  • We have synthesized five novel phthaloperinone dyes via a condensation reaction to be applied as yellow colorants for liquid crystal display(LCD) color filters. The reaction between 1,8-naphthalic anhydride(1a), 4-chloro-1,8-naphthalic anhydride(1b), 4-bromo-1,8-naphthalic anhydride(1c), 3-nitro-1,8-naphthalic anhydride(1d), 4-nitro-1,8-naphthalic anhydride(1e) and 1,2-diaminoanthraquinone(2) proceeded readily giving a product in 72-88% yields. The synthesized dyes were characterized by UV-Vis, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The spectral properties and thermal stability of the dyes were examined. The dyes absorb at around 400-450nm. All five dyes showed satisfactory thermal stability: the dyes retain 99-100% of its original weight at $300^{\circ}C$, 98-100% at $350^{\circ}C$, 92-98% at $400^{\circ}C$, and 84-92% at $450^{\circ}C$. We have quantitatively evaluated the reaction mechanism and reactivity of dye molecules by means of Pariser-Parr-Pople Molecular Orbital Method(PPP-MO).

  • Effect of solution film processing conditions on the dimensional stability of TAC film which is used as protection film of liquid crystal display (LCD) has been studied under hot and humid environmental condition (65 $^{\circ}C$, 90%). In addition, the mechanical and optical property changes due to the dimensional instability were also investigated. It was found that the fast solvent evaporation due to the increasing of methylene chloride content in solvent mixtures and decreasing dope concentration caused the lowering of dimensional stability under hot and humid condition. This dimensional stability change also affected the mechanical and optical properties of TAC films as well.

  • In order to develop COG (Chip On Glass) technology for LCD module interconnecting the driver IC to Al pad electrode on the glass substrate, Anisotropic Conductive Adhesive(ACA) process, the most promising one among COG technologies, was investigated. ACA process was carried out by two steps, dispensing of ACA resin in the bonding area and curing by W radiation. Load on the chip was ranged from 2.0 to 15kg and the chip was heated at about 12$0^{\circ}C$. In resin, the density of conductive particles coated with Au or Ni at the surface were 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 particles/$\textrm{mm}^2$, and the diameter of particles were 5, 7 and 12${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. As a result of the experiments, ACA process using ACA particle of diameter and density of 5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 4000 particles/$\textrm{mm}^2$ respectively shows optimum characteristic with the stabilzed bonding properties and contact resistance.

  • In this paper, we implemented an optical information security system using computer generated hologram based on the principle of interference and BaTiO$_3$that is photorefractive material. First of all, we would generate binary phase hologram which can reconstruct the original image perfectly, and regard this hologram as the image to be encrypted. And then applying the interference rule to the hologram, encrypted and reference (fkey information) images are generated. In the decrypting process, we can get an interference intensity by interfering the reference image and the encrypted image in the Mach-Zehnder interferometer. and transforming interference intensity information into phase information using LCD(liquid crystal display) and finally recover original image by inverse Fourier transforming the phase information. In this process, the Intensity information generated by interference of two images is very sensitive to external vibrations. So, we get a stable interference using the characteristic of SPPCM(self pumped phase conjugate mirror) of BaTiO$_3$that is photorefractive material. The proposed method has an advantage of double image encryption by encrypting the hologram of the image instead of original image.

  • Optical visual cryptography (OVC) based on binary computer generated holograms (BCGH) is proposed. OVC used optics instead of human eyesight for decryption of visual cryptography (VC). As a result, it was possible to adapt cryptography to an optical system. However, it also had some difficulties because it did not overcome the existing problems of VC completely. This paper suggests a method of optical cryptography implementation based on the phase modulation characteristics of a liquid crystal display (LCD). The problems are evaluated by simulation. This system shows that the noise is reduced and resolution is improved compared with the conventional OVC.

  • PURPOSE. The aim of this study is to compare the casts obtained by using conventional techniques and liquid crystal display (LCD) three-dimensional (3D) print techniques in the All-on-4 treatment concept of the edentulous mandibular jaw. MATERIALS AND METHODS. In this study, a completely edentulous mandibular acrylic cast (typodont) with bone-level implants placed with the Allon-4 technique served as a reference cast. In this typodont, impressions were taken with the conventional technique and dental stone casts were obtained. In addition, after scanning the acrylic cast in a dental laboratory scanner and obtaining the Standard Tessellation Language (STL) data, 3D printed casts were manufactured with a 3D printing device based on the design. The stone and 3D printed casts were scanned in the laboratory scanner and STL data were obtained, and then the interimplant distances were measured using Geomagic Control X v2020 (3D Systems, Rock Hill, SC, USA) analysis software (n = 60). The obtained data were statistically evaluated with one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's pairwise comparison tests. RESULTS. As a result of the one-way ANOVA test, it was determined that the stone casts, 3D printed casts, and reference cast values in all distance intervals conformed to the normal distribution and these values had a significant difference among them in all distance intervals. In Tukey pairwise comparison test, significant differences were found between casts at all distance intervals. In all analyses, the level of significance was determined as .05. CONCLUSION. 3D printed casts obtained with a 3D LCD printing device can be an alternative to stone casts when implants are placed in edentulous jaws. [J Adv Prosthodont 2022;14:379-87]

