The effect of a water-miscible ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate $([BMIM][BF_4])$, on the horseradish peroxidase (HRP)-catalyzed oxidation of 2-methoxyphenol (guaiacol) with hydrogen peroxide $(H_2O_2)$ was investigated. HRP maintains its high activity in the aqueous mixtures containing various concentrations of the ionic liquid and even in 90% (v/v) ionic liquid. In order to minimize the effect of solution viscosity on the kinetic constants of HRP catalysis, the enzymatic reactions in the subsequent kinetic study were performed in water-ionic liquid mixtures containing 25% (v/v) ionic liquid at maximum. As the concentration of $[BMIM][BF_4]$ increased for the oxidation of guaiacol by HRP, the $K_m$ value increased with a slight decrease in the $K_{cat}$ value: The $K_m$ value increased from 2.8 mM in 100% (v/v) water to 22.5mM in 25% (v/v) ionic liquid, indicating that ionic liquid significantly weakens the binding affinity of guaiacol to HRP.
Energy transfer dynamics of excited vibrational energy of OH stretching bonds in liquid water is theoretically studied. With time-dependent vibrational Hamiltonian obtained from a mixed quantum/classical calculation, we construct a master equation describing the energy transfer dynamics. Survival probability predicted by the master equation is compared with numerically exact one and we found that incoherent picture of energy transfer is reasonably valid for long-time population dynamics. Within the incoherent picture, we assess the validity of independent pair approximation (IPA) often introduced in the theoretical models utilized in the analysis of experimental data. Our results support that the IPA is almost perfectly valid as applied for the vibrational energy transfer in liquid water. However, proper incorporation of radial and orientational correlations between two OH bonds is found to be critical for a theory to be quantitatively valid. Consequently, it is suggested that the Forster model should be generalized by including the effects of the pair correlations in order to be applied for vibrational energy transfer in liquid water.
The purpose of this study is to investigate children's liquid conservation concept according to their ages and task-situations in the water evaporation phenomenon. Thirty from each 4-, 6- and 8-year-old age groups (total of 90 subjects) were selected for this study. The subjects were recruited from two day-care centers, a kindergarten, and an elementary school, in Seoul. Statistical methods used for data analysis were frequencies, percentiles, means, standard deviations and repeated measures ANOVA. As a result, there was a significant difference in children's liquid conservation concept in the evaporation of water according to their ages and task-situations. 8-year-old children showed levels of cognition than 4- and 6-year-olds. Children showed higher levels of cognition in the task of drying than in the task of water level changes.
A simple Couette flow velocity profile with an appropriate correlation for the free terminal rise velocity of a single bubble in a quiescent liquid can produce reliable results for the trajectories of small spherical air bubbles in a low-viscosity liquid (water) provided the liquid remains under uniform shear flow. Comparison of the model adopted in this paper with published results has been accomplished. Based on this study it has also been found that the lift coefficient in water is higher than its typical value in a high-viscosity liquid and therefore a modified correlation for the lift coefficient in a uniform shear flow of water within the regime of the $E\ddot{o}tv\ddot{o}s$ number $0.305{\leq}Eo{\leq}1.22$ is also presented.
Recently. with the rapid development in large sea water systems. there occurs much interest in the study of erosion-corrosion. In this study. the mild steel(SB41) was tested by using of a erosion-corrosion test apparatus with fountain-jet and was investigated under the environments of liquid, air-liquid 2 phase flow and solid particle-liquid 2 phase flow. Main results obtained are as follows : 1. The weight loss by corrosion-erosion in air-liquid 2 phase flow are more increased than that in only liquid solution. 2. Effect of air-liquid 2 phase flow on corrosion-erosion sensitivity becomes more sensitive in natural seawater than that in distilled water. 3. The corrosion potential by corrosion-erosion in air-liquid and solid particle-liquid 2 phase flow becomes noble than that of only liquid solution.
