  • This study aims at analyzing the flow characteristics of the electromagnetic pump using a linear induction motor (LIM) for transferring molten metals. The flow characteristics of the pump are simulated by magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) program. In this system, the LIM is used for transferring molten metal by electromagnetic force. The molten metal is treated as the secondary part of the LIM. Since the LIM produces an electromagnetic force in the duct, the molten metal can flow from the furnace to the reservoir. The flow characteristics of the pump are analyzed using MHD program for magnetic field of 0.1[T] in duct. In order to prove the analysis, we made a prototype electromagnetic pump using LIM.

  • A linear reservoir rainfall-runoff system was developed as a rainfall-runoff event simulation model. It was achieved from large modification of runoff function method. There are six parameters in the model. Hydrologic losses consist of some quantity of initial loss and some ratio of rainfall intensity followed by initial loss. The model has analytical routing equations. Hooke and Jaeves algorithm was used for model calibration. Parameters were estimated for flood events from '84 to '89 at Seomyeon and Munmak stream gauges, and the trends of major parameters were analyzed. Using the trends, verifications were performed for the flood event in September 1990. Because antecedent rainfalls affect initial loss, future researches are required on such effects. The estimation method of major parameters should also be studied for real-time forecasting.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the drain runoff characteristics from one paddy field, and to provide the basic data required for the determination of flood discharge and unit drainage water for drainage improvement and farmland consolidation. For this purpose, under the assumption that drain discharge from paddy field was similar to outflow of reservoir, runoff model based on storage equation was applied to the experimental field, and simulated results were compared to the measured discharge at weir point. To estimate effective storage volume of paddy field with water depth, 4 regression formula were examined such as linear, exponential, power, and combined. From the observed runoff characteristics, it was shown to be 3.3~16.3${\ell}$/sec in weir discharge, 57.2~98% in runoff ratio, and relative error of simulated result was 3.0~39.4%, 8.5 ~56.0 % for peak flow and runoff ratio, respectively. Curve number by SCS method was calculated as mean value of 96.4 using measured rainfall and runoff data, it was considered relatively high because paddy field has generally flooding depth contrary to the upland watershed area.

  • In the present paper, the behavior of the Karaj double curvature arch dam is studied focusing on the effects of structural nonlinearity on the responses of the dam body when an underwater explosion occurred in the reservoir medium. The explosive sources are located at different distances from the dam and the effects of the cavitation and the initial shock wave of the explosion are considered. Different amount of TNT are considered. Two different linear and nonlinear behavior are assumed in the analysis and the dam body is assumed with and without contraction joints. Radial, tangential and vertical displacements of the dam crest are obtained. Moreover, maximum and minimum principal stress distributions are plotted. Based on the results, the dam body responses are sensitive to the insertion of joints and constitutive model considered for the dam body.

  • This study presents the effects of geometrical dimensions of concrete gravity dams on the seismic response considering different base width/dam height (L/H) ratios. In the study, a concrete gravity dam with the height of 200 m is selected and finite element models of the dam are constituted including five different L/H ratios such as 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25. All dams are modeled in ANSYS software considering dam-reservoir-foundation interaction. 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake records are applied to models in upstream-downstream direction and linear time history analyses are performed. Dynamic equilibrium equations of motions obtained from the finite element models of the coupled systems are solved by using Newmark time integration algorithm. The seismic response of the models is evaluated from analyses presenting natural frequencies, mode shapes, displacements and principal stresses. The results show that the L/H ratios considerably affect the seismic response of gravity dams. Also, the model where L/H ratio is 1.00 has more desirable results and most appropriate representation of the seismic response of gravity dams.

  • A physically based model for rainfall-runoff simulation in agricultural watersheds equipped with tile drains is developed from the TOPMODEL framework. The model is based on detailed topographical information provided by the Digital Elevation Model (DEM), which is available in the Geographic Information System GRASS. Nine possible flow generation scenarions are suggested and used in the development of the model. The storage and delaying effects in the soil matrix and in the tile system are simulated with a second order linear reservoir. The model can identify the portions of the hydrators resulting from tile flow, subsurface flow and surface runoff.

  • Measurement techniques for the in-duct source characteristics of fluid machines can be classified into direct method and load method, according to whether the technique employs an external acoustic source or not. It has been known that the two methods yield different results and the load method used to come up with a negative source resistance, in spite of the fact that a very accurate prediction of radiated noise can be obtained by using any result. This paper is focused to the effect of time-varying nature of fluid machines on the output result. For this purpose, a simplified fluid machine consisting of a reservoir, a valve and a pipe is considered as representing a typical linear, periodic, time-varying system and the measurement techniques are simulated by utilizing the Hill equation and its steady-state forced response. In the load method, the source impedance turns out being dependent on the valve impedance at the calculation frequency and the valve and load impedances at other frequencies as well.

  • In this study aims is water supply criteria relations for evaluating the possible performance of water resources systems. These measures describe how likely a systems is to fail(reliability), how quickly it recovers from failure(resiliency), and how severe the consequences of failure may be(vulnerability). The performance of a criteria evaluating with a variety of operating policies illustrates their use. As a result study frequency reliability and quantitative reliability is linear relations and quantitative reliability is high reliability for equality water supply policy. As reliability and vulnerability are in inverse proportion to each other. Therefore these criteria relation analysis can be for Imha dam to variety water supply policy.

  • In this study, flow characteristics of the FPN (Fountain Pen Nano-Lithography) using active membrane pumping are investigated. This FPN has integrated chamber, micro channel, and high capacity reservoir for continuous ink feed. The most important aspect in this probe provided control of fluid injection using active membrane pumping in chamber. The flow rates in channel by capillary force are theoretically analyzed, including the control of mass flow rates by deflection of membrane. The above results are compared with numerical simulations that calculated by commercial code, FLUENT. The velocity of fluid in micro channel shows linear behaviors. And the mass flows are proportional to the second order function of pumping pressure that is imposed to membrane.
