It is very important to test linear cycle positioning accuracy of NC lathes as it affect all other machines machined by them in industries. For example, if the linear positioning accuracy of x or z-axis directions is bad, the size of works will be wrong and the change-ability will be bad in the assembly of machine parts. In this paper , measuring systems are organized to measure linear displacement of ATC(Automatic tool changer) of NC lathe using laser interferometer, magnescale and tick pulses coming out from computer in order to get data at constant time intervals from the sensors, And each set of data gotten from test is expressed to a plots by computer treatment and the results of linear positioning error motion is estimated to numerics by statistical treatments.
A compact linear and angular displacement measurement device was developed by combining a Michelson interferometer and an autocollimator to characterize the movement of a precision stage. A Michelson interferometer and an autocollimator are typical devices for measuring linear and angular displacement, respectively. By controlling the polarization of reflected beam from the target mirror of the interferometer, some part of light was retro-reflected to the light source and the reflected beam was used for angle measurement. The interferometer and the autocollimator use the same optic axis and the target mirror can be easily and precisely aligned orthogonal to the optic axis by monitoring the autocollimator s signal. The autocollimator was designed for angular resolution of 0.1 arcsec and dynamic range of 60 arcsec. The nonlinearity error of interferometer was minimized by trimming the gain and offset of the photodiode signals. Through the experiments, we evaluate the performance of measurement device and discuss its applications.
In this study, the five-DOF motion at ultra-precision linear stage under static and dynamic conditions are evaluated through the extending application of ISO 230-2. As the performance factors, the bi-directional accuracy and repeatability of the five-DOF motion are quantitatively evaluated with the measurement uncertainties which are determined using the standard uncertainty of equipment used in experiment. The motion under static condition are analyzed using geometric errors. The five geometric errors except the linear displacement error are measured using optimal measurement system which is designed to enhance the standard uncertainty of geometric errors. In addition, the motion under dynamic conditions are analyzed with respect to the conditions with different feed rate of the stage. The experimental results shows that the feed rate of stage has a significant effect on straightness motions.
This paper presents the development of a micro punching system with modified cymbal mechanism. To realize the micro punching, we introduced the hybrid system with a macro moving part and micro punching part. The macro moving part consists of a ball screw, a linear guide and the micro step motor and micro punching part includes the PZT actuators and displacement amplification device with modified cymbal mechanism. The PZT actuator is capable of producing very large force, but they provide only limited displacements which are several micro meters. Thus the displacement amplification device is necessary to make those actuators more efficient and useful. For this purpose, a cymbal mechanism in series is proposed. The finite element method was used to design the cymbal mechanism and to analyze the mode shape of the one. The displacement and mode shape error between the FEM results and experiments are within 10%. A considerable design effort has been focused on optimizing the flexure hinge to increase the output displacement and punching force.
In this paper the design and test results of a dynamic flow rate sensor was reported. This sensor comprises an 2-way cartridge valve as standard hydraulic component and a displacement sensor. Its working principle bases on the linear relationship between the flow rate and the piston displacement of 2-way cartridge valves under constant pressure drop. This principle is well known, however it is not easy to develop a flow rate sensor with the measurement range of 300 1/min, pressure loss of less than 8 bar at 300 1/min, maximum linearity error of less than $\pm$1% and the maximum rising time of 10 ms. This paper describes the design procedure of the flow rate sensor, the improvement procedure of static performance and test method and results of dynamic performance.
General purpose of cylindrical capacitive displacement sensor(CCS) is measuring run-out motion and deflection of rotor. If CCS has narrow sensing range, its sensitivity coefficients must be calibrated precisely. And x, y component of CCS output can be coupled. In this research, CCS calibration procedure is automated with automatic calibration program and PC-controlled stage. And, coupled-terms of CCS signals were removed and the errors between measured position and mapped CCS signal were reduced obviously by sensitivity matrix that linearly.

Hysteretic energy is defined as energy dissipated through inelastic deformations during a ground motion by the system. It includes frequency content and duration of ground motion as two remarkable parameters, while these characteristics are not seen in displacement spectrum. Since maximum displacement individually cannot be the appropriate criterion for damage assessment, hysteretic energy has been evaluated in this research as a more comprehensive seismic demand parameter. An innovative methodology has been proposed to establish a new equivalent linear model to estimate hysteretic energy spectrum for bilinear SDOF models under two different sets of earthquake excitations. Error minimization has been defined in the space of equivalent linearization concept, which resulted in equivalent damping and equivalent period as representative parameters of the linear model. Nonlinear regression analysis was carried out for predicting these equivalent parameter as a function of ductility. The results also indicate differences between seismic demand characteristics of far-field and near-field ground motions, which are not identified by most of previous equations presented for predicting seismic energy. The main advantage of the proposed model is its independency on parameters related to earthquake and response characteristics, which has led to more efficiency as well as simplicity. The capability of providing a practical energy based seismic performance evaluation is another outstanding feature of the proposed model.
In this paper, we studied the error compensation using an error budget method for repeatability improvement of the precision positioning system. The precision positioning system is developed for micro-pressing machine. We performed the force and displacement analysis about parts of the system. Proposed system determines the position and orientation of the materials manufactured by micro-pressing machine. It is consisted of x-y-z linear stages setting the position, and the gripper system setting the orientation. We executed kinematic and dynamic modeling of the whole precision positioning system. By generalizing the design variables, precision positioning system has the flexibility of material dimension. As we tried an error compensation using ...
Voice coil actuator is used linear motion system that requires precision positioning control. In order to control precision positioning of voice coil actuator, relation model between duty ratio and moving displacement of voice coil actuator is needed. This paper present a duty ratio - displacement model in PWM control of voice coil actuator. Transfer function of voice coil actuator is obtained by combining voice coil motor's equation of motion with the equation of circuit and characteristic of voice coil motor. Consider to initial condition of velocity and current, transfer function is transformed mathematical model. The induced model can predict output displacement, velocity and current according to duty ratio and amplitude. The model is verified by experimental tests such as velocity and displacement response of voice coil motor. Simulated results have tracking errors of less than 10 percent of experimental results.