  • Optical simulation methods were applied to the edge-lit LED backlight for LCD TV applications in order to optimize the optical structure of the light guide plate(LGP), and thus to improve the uniformity properties by removing the bright spots caused by LED's. The edge-lit LED backlight consisted of three white LED's with a lamp cover, a light guide plate, and a reflection film. When there was no pattern on the entrance side surface of the LGP, the illuminance uniformity was sensitively dependent on the distance d between the LED and the entrance surface. The illuminance uniformity increased with d but its increasing rate slowed down when d was beyond ~ 1.5 mm. When micro-patterns such as a lenticular lens array (LLA) or a serration pattern were formed on the entrance surface, the illuminance uniformity was improved substantially even for the case of very small d. At the same simulation condition, the lightguide with serration pattern showed a better uniformity than that with LLA pattern. Additional improvement could be achieved by changing the refractive index of the micro-patterns. These results suggest that using micro-patterns is a very effective way to reduce the bright spots due to their refracting function for the concentrated incident rays onto the LGP.

  • Objectives: The aim of this study is to evaluate exposure levels of the extremely low frequency magnetic fields(ELF-MF) radiated from various electric facilities in Liquid Crystal Display(LCD) manufacturing processes. Methods: This study measured the exposure levels of personal and local ELF-MF for the electronic facilities installed in two LCD manufacturing companies. Samplers were installed around workers' waist during working hours to identify personal exposure levels, and direct reading equipment were located at 3 cm, 10 cm, and 30 cm away from the surface of the electronic facilities to measure local exposure levels. Average and maximum(ceiling) values were calculated for personal and local exposure levels. Results: Average and maximum of personal exposure levels for each worker were 0.56(mean) ± 0.02(SE) µT and 6.31 ± 0.75 µT, respectively. Statistical analyses of the study found that maximum of the personal exposure levels for engineers was significantly higher than that for operators since engineers spend more time near the electronic facilities for repairing. The range of maximum personal exposure levels was 0.50 ~ 43.50 µT and its highest level was equivalent to 4.35 % of ACGIH(American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists) exposure limit value(1 mT). Maximum of local exposure levels was 8.18 ± 0.52 µT and the electronic facilities with higher exposure levels were roof rail and electric panel, which were not related to direct manufacturing. The range of maximum local exposure levels was 0.60 ~ 287.20 µT and its highest level was equivalent to 28.7 % of the ACGIH exposure limit value. Lastly, the local exposure levels significantly decreased as the measurement distance from the electronic facilities increased. Conclusions: Maximum of personal and local exposure levels did not exceed the exposure limit value of ACGIH. However, it is recommended to keep the workers as far as possible from the sources of ELF-MF.

  • The information indicating device plays an important part in the information times. Recently, the classical CRT (Cathod Ray Tube) display is getting transferred to the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) one which is a kind of the FPDs (Flat Panel Displays). The OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes) display of the FPDs has many advantages for the low power consumption, the luminescence in itself, the light weight, the thin thickness, the wide view angle, the fast response and so on as compared with the LCD one. The OLED has lately attracted considerable attention as the next generation device for the information indicators. And also it has already been applied for the outside panel of a mobile phone, and its demand will be gradually increased in the various fields. It is manufactured by the vapor deposition method in the vacuum state, and the uniformity of thin film on the substrate depends on the temperature distribution in the point-cell source. This paper describes the basic concepts that are obtained to design the point-cell source using the computational temperature analysis. The grids are generated using the module of AUTOHEXA in the ICEM CFD program and the temperature distributions are numerically obtained using the STAR-CD program. The temperature profiles are calculated for four cases, i.e., the charge rate for the source in the crucible, the ratio of diameter to height of the crucible, the ratio of interval to height of the heating bands, and the geometry modification for the basic crucible. As a result, the blowout phenomenon can be shown when the charge rate for the source increases. The temperature variation in the radial direction is decreased as the ratio of diameter to height is decreased and it is suggested that the thin film thickness can be uniformed. In case of using one heating band, the blowout can be shown as the higher temperature distribution in the center part of the source, and the clogging can appear in the top end of the crucible in the lower temperature. The phenomena of both the blowout and the clogging in the modified crucible with the nozzle-diffuser can be prevented because the temperature in the upper part of the crucible is higher than that of other parts and the temperature variation in the radial direction becomes small.
