  • Purpose: The aim of the study was to investigate items of commonly used questionnaires that measure functioning status of persons with stroke and map to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Methods: Eighty-six patients with stroke were recruited from 12 medical institutes for the study. Each item of the Modified Bathel Index (MBI), Stroke Impact Scale (SIS), Mini Mental Status Evaluation (MMSE) and SF-36 were examined and compared its concept with the ICF. Concept linking was performed by 10 health professionals independently. A field test was performed to assess its correlation between those of scales and their linked ICF category sets. Results: It was found that 11 items in MBI was linked to 14 ICF categories, whereas 27 items of MMSE had 10 categories of ICF linked. 60 items of SIS were to be linked with 35 ICF categories. Agreement between professionals in linking was found to be high: 97.5% for MBI items, 78.0%, 78.0%, and 74.8% for MMSE, SIS, and SF-36 respectively. Strong relationship was observed between measurement scales and linked ICF code sets (r=-0.76 for SIS, r=-0.78 for MBI, r=-0.47 for MMSE) whereas there was no relationship was found between SF-36 and its ICF code set (r=-0.06) from the field test. Conclusion: It was found that items of SIS, MMSE and MBI may be linked to ICF categories. Those of linking concept between clinical tools and the ICF could be helpful for clinical data standardization.

  • Although the function and utility of RNA transcripts derived from matured spermatozoa remains unclear, they might play important roles in the establishment of a paternal genome and subsequently embryo development. Herein, we investigated the expression of X-chromosome linked RNA transcripts in matured bovine spermatozoa. The total RNA was extracted from the matured spermatozoa, and then converted to cDNA. Autosomal genes (ACT-${\beta}$ and H-2A) and X-chromosome linked genes (ANT3, HPRT, MeCP2, RPS4X, XIAP, XIST and ZFX) were analyzed for the characterization of X-chromosome linked RNA transcripts and compared to female fibroblasts by RT-PCR. The transcripts of autosomal genes (ACT-${\beta}$ and H2A) and X-chromosome linked genes (ANT3, HPRT, MeCP2, RPS4X and ZFX) were not detected in spermatozoa. However, XIAP (X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein) and XIST (X-chromosome inactive-specific transcript, a kind of paternal imprinted gene) transcripts were detected in spermatozoa, and relative levels of XIAP and XIST transcripts were similar and 0.5-fold lower when compared to female fibroblasts, respectively. Based on the findings, it is summarized that the presence of RNA transcripts of XIAP and XIST in the isolated spermatozoa may imply their role in inhibition of apoptosis and induction of X-chromosome inactivation in embryo development.

  • In recent years, the skyline query paradigm has been established as a reliable method for database query personalization. While early efficiency problems have been solved by sophisticated algorithms and advanced indexing, new challenges in skyline retrieval effectiveness continuously arise. In particular, the rise of the Semantic Web and linked open data leads to personalization issues where skyline queries cannot be applied easily. We addressed the special challenges presented by linked open data in previous work; and now further extend this work, with a heuristic workflow to boost efficiency. This is necessary; because the new view on linked open data dominance has serious implications for the efficiency of the actual skyline computation, since transitivity of the dominance relationships is no longer granted. Therefore, our contributions in this paper can be summarized as: we present an intuitive skyline query paradigm to deal with linked open data; we provide an effective dominance definition, and establish its theoretical properties; we develop innovative skyline algorithms to deal with the resulting challenges; and we design efficient heuristics for the case of predicate equivalences that may often happen in linked open data. We extensively evaluate our new algorithms with respect to performance, and the enriched skyline semantics.

