post-stroke Patient (뇌졸중 환자에서 이중 과제로서의 산술 과제 난이도가 보행에 미치는 영향)

  • Many daily activities require people to complete a motor task while walking. Substantial gait decrements during simultaneous attention to a variety of cognitive tasks have been shown by a group of severely injured neurological patients of mixed etiology. And previous studies have shown that the attentional load of a walking-associated task increased with its level of difficulty. The purpose of this study was to analyze subjects' gait changes are affected by the effects of arithmetic task difficulty and performance level. Participants performed a walking task alone, three different Arithmetic tasks while seated, and among them, two kinds of the simillar Arithmetic tasks in combination with walking. Reaction time and accuracy were recorded for two of the Arithmetic tasks. The mean values of the gait were measured using a Timed Up and Go test among 11 with post-stroke patients while walking with and without forward counting (WFC) and backward counting(WBC).There was significant Arithmetic Task Difficulty level between the 10-forward counting task condition(FC) and the 10-backward counting task condition(BC)(p=0.008). The mean values of T.U.G time were significantly higher under backward counting dual-task condition than during a simple walking task(p=0.009) and WFC(p=0.009). The change in T.U.G time during WFC was higher when compared with the change during a simple walking, but there was no significant difference (p=0.246). This study suggesting that a high interference could be linked with a high level of difficulty, whereas adaptive task enabled participants to perfectly share their attention between two concurrent tasks. Future research should determine whether dual task training can reduce gait decrements in dual task situations in people after stroke. And the dual-task-based exercise program is feasible and beneficial for improving walking ability in subjects with stroke.
