  • This paper describes the initial angle adjustment method on Hall Sensorless Linear Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor The implementation of the controller is designed on the DSP TMS320C32 board. PMLSM is operated by using 4-point absolute positions profile with each velocity, acceleration and deceleration. To achieve Hall Sensorless characteristics, Moving Coil Type PMLSM is used and initial angle adjustment algorithm is adapted.

  • In this study a control system with variable gain schedule using real speed and moving direction is proposed to control a Permanent Magnet Linear Synchronous Motor (PMLSM) with Z-axis operation structure. The implementation of the controller is designed on the DSP TMS320C32 board. PMLSM is operated by using 4-point absolute positions profile with each velocity, acceleration and deceleration. The direction of the initial angle action for starting is set from the lower limit point to the upper limit point on PMLSM operation stroke. The effectiveness of a control system with variable gain schedule is demonstrated by some experimental results.

  • This paper describes the development of an automated, hand-held sensor for the fast assessment of seafood freshness. The sensor developed here combined: an array-based chemical sensor, composed of incrementally different conducting polymer elements deposited on a small chip; a highly sensitive, custom-made electronics for the detection of very small signal changes; precise temperature control of the sensor chamber; and an on-board microcontroller for data collection, storage, automation, and analysis. The instrument was used to successfully test seafood samples with different degree of freshness and spoilage. A linear relationship between microbiological count and e-Nose signal for three different fish fillet was developed. Once the linear relationship is included into the hand-held unit software, the e-Nose signal can be used for assessment of seafood freshness without performing the microbiological count technique.

  • A multichannel optical detector system employing a self-scanning linear photodiode array has been developed. The photodiode array detector system is designed for various applications which require fast, multichannel detection of transient signals. The detector system consists of a controller which runs on an IBM personal computer and a detector head connected to the controller through a DB-15 cable. The entire scanning of 1024 detector elements is achieved in 20 ms. By using an on-board 16-bit counter/timer, the operational mode of the photodiode array detector is fully programmable by software. The design considerations and the performance of the photodiode array detector system is presented.

  • Accidental overexposures by radiotherapy have gathered attention recently in Japan. The widely publicized accidents have occurred at the government official benefit society hospital and at the hospital affiliated to a medical school. The accident at the government official benefit society hospital occurred when one of two existing accelerators was renewed. A radiotherapy planning system was also introduced at that time. Then treatment planning for the old and the new linear accelerator was performed using the system. There were variations in wedge factors for the 30 degrees wedge filter between the old and the new linear accelerator. That is, the difference in the structure of the wedge filter (30 degrees) resulted in variations of the wedge factors between both accelerators. In order to keep strength, a lead board was backed to the lead wedge filter for the new linear accelerator, whereas the wedge filter for the old one was made of the iron. The X-ray attenuation of the iron wedge filter is smaller than that of the lead wedge filter. The basic beam data of the old linear accelerator, however, wasn't delivered properly between the user and the maker. Then, the accident took place because the same wedge factor was used for the old and the new linear accelerator. On the other hand, the accident which occurred at the university hospital was brought about by the input mistake in initialization of the computer system when a linear accelerator was introduced. The input mistake was found when the software of the system was updated. If the dose had been measured and confirmed adequately, the accidents could have been prevented in both cases.

  • Accuracy control of Linear accelerator installed in OBI is done daily and weekly and importance of accuracy multiplies exponentially at that moment. Purpose of this experiment is everyday and twice a week over a four month period (march~june) 2009 year to confirm maintenance of accuracy through Quality control of OBI. In short, measurement of exponentially multiplying accuracy of OBI and regular accuracy control was able to maintain accuracy from the center of treatment within 0.1 cm. Therefore, evaluation of exponentially multiplying accuracy using OBI accuracy control linear accelerator phantom on daily, weekly basis was confirmed.

  • This paper presents a design of the enable switch circuit, which is consist of discrete device at smart junction box(SJB) board. The Enable switch circuit, which receives ignition signal (IG) for input, sends a drive signal to linear regulator and other elements. The circuit design is carried out in a BCDMOS $0.18{\mu}m$ technology, and the performances are verified through simulations according to AEC-Q100 and ISO 7637-2. Die area of the designed Enable switch circuit is $1.67mm{\times}0.54mm$ in layout, and it is shown that the die can be housed in $3mm{\times}3mm$ HVSON8 package. The designed enable switch circuit is expected to be widely adopted in various automotive SJB's since it can significantly reduce the overall printed circuit board form factor.

  • This paper presents a design and fabrication of Ku-band power amplifier using Gallium Nitride High Electron Mobility Transistor (GaN HEMT) die. In order to fabricate the low-cost Ku-band power amplifier, a Printed Circuit Board(PCB) was used for input/output matching circuits instead of manufacturing process to use an expensive substrate. The measured output power is 42.6 dBm, the drain efficiency is 37.7 % and the linear gain is 7.9 dB under pulse operation at the frequency of 14.8 GHz. Under the continuous wave(CW) test, the output power is 39.8 dBm, the drain efficiency is 24.1 % and the linear gain is 7.2 dB.

  • In this article, the fundamental concept, characteristics and application potentials of coreless printed-circuit-board (PCB) transformers are described. Coreless PCB transformers do not have the limitations associated with magnetic cores, such as the frequency limitation, magnetic saturation and core losses. In addition, they eliminate the manual winding process and its associated problems, including labor cost, reliability problems and difficulties in ensuring transformer quality in the manufacturing process. The parameters of the printed windings can be precisely controlled in modern PCB technology. Because of the drastic reduction in the vertical dimension, coreless PCB transformers can achieve high power density and are suitable for applications in which stringent height requirements for the circuits have to be met. A transformer's power density of $24W/cm^2$ has been reported in a power conversion application. When used in an isolation amplifier application, coreless PCB transformers tested so far enable the amplifier to achieve a remarkable linear frequency range of 1MHz, which is almost eight times higher than the frequency range of 120kHz in existing Integrated-Circuit products. PCB materials offer extremely high isolation voltage, typically from 15kV to 40kV, which is higher than many other isolation means such as optocouplers. It is envisaged that coreless PCB transformers can replace traditional core-based transformers in some industrial applications. Their application potentials deserve more attention and exploration.

  • Recently much research are has been done into the compositions of lead-free solders. As a result, there has been a rapid increase in the number of new compositions. In the past, the properties of these new compositions were determined and verified through drop-impact tests. However, these drop tests were expensive and it took a long time to obtain a result. The main goal of this study was to establish an analytical method capable of predicting the impact life-time of a new solder composition for board-level flip chips though the application of drop simulations using LS-DYNA. Based on the reaction load obtain with LS-DYNA, the drop-impact fracture cycles were predicted. The study was performed using a Sn-3.0Ag-0.5Cu solder (305 composition). To verify the reliability of the proposed analytical method, the results of the drop-impact tests and life-time analysis were compared, and were found to be in good agreement. Thus, the new analytical method was shown to be very useful and effective.