  • This paper describes the correction strategy of an overcurrent relay applied in the linked line for interconnecting wind farm with utility power networks in order to improve the capability of a fault detection. The fault current measured in a relaying point might vary according to the fault conditions. Generally, the current of the line to line fault or the line to ground fault in the linked line is much higher than the set value of protective relay due to the large fault level. However, when the high impedance fault occurs in the linked line, we can't detect it by conventional set value because its fault level may be lower than the generating capacity of wind farm. And, the protective relay with conventional set value may generate a trip signal for the insertion of wind turbine generators due to the large transient characteristics. In order to solve above problems and improve protective relaying algorithms applied in the linked line, we propose a new correction strategy of the protective relay in the linked line. The presented method can detect the high impedance fault which can't be detected by conventional relay set value and may prevent the mis-operation of protective relay caused by the insertion of wind farm.

  • Physicochemical properties of cross-linked rice starches were investigated. Swelling power of cross-linked rice starch increased at relatively lower temperature $(60^{\circ}C)$ than native rice starch $(70^{\circ}C)$. Cross-linked rice starch showed lower solubility $(1.7{\sim}6.1%)$ than native rice starch $(2.2{\sim}13.8%)$ and solubility is not significantly different with the amount of phosphorus oxychloride. Pasting temperature $(69.2{\sim}70.6^{\circ}C)$ and peak viscosity $(2,874{\sim}3,175\;cp)$ of cross-linked rice starch were lower than native starch $(71.6^{\circ}C,\;3,976\;cp)$, but holding strength $(2,177{\sim}2,708\;cp)$ and final viscosity $(3,424{\sim}3,826 \;cp)$ of cross-linked rice starch were higher than native starch (1,000 cp, 2,312 cp). DSC thermal transitions of cross-linked rice starches were shifted to a lower temperature than native rice starch but there was no significant difference in gelatinization enthalpy between native and cross-linked rice starches. X-ray diffraction pattern of both native and cross-linked rice starches showed typical A-type crystal indicating that cross-linking had not affected the crystalline region of starch.

  • Purpose: The purpose was to link items of questionnaires that measure functioning and disability of persons with Low Back Pain (LBP) into the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Methods: The Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Roland and Morris Disability Questionnaire (RM), Fear-Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ), and Short Form-36 health survey (SF-36) were evaluated to map items of those questionnaires into the ICF categories. The linking rule was employed and linking was performed independently by 10 health professionals. One-hundred and two patients with LBP were recruited from 19 medical institutes to this study for a field test to examine relations between the scale and its linked ICF category set. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to analyze their relationships. Results: Walking was only found to be one-to-one linking between the scale and the ICF. Sixty questions in FABQ were to be linked to 9 of ICF categories. Ten and 14 ICF categories were able to be linked to RM and ODI respectively. It was found that majority of items from ODI and RM scale had similar concept and linked to the same ICF category. SF-36 had only 15 categories of the ICF linked. Strong relationship was observed between measurement scales and linked ICF code sets (r=0.79, r=0.65, r=0.47, and r=-0.31 for ODI, RM, FABQ and SF-36 respectively). Conclusion: It was found that commonly used clinical tools for LBP may be linked to ICF. The study results may suggest that clinical data can be standardized to communicate between related professionals.

  • To develop a method for increasing RS level in maize starch, cross-linked resistant starches treated with annealing were prepared. Maize starch and amylomaize VII were used in the study and annealed at $40{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ before cross-linking modification. To compare effect of annealing below gelatinization temperature, starches were heat treated at 70 and $100^{\circ}C$. RS contents were assayed by pancreatin-gravimetric (P/G) method. When maize starch and amylomaize VII were cross-linked at $45^{\circ}C$ and pH 11.0 by slurrying the starch on a solution of STMP(sodium trimetaphosphate), STPP(sodium tripolyphosphate), and sodium sulfate, RS content was 14.7% and 45.3%, respectively. Annealing below gelatinization temperature before cross-linking increased RS contents of prepared cross-linked starches but did not affect the swelling power. Heat treatment above gelatinization temperature increased the swelling power of cross-linked starch prepared from maize starch. The characteristics by X-ray diffractometry and scanning electron microscopy of cross-linked resistant starch were not changed by annealing.