In this study, the cooling performance of a liquid CPU cooler using the water/propylene glycol(PG)-based $Al_2O_3$ nanofluids is experimentally investigated. Water/PG-based $Al_2O_3$ nanofluids are manufactured by two-step method with ultrasonic energy for 10 hours. The volume fractions of the nanofluids are 0.25% and 0.35%. Thermal conductivity and viscosity of the nanofluids are measured to theoretically predict the thermal performance of the liquid CPU cooler using performance factor. Performance factor results indicate that the cooling performance of the liquid CPU cooler can be improved using the manufactured nanofluids. To evaluate the cooling performance of the liquid CPU cooler experimentally, temperature differences between ambient air and heater are measured for base fluid and nanofluids respectively. Based on the results, it is shown that performance of the liquid CPU cooler using $Al_2O_3$ nanofluids is improved maximum up to 8.6% at 0.25 Vol.%.

In this study, application of polypropylene hollow fiber membrane contactors for $CO_2$ removal from water in liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) mode was simulated. For this purpose, a steady state 2D mathematical model was developed. In this model axial and radial diffusion was considered to $CO_2$ permeation through the hollow fibers. $CO_2$ laden water is fed at a constant flow rate into the lumen side, permeated through the pores of membrane and at the end of this process, $CO_2$ solution in the lumen side was extracted by means of aqueous diethanolamine (DEA) and chemical reaction. The simulation results were validated with the experimental data and it was found a good agreement between them, which confirmed the reliability of the proposed model. Both simulation and experimental results confirmed the reduction in the percentage of $CO_2$ removal by increment of feed flow rate.
In this study, a liquid carbonation method was applied for producing precipitate calcium carbonate by liquid-liquid reaction. We recycled the recycling water of ready-mixed concrete, one of construction waste for use source of carbonate ion. A supernatant separated from the recycling water of ready-mixed concrete, as a result of ICP analysis of a cation, $Ca^{2+}$ was contained up to 1100 ppm. We used MEA as a $CO_2$ absorbent for the liquid carbonation. A precipitate $CaCO_3$ was produced at more than MEA 20 wt%. The precipitate $CaCO_3$ as a final product was separated and dried. The result of XRD was confirmed the generation of $CaCO_3$ to calcite structure.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of application time and amount of liquid pig manure on growth and yield of rice plant and infiltration water quality. Liquid manure treatment with higher application rate and closer application time to transplanting time showed higher plant height and number of tiller at panicle formation stage, but it caused the plant disease and pest and lodging. In liquid manure treatment with higher application rate, number of panicles per hill and number of spikelets per panicle were higher but yield of rice was less than chemical fertilizer treatment due to low rate of ripeness and 1,000 grain weight. $NO_3-N$ concentration in infiltration water sample was increased with increasing application amount of liquid manure and closer application time to transplanting of rice plant. With consideration yield of rice and environment such as groundwater quality, the proper application amount were 150% and 100% of recommending N fertilizer level (11kg) at before winter and April or May treatment, respectively.
Wall thinning of pipeline in power plants occurs mainly by flow acceleration corrosion (FAC), cavitation erosion (C/E), liquid droplet impingement erosion (LDIE). Wall thinning by FAC and C/E has been well investigated; however, LDIE in plant industries has rarely been studied due to the experimental difficulty of setting up a long injection of highly-pressurized air. In this study, we designed a long-term experimental system for LDIE and investigate the behavior of LDIE for three kinds of materials (A106B, SS400, A6061). The main control parameter was the air-water ratio (${\alpha}$), which was defined as the volumetric ratio of water to air (0.79, 1.00, 1.72). In order to clearly understand LDIE, the spraying velocity (${\nu}$) of liquid droplets was controled larger then 160 m/s and the experiments were performed for 15 days. Therefore, this research focuses relation between erosion rate and air-water ratio on the various pipe-flow materials. NPP(nuclear power plant)'s LDIE prediction theory and management technique were drawn from the obtained data.
