  • This study aims to demonstrate the importance of information literacy instructions by showing effects of information literacy skills on critical thinking dispositions among high school students. We collected 761 survey responses from high school students and conducted multiple regression analysis to examine the relationships between the two variables. The findings show that (1) students' information search skills affect their pursuit of truth, openness, inquiring mind, and objectivity, (2) the information analytic skills influence the levels of pursuit of truth, openness, and objectivity, (3) the information presentation and delivery skills affect the levels of inquiring mind, organization, and self-trust, and, (4) the information evaluation skills influence the levels of pursuit of truth, openness, inquiring mind, organization, objectivity, and self-trust. However, students' synthesis and application skills of students did not affect their critical thinking dispositions. To sum up, we observed the influence of information literacy skills on critical thinking dispositions. The results of this study provide foundations for maintaining and developing information literacy instructions in school libraries.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to clarify the factors related to mothers' decisions to provide disease explanations to their children, investigate the associations between those factors and social adaptive skills, and examine support relative to children's growth and development. Methods: Data were collected from anonymous, self-administered questionnaires answered by 71 mothers of outpatient school-aged children with congenital heart disease. The questionnaire items included characteristics of mothers and children, decision factors for providing disease explanations, and children's social adaptive skills (Asahide-Shiki social adaptive skills test). Factor analysis was performed on the decision factors, and multiple regression analysis was performed to examine the association between the identified factors and each social adaptive skill. Results: The decision factors for providing disease explanations were the mother's explanation ability, the receptive capability of the child, and the child's interest and literacy regarding the explanation. Multiple regression analysis showed that language and social life skills were significantly associated with the child's receptive capability, and language and daily life skills were significantly associated with the child's interest and literacy regarding the explanation. Conclusion: Improving children's language, social life, and daily life skills may enhance their receptive capability and literacy regarding explanations of their disease.

  • This study aims to propose measures to support students' English literacy development in collaboration with public libraries in the community. The literature review shows that students can improve their English literacy skills by not only reading authentic books, but also participating in English literacy programs at the public library. The analysis of the gathered data reveals that public libraries provide extensive programs customized to students' needs. It is also shown that reading programs at the public libraries play an important role in improving students' literacy skills. With the analysis of the literacy programs at various libraries nationwide or abroad, we can understand the importance of the English literacy programs. Especially English Literacy programs in public libraries can be more effective to improve students' English literacy skills. It is suggested that we need to support children's literacy development in collaboration with public libraries in the community.

  • Information Literacy (IL) is considered as an important aspect of everybody's life. In today's information society possessing IL skills is more significant than ever as information is available in many forms and formats. Schools are the primary places where these skills are imbibed in students. Organizations like UNESCO, IFLA, ALA, AASL, & ACRL have formulated IL Standards and Guidelines/Models at the international arena. Though the Government of India is making efforts in providing information literacy skills yet there are no set of standards/guidelines devised by any agency/organization at the school level. This paper gives a brief account of IL initiatives and highlights the trends and developments of IL programmes in Indian School Libraries. It recommends the nation to form a national level advisory committee to develop IL framework for Indian school Libraries. Further, it suggests that librarians should work in close collaboration with teachers for better results. A moderate attempt has been made to provide feasible solutions for effective implementation of IL programmes in school libraries.

Digital literacy is an essential tool to support other subjects and all jobs. The digital literacy requires several thinking skills, an awareness of the necessary standards of behaviour expected in online environments, and an understanding of the shared social issues created by digital technologies. The government tried to cultivate communication ability to solve various problems creatively and efficiently through software education in the 2015 revised national curriculum and to raise communication ability and community consciousness through collaborative problem solving process. In this paper, we analyze whether the 2015 revised curriculum can develop digital literacy ability through educational contents of software curriculum.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide a clear definition of the health literacy for patients with cardiovascular disease by analyzing the dimensions and properties using Hybrid concept analysis. Methods: The concept of health literacy of patients with cardiovascular disease was analyzed according to the cyclic process of theoretical phase-field work phase-final analysis phase presented in the Hybrid model. We reviewed 26 literatures and conducted in-depth interviews with 13 patients with cardiovascular disease. Results: The concept of health literacy in cardiovascular patients is derived from two dimensions and five attributes. Literacy skills, health information search ability and health information utilization skills were derived as attributes in the individual functional dimension, while active communication with the medical team and utilization of health information support resources were derived at the interrelational dimension. It is defined as the individualized and integrated ability of an individual to explore and utilize the various health information needed to make appropriate health decisions during the chronic course after diagnosis of cardiovascular disease, to communicate proactively with medical staffs and to utilize support resources. Conclusion: This study will contribute to the development and related research of health literacy measurement tools that can be used in cardiovascular nursing practice based on the attributes and indicators of health literacy for patients with cardiovascular disease.

  • The present research intends to examine how online learners' digital literacy skills affects their learning flow and academic self-efficacy in the universities. The data were collected from a group of 228 students taking online course at the four-year university in Cheonan. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS 29.0 program: descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and regression analysis. As a result of this study, the digital literacy skills of university students taking cyber lectures were found to have a statistically significant positive correlation with learning flow in online classes and academic self-efficacy. Through this study, it is hoped to provide an opportunity to explore ways to improve learning flow and academic self-efficacy as the problems of non-face-to-face classes. Therefore, in order to ensure the quality of online classes, it is hoped to expand educational opportunities such as various research and programs that can improve digital literacy skills.
