In Korea, foot-and-mouth disease has not been reported for several decades, but it began to develop again in 2000. For 2010~2011, when the worst occurred, 3.5 million animals were disposed of resulting in a loss of 2.8 trillion won. In order to prevent the harmful effects of foot-and-mouth disease, vaccination and housing management are being implemented. Despite these measures, foot-and-mouth disease is infected with air through the respiratory tract and accompanies fever after latency. Therefore, it is recognized that measuring and managing the body temperature of livestock at the early stage is the first step of managing this disease. In this paper, we propose a temperature monitoring system that can measure the body temperature by incorporating temperature sensor mounted in ear-tag of cattle and collect body temperature data of each individual cattle through BLE into the control server. The proposed body temperature monitoring system has various advantages such as easy installation without the help of livestock specialists and not damaging the organs of the livestock. So, it is possible to manage the abnormal symptom of cattle in real time and it is believed that the proposed monitoring system will revolutionize the prevention of foot-and-mouth disease.
The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of dietary fish oil inclusion on the eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) contents and organoleptic characteristics of breast meat in mule ducks. Three hundred mule ducks at four weeks of age were randomly assigned to three dietary treatments with five replicate pens in each. One replicate pen had ten males and females each with a total of 100 ducks in each treatment. The diet in the three treatments contained 0, 1.5, and 3.0% fish oil, respectively. Body weights at 4, 6, 8, and 10 weeks of age, and feed efficiency at 4 to 6, 6 to 8, and 8 to 10 weeks of age were recorded. At 10 weeks of age, one male and one female from each replicate were sacrificed for oxidative stability of breast meat and the sacrificed males were employed for the analysis of fatty acids in breast meat and skin. Sensory evaluation of breast meat was also performed. A level of 3.0% fish oil in the diet significantly deteriorated feed efficiency and body weight gain. Dietary fish oil inclusion had a trend of increasing abdominal fat deposition and decreasing the flavor of breast meat. The EPA and DHA contents in the breast meat were higher than those in the breast skin irrespective of oil sources. The EPA and DHA contents in breast meat and breast skin was significantly increased in the 3.0% fish oil group. Although EPA and DHA were not efficiently deposited in the duck meat through dietary fish oil inclusion, this method can still provide a partial supplementation of EPA and DHA.
Texture and 'tenderness' in particular, is an important sensory characteristic for consumers' satisfaction of beef. Objective and detailed sensory measurements of beef texture have been needed for the evaluation and management of beef quality. This study aimed to apply the sensory scales defined in ISO11036:1994 to evaluate the texture of beef. Longissimus and Semitendinosus muscles of three Holstein steers cooked to end-point temperatures of $60^{\circ}C$ and $72^{\circ}C$ were subjected to sensory analyses by a sensory panel with expertise regarding the ISO11036 scales. For the sensory analysis, standard scales of 'chewiness' (9-points) and 'hardness' (7-points) were presented to the sensory panel with reference materials defined in ISO11036. As a result, both 'chewiness' and 'hardness' assessed according to the ISO11036 scales increased by increasing the cooking end-point temperature, and were different between Longissimus and Semitendinosus muscles. The sensory results were in good agreement with instrumental texture measurements. However, both texture ratings in this study were in a narrower range than the full ISO scales. For beef texture, ISO11036 scales for 'chewiness' and 'hardness' are useful for basic studies, but some alterations are needed for practical evaluation of muscle foods.

The spread of infectious diseases in the event of livestock is getting faster and the route of spread gets more varied. It is important for the responsible agency to detect early and establish a prevention and surveillance system. If the spread cannot be contained effectively, great damage and loss will be inevitable in terms of social, environment and economic aspects as well as the welfare of the farmers. At present in Korea, a web-based Infectious Livestock Diseases Statistics System (AIMS: Animal Infectious Disease Data Management System) has been already implemented for this purpose and the service is available to the general public. But this system does not provide geospatial information and does not provide support for decision making and does not provide multi-dimensional information. In this study, an open source-based SOLAP (Spatial On-Line Analytical Processing) technology is applied to enable many diverse forms of data analysis from many aspects to support decision making. The SOLAP system was designed to integrate geospatial information and the analysis of information has been largely divided into map-based analysis and table-based analysis.

This field experiment was carried out to determine the effects of nitrogen(N) application time (March 30, April 9 and April 19) and N fertilizer kind (urea and ammonium sulfate) in early spring on the grass growth, dry matter (DM) yield, crude protein (CP) content, CP yield (CPY), acid detergent fiber (ADF) content, DM digestibility (DMD) and N recovery in orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) meadow for soiling, 1989. The amount of N applied in early spring was 70 kg $ha^{-1}$, and non-fertilized plot was involved as control. In all fertilized plots the growth, DM yield, CP, CPY and regrowth yield of grasses were significantly increased compared with control. The best grass growth and DM yield were observed on March 30, and the best CP, CPY and N recovery were observed on April 9 among all fertilized plots. Also there were not significant differences between urea and ammonium sulfate fertilizer in grass growth, DM yield, CP, CPY, ADF, DMD and N recovery. In Suwon area, therefore, the optimum time of N application for soiling in early spring may be recommended early April, regardless of fertilizer kind of N.

