3-Level Envelope Delta-Sigma Modulation RF Signal Generator for High-Efficiency Transmitters

  • This paper presents a $0.13{\mu}m$ CMOS 3-level envelope delta-sigma modulation (EDSM) RF signal generator, which synthesizes a 2.6 GHz-centered fully symmetrical 3-level EDSM signal for high-efficiency power amplifier architectures. It consists of an I-Q phase modulator, a Class B wideband buffer, an up-conversion mixer, a D2S, and a Class AB wideband drive amplifier. To preserve fast phase transition in the 3-state envelope level, the wideband buffer has an RLC load and the driver amplifier uses a second-order BPF as its load to provide enough bandwidth. To achieve an accurate 3-state envelope level in the up-mixer output, the LO bias level is optimized. The I-Q phase modulator adopts a modified quadrature passive mixer topology and mitigates the I-Q crosstalk problem using a 50% duty cycle in LO clocks. The fabricated chip provides an average output power of -1.5 dBm and an error vector magnitude (EVM) of 3.89% for 3GPP LTE 64 QAM input signals with a channel bandwidth of 10/20 MHz, as well as consuming 60 mW for both channels from a 1.2 V/2.5 V supply voltage.

Numerical analysis of flow and bed change at a confluence of the Namhan River and the Seom River using a two-dimensional model (2차원 수치모형을 이용한 남한강과 섬강 합류부 구간의 흐름 및 하상변동 해석)

  • The flow and bed change were analyzed using the CCHE2D model, which is a two-dimensional numerical model, at a confluence of the Namhan River and Seom River where deposition occurs predominantly after the "Four Major Rivers Restoration Project." The characteristic of the junction is that the tributary of Seom River joined into the curved channel of the main reach of the Namhan River. The CCHE2D model analyzes the non-equilibrium sediment transport, and the adaptation lengths for the bed load and suspended load are important variables in the model. At the target area, the adaptation length for the bed load showed the greatest influence on the river bed change. Numerical simulation results demonstrated that the discharge ratio ($Q_r$) change affected the flow and bed change in the Namhan River and Seom river junction. When $Q_r{\leq}2.5$, the flow velocity of the main reach increased before confluence, thereby reducing the flow separation zone and decreasing the deposition inside the junction. When $Q_r$>2.5, there was a high possibility that deposition would be increased, thereby forming sand bar. Numerical simulation showed that a fixed sand bar has been formed at the junction due to the change of discharge ratio, which occurred in 2013.

  • This paper presents two flexible alternatives to the decoupled load flow(DCL) method. The proposed load flow methods can improve the convergence profiles of the DCL by reflecting in part the effects of the off-diagonal terms in the Jacobian at minimal costs. They can improve the convergence characteristics especially when the power system operating states deviate from the conditions required for stable convergence of the DCL and the P-Q coupling becomes significant. Two algorithms are obtained from the expression of the full Newton-Raphson load flow (NRL) method by successively diminishing the effects of the off-diagonal submatrices in the Jacobian. In the process of simplification, the Neuman series expansion is utilized. Test results show promising performances of the proposed algorithms in their convergence characteristics both in number of iterations and overall convergence speeds. Proposed algorithms are expected to provide flexible alternatives to the NRL when the DCL experiences convergence problems.

  • Very short-term electric load forecasting is essential for real-time power system operation. In this paper, a very short-term electric load forecasting technique applying the Kalman filter algorithm is proposed. In order to apply the Kalman filter algorithm to electric load forecasting, an electrical load forecasting algorithm is defined as an observation model and a state space model in a time domain. In addition, in order to precisely reflect the noise characteristics of the Kalman filter algorithm, the optimal error covariance matrixes Q and R are selected from several experiments. The proposed algorithm is expected to contribute to stable real-time power system operation by providing a precise electric load forecasting result in the next six hours.

  • This paper deals with the estimation method on the initial pole position of a z-axis permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM) without magnetic pole sensors such as Hall sensors. The proposed method takes account of the z-axis conditions such as the gravitational force and also the load conditions. The algorithm consists of two steps. The first step is to estimate the initial q-axis approximately by monitoring the movements at predefined different test q-axes. The second step is to estimate the real q-axis as accurately as possible based on the results at three different test q-axes. Experimental results on the z-axis PMLSM show good estimation characteristics of the proposed method.

The focus of this paper is characteristic analysis of d and q-axis inductances and torque according to magnetizing quantity of interior permanent magnet for PMASynRM. The d and q-axis current component ratios, load angles of a PMASynRM are investigated quantitatively on the basis of the proposed analysis method and the experimental test. Comparisons are given with output characteristic curves of normal SynRM and those according to the load in PMASynRM, respectively. And optimum design of PMASynRM is performed by Response Surface Methodology(RSM).

The focus of this paper is characteristic analysis of d and q-axis inductances and torque according to magnetizing quantity of interior permanent magnet for PMASynRM. The d and q-axis current component ratios, load angles of a PMASynRM are investigated quantitatively on the basis of the proposed analysis method and the experimental test. Comparisons are given with output characteristic curves of normal SynRM and those according to the load in PMASynRM, respectively And it is confirmed that the proposed model results in high output power performance.

Response prediction of a 50 m guyed mast under typhoon conditions

  • This paper presents the wind excited acceleration responses of a 50 m guyed mast under the action of Typhoon Dujuan. The response of the structure is reconstructed from using a full finite element model and an equivalent beam-column model. The wind load is modelled based on the measured wind speed and recommendations for high-rise structures. The nonlinear time response analysis is conducted using the Newton Raphson iteration procedure. Comparative studies on the measured and computed frequencies and acceleration responses show that the torsional vibration of the structure is significant particularly in the higher vibration modes after the first few bending modes. The equivalent model, in general, gives less accurate amplitude predictions than the full model because of the omission of torsional stiffness of the mast in the vibration analysis, but the root-mean-square value is close to the measured value in general with an error of less than 10%.

Characteristics of Storm Runoff Loadings from a Paddy Field Area (강우시 광역논으로부터의 유출부하 특성)

  • Concentration and discharge have been intensively monitored at the drainage canal in a paddy field area during storm-periods. Among 4 storm runoffs, the No. 2 and No. 3 runoff was in the fertilizer application period. The specific load-specific discharge equation L=aQ\ulcorner have different characteristics for the pollutants. The coefficient of b generally shows values of more than 1 for T-N, about 1 for COD\ulcorner, and less than 1 for T-P. For same specific discharge, No. 2 runoff shows higher specific load than other runoffs. For the coefficient of determination of the L-Q equation, COD\ulcorner is higher than T-N and T-P. The mean concentration of direct runoff, significantly depending on the storm events, is 0.6 to 8.3mg/ιfor T-N, 0.05 to 0.51 mg/ι for T-P, and 10.0 to 18.3 mg/ι for COD\ulcorner.