  • Purpose: This study examine the functioning level and quality of life (QoL) of people with non-specific neck pain and neck pain with radiculopathy using the neck disability index (NDI), functional rating index (FRI), and short form of health survey 36 (SF-36) and each of linked lCF code lists of those scales. Methods: Each item of the NDI, FRI, and SF-36 were linked conceptually to the ICF code, and the lCF code lists of those scales were produced as iNDI, iFRI, and iSF-36, respectively. Seventy-nine patients with neck pain filled the instruments and its linked ICF code lists. The subjects were divided into two groups based on the diagnosis, non-specific neck pain (Group1), and neck pain with radiculopathy (Group2). A group comparison was performed using an independent t-test. The Pearson correlation coefficient was also used to analyze the relationships between each scale and the linked ICF code list. Results: The participants in Group 2 experienced more difficulties in their daily activities than those in Group 2 when examined in NDI and FRI (p<0.05). This result was also found consistently in the ICF code lists, iNDI and iFRI (p=0.05). On the other hand, the QoL did not show a difference between groups (p=0.06). A strong correlation was observed between the instruments and linked ICF code lists: NDI and iNDI (r=0.90), FRI and iFRI (r=0.91), and SF-36 and iSF-36 (r=-0.61). Conclusion: These findings suggest that the concept of each item in NDI and FRI could be linked to the ICF codes when examining patients with neck pain, but the items of SF-36 were found to be linked and expressed in ICF.

  • Purpose: This study was to identify international classification of functioning, disability and health (ICF) categories that could be linked conceptually to disability of arm, shoulder and hand (DASH) items and short form of health survey 36 (SF-36) items for persons with shoulder pain. Methods: Linkage between each item in DASH and SF-36 and the categories in the ICF were assessed. The linking process was performed by ten health professionals following the linking rule. One hundred four patients with shoulder pain were enrolled from 12 private clinic outpatient departments and participated in this study. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to assess the relationships between each scale item and the linked ICF code. Results: Thirty DASH items were able to be linked to 30 ICF codes, whereas the 36 items in SF-36 were only linked to 17 ICF codes. General health items included in SF-36 could not be linked to a relevant ICF concept. There was a high correlation between the two measurement tools and the linked ICF codes, DASH and its ICF code list (r =0.91), SF-36-Physical Health and its code list (r =-0.62), and SF-36-Mental Health and its code list (r =-0.72). Conclusion: The results suggest that concepts within each item in DASH can be linked to ICF codes for patients with shoulder pain, however, the concepts in the SF-36 items had limited linkage to ICF codes. The shoulder-specific functional tool, DASH can be expressed with ICF codes and, therefore, its use can promote data standardization and improve communication between professionals.

  • The preparation and processing of PVP-gate insulators on the device performance have been studied in the fabrication of organic thin film transistors (OTFTs). One of polyvinyl series, poly-4-vinyl phenol(PVP) was used as a solute and propyleneglycol monomethyl etheracetate(PGMEA) as a solvent in the formation of organic gate solutions. The cross-linking of organic insulators was also attempted by adding the thermosetting material, poly (melamine-co-formaldehyde) as a hardener in the compounds. From the measurements of electrical insulating characteristics of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) samples, PVP-based insulating layers showed lower leakage current according to the increase of concentration of PVP and poly (melamine-co-formaldehyde) to PGMEA in the formation of organic solutions. The PVP(20 wt%) copolymer with composition of 20 wt% PVP to PGMEA and cross-linked PVPs in which 5 wt% and 10 wt% poly (melamine-co-formaldehyde) hardeners had been additional]y mixed into PVP(20 wt%) copolymers were used as gate dielectrics in the fabrication of OTFTs, respectively. In our experiments, the maximum field effect mobility of $0.31cm^2/Vs$ could be obtained in the 5 wt% cross-linked PVP(20 wt%) device and the highest on/off current ratio of $1.92{\times}10^5$ in the 10 wt% cross-linked PVP(20 wt%) device.
