The paper presents the results of the experimental study about flow discharge characteristics of double swirl coaxial injectors for a liquid rocket engine. Flow discharge characteristics of injectors become one of critical design issues for LRE combustion devices. Tap water and liquid oxygen/kerosene were used for ambient and hot firing tests, respectively. A combustion discharge coefficient varies depending on a mixture ratio and a recess ratio, and magnitudes of the variations are different with respect to injector shapes and operating conditions. The variation of a combustion discharge coefficient with a LOx injector is considered to result from flame structure changes due to physical property changes.

Recently non-thermal plasma has been frequently applied to various research fields. The liquid plasma have received much attention lately because of interests in surgical and nanomaterial synthesis applications. Especially, intensive researches have been carried out for non-thermal plasma in liquid by using various electrode configurations and power supplies. We have developed a bioplasma source which could be used in a liquid, in which outer insulator has been covered onto the outer electrode. Also we have also put an insulator between the inner and outer electrode. Based on the surface discharge mode, the nonthermal bioplasma has been generated inside a liquid by using an alternating current voltage generator with peak voltage of 12 kV under driving frequency of 22 KHz. Here the discharge voltage and current have been measured for electrical characteristics. Especially, We have measured discharge and optical characteristics under various liquids of deionized (DI) water, tap water, and saline by using monochromator. We have also observed nitric oxide (NO), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and hydroxyl (OH) radical species by optical emission spectroscopy during the operation of bioplasma discharge inside various kinds of DI water, tap water, and saline. Here the temperature has been kept to be $40^{\circ}C$ or less when discharge in liquid has been operated in this experiment. Also we have measured plasma temperature by high speed camera image and density by using either H-alpha or H-beta Stark broadening method.
An electrostatic discharge (ESD) or a noise supplied from the outside has an effect on communication between the timing controller (TCON) and the memory element (EEPROM) through the interface between the timing controller and the memory element in liquid crystal displays (LCD). Therefore, we must apply ESD protection methods to LCD operating circuits for a normal operation. Our ESD protection circuit is to prevent from bi-directional communication errors between TCON and EEPROM due to an electrostatic discharge (ESD).

Recently, much attention has been given to plasma production under liquid and its applications [1]. However, most of plasma production techniques reported so far utilize high voltage dc, ac, rf or microwave power [2], where damage to discharge electrodes and small discharge volume are remained issues. As an alternative of plasma production method under liquid, we have proposed pulsed microwave excited plasma using slot antenna, where damage to the slot electrode can be minimized and plasma volume can be increased. We have also reported improvement of treatment efficiency with use of reduced-pressure condition during the discharge [3]. To realize low pressure conditions in liquid, various alternative technique can be considered. One possible technique is simultaneous injection of microwave power and ultrasonic wave. Ultrasonic wave induces pressure fluctuation with the wave propagation and is so far used for cavitation production in the water. We propose utilization of reduced pressure induced by ultrasonic cavitation for improvement of the plasma production. Correlation between the plasma production and the ultrasonic power will be discussed.
This paper was studied on the surface discharge characteristics and tracking phenomena on the solid insulator in liquid nitrogen ($LN_2$) at atmospheric pressure. In order to investigate the bubbles which have much influence on electric surface discharge in liquid nitrogen, Knife type electrode and plane electrode were arranged in different modes(Mode A, Mode B, and Mode C) and investigated for surface discharge and tracking phenomena. In Mode A, by the movement of bubbles tracking damage was formed under the electrodes. The tracking pattern in Mode B was formed along the electrode axis.
In this study, a gas-liquid hybrid atmospheric pressure plasma reactor of the dielectric barrier discharge method was fabricated and characterized. The solubility of copper oxide in the organic acid solution was increased when argon having a larger atomic weight than helium was used during plasma discharge. There was no significant effect of mixing organic acid solutions under plasma discharge treatment on the variation of copper oxide's solubility. As the applied voltage for plasma discharge and the concentration of the organic acid solution increased, the dissolution and removal power of the copper oxide layer increased. Solubility of copper oxide was more affected by the concentration in organic acid solution rather than the variation of plasma applied voltage. The usefulness of hybrid plasma reactor for the surface cleaning process was confirmed.
Electrical discharges may occur in gas, liquid as well as solid insulating materials. This paper describes the investigation results on the discharges in air, silicone oil and low density polyethylene (LDPE) using needle plane electrode system under AC voltage of 50 Hz. The experimental results showed that for discharge in air (corona), discharge pulses were concentrated around the peak of applied voltage at negative half cycle. For silicone oil positive as well as negative discharges were observed which concentrated around the peak of applied voltage. The positive pulse number was smaller but the magnitude was higher than that of negative discharge. Discharges in void took place at wider range of phase of applied voltage. The unbalance in pulse number and magnitude similar to that of oil discharges were observed. For electrical treeing in LDPE, the discharges were spread before the zero cross of the applied voltage up to the peak at both positive and negative half cycles. The discharge pulse sequence analysis indicated that the PD occurrence in air, oil and void were strongly affected by the magnitude of applied voltage. However, for electrical treeing it was observed that the discharge occurrence was strongly affected by the time derivative of the applied voltage (dv/dt).

Application of the plasma is already highlighted as a new technology in the last few years. In these days, there are lots of attempt in various application with plasma in that it is known as an effective treatment to animal, plants, material and so on. Plasma in liquid, one of new plasma applications, has advantages in ability to treat bio-cell or solutions. For example, electro-surgery, water purification, radical generation and so on. Especially, plasma discharge in solutions is very useful technique and difficult to generate due to electrolysis, vaporization and something else. In this study, we have performed plasma discharge and checked sustainability of plasma in solution(saline 0.9%). And we have measured basic characteristics of plasma in liquid. Such as electrical energy and plasma density are calculated from discharging current and voltage. Also, its thermal energy is measured with IR camera.
The effect of ambient gas (steam) condensation on swirl spray characteristics were studied experimentally for low subcooling condition of the liquid. The configuration of the liquid(water) sheet and the breakup modes were examined. Also variation of the discharge coefficient, breakup length, local and the cross-sectional area-averaged SMD of droplets with the liquid flow(injection) rate were obtained. The perforation breakup mode appears dominant with condensation while the aerodynamic wave breakup mode is dominant without condensation(in the air environment). The discharge coefficient, breakup length and the mean drop sizes decrease in a same manner with increasing of the liquid flow rate for both cases(with and without condensation). The condensation effects are insignificant with the discharge coefficient. However, the local and cross-sectional area-averaged SMD are larger and the breakup length becomes shorter in the steam environment. The spray angle predicted from the volumetric flux distribution along the radial direction of the sprays in the steam environment becomes larger with condensation.
In the pressure swirl atomizer, the liquid is injected through tangential passages into a swirl chamber, from which it emerges with both tangential and axial velocity components to form a thin conical sheet at the nozzle exit. This sheet rapidly attenuates, finally disintegrating into ligaments and then drops. The purpose of this study is to measure the spray characteristics according to variation of viscosity of the spray produced by the pressure swirl atomizer. The nozzle tested here were especially designed for this investigation. The discharge coefficient is determined by measuring the volume flow rate with a flow meter and the cone angle of the liquid sheets issuing from the nozzle is obtained from series of photographs of the sheet for various liquid viscosity and injection pressure. And mean drop size is measured by image processing method. It is found that the geometrical characteristics of the nozzle and the variation of viscosity were the influential parameters to determine the spray characteristics such as the cone angle, discharge coefficients and SMD.