This field experiment was carried out to determine the effects of fertilizer application time in spring on the growth, crude protein(CP) content and dry matter(DM) yield of grasses for soiling. Application times of fertilizer were March 10, 20, 30, April 9 and 19, and control (non-fertilized) plot was involved. All fertilized plots were also treated with single- and compound fertilizer. The first harvesting date for soiling was May 12, and the regrowth soiling yield was investigated on June 9, 1988. In all fertilized plots, the growth, DM yield, CP, CP yield and regrowth yield of gasses were significantly increased compared with control, and the best grass growth, DM yield, CP, CP yield and N recovery were observed on March 30 and April 9 among all fertilized plots. And there were not significant differences between singleand compound fertilizer treatment in grass growth, DM yield and CP content. On March 30 and April 9 in this experiment, the accumulated temperature was 120 and 200^{\circ}C.$ and the subsoil temperature at 10 cm depth was 8 and 10^{\circ}C.$. Considering the average meteorological condition in Suwon area, the optimum application time of spring fertilizer for soiling may be recommended from April 3 to April 10.

To find out the residual effect of phosphate fertilization level on the dry matter yield and nutrient plloductivity of pasture plants, this experiment was arranged as a randomized complete block design with six treatments(0-0, 50-50, 100-65, 150-65, 200-65 and 250-65kg $P_2O_5$), those were composed of three $P_2O_5$ fertilization level(0,50 and 65kg $P_2O_5$ after phosphate fertilization trial with six treatments(0, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250kg $P_2O_5$/ha) from 1989 to 1992, and conducted at hilly land in Kwangju, Kyonggi Province from 1993 to 1994. The results obtained are summarized as follows : As the available phosphate of soil increase, the early growth and cover degree of pasture plants wintered were more favorable. With 150-65kg $P_2O_5$ application for two years, the average dry matter yield of grasses, 9,862kglha was similared to that of 200-65kg $P_2O_5$/ha. The crude protein and energy productivity of pasture plants tended to increase as available phosphate of soil was increased, but those were not different between 150-65 and 250-65kg P 2 0 4 a Efficiency of $P_2O_5$ was highest at $P_2O_5$ 150-65kg/ha fertilization, wHich produced dry matter 11 1.8kg. net energy lactation(NEL) 67 1.2M.f per I kg P205. Therefore, phosphate fertilization is recommended strongly application with 150kg/ha for three years after pasture establishment, and then 65kg/ha for two years a reasonabl management in hilly grassland.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of different cutting times at 0, 10 and 20 days after lodging on the percentage of dead plants and bare ground, live and dead matter build-up, and botanical composition of orchardgrass dominated pasture during the mid summer season. For the test, a randomized block design with 3 replications was treated with 3 different cutting times (July 17, July 27 and Aug. 6). The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The percentage of dead plants with cutting times at 0, 10 and 20 days after lodging was 26.3,41.7 and 46.7'%, respectively. 2. The percentage of bare ground with cutting times at 0, 10 and 20 days after lodging was 13.3,26.7 and 3 1.7%, respectively. 3. Dead matter build-up with cutting times at 0, 10 and 20 days after lodging was increased significantly with later cutting (p<0.05). The ratio of live and dead matter build-up with cutting times at 0, 10 and 20 days after lodging was 90.2:9.8, 47.7:52.3 and 39.1:60.9%, respectively. 4. Regrowth yield after lodging was decreased significantly (p<0.05) with later cutting time. 5. The percentage of legumes in botanical composition was increased greatly with later cutting time. The ratio of grasses and legumes with cutting times at 0, 10 and 20 days after lodging was 77.8:21.6,45.5: 50.3 and 36.5:61.7%, respectively.

This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of the first harvesting times and regrowth periods after the fist harvest on grass regrowth, dry matter (DM) yield and botanical composition in pasture mixtures during 1987 and 1988. For the test, a split plot design with 3 replications was treated with 3 different first harvesting times (vegetative, stem elongation and heading stage) and 3 different regrowth periods (20, 30 and 40 days) after first harvest. Although the total DM yield of grasses was decreased slightly with earlier cutting, the regrowth DM yield and the regrowth plant height was increased significantly with earlier cutting (p < 0.05). Also, the 30 days of regrowth periods was contributed greatly to the regrowth and the DM yield. The percentage of legumes Tmainly red clover) in botanical composition was increased with later initial harvest anrl longer regrowth period after first harvest. Based on the results, it is suggested that good grass regrowth and seasonal distribution could be achieved by the earlier harvest at fist and the regrowth period of 30 days after first harvest in spring.

This study was carried out to investigate the relationships and the variations of agronomic characteristics in the shoot and root part of grasses for the basic data of the development, the management and the utilization of pasture in the forest. This study was conducted with 0% (full sunlight), 25%, 50% and 75% of shading degrees after orchardgrass, timothy, perennial ryegrass, ladino clover and orchardgrass dominated mixture were planted on Aug. 25 in 1984. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Dry matter yield in 25% of shading was increased 3-1 7% compared with 0% (full sunlight), while 50 and 75% of shading were decreased 28-35% and 44-60%, respectively. Dry matter yield of timothy, perennial ryegrass and ladino clover were decreased 10, 8 and 33%, respectively, compared with orchardgrass, but there was little difference between orchard grass and mixture. 2. Root distribution by different shading degrees was the maximum at 25%, followed by 0, 50 and 75% of shading degrees. Root distribution among different species was the maximum at orchardgrass, followed by perennial ryegrass and timothy. Especially, root distribution of timothy was very little compared with different species. And significantly positive correlation was observed in the relationship between root weight and dry matter yield (r=0.8 102**). 3. The physiological activity of root by different shading degrees was declined by more shading. 4. The length and the percentage of blade by different shading degrees was an increase tendency by more shading. The length and the percentage of blade among different species was followed by timothy, perennial ryegrass and orchardgrass, in that order. And the correlation between the percentage of blade and dry matter yield was significantly negative.
