High-rate Single-Frequency Precise Point Positioning (SF-PPP) in the detection of structural displacements and ground motions

  • This study presents the usability of the high-rate single-frequency Precise Point Positioning (SF-PPP) technique based on 20 Hz Global Positioning Systems (GPS)-only observations in detecting dynamic motions. SF-PPP solutions were obtained from post-mission and real-time GNSS corrections. These include the International GNSS Service (IGS)-Final, IGS real-time (RT), real-time MADOCA (Multi-GNSS Advanced Demonstration tool for Orbit and Clock Analysis), and real-time products from the Australian/New Zealand satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS, known as SouthPAN). SF-PPP results were compared with LVDT (Linear Variable Differential Transformer) sensor and single-frequency relative positioning (SF-RP) solutions. The findings show that the SF-PPP technique successfully detects the harmonic motions, and the real-time products-based PPP solutions were as accurate as the final post-mission products. In the frequency domain, all GNSS-based methods evaluated in this contribution correctly detect the dominant frequency of short-term harmonic oscillations, while the differences in the amplitude values corresponding to the peak frequency do not exceed 1.1 mm. However, evaluations in the time domain show that SF-PPP needs high-pass filtering to detect accurate displacement since SF-PPP solutions include trends and low-frequency fluctuations, mainly due to atmospheric effects. Findings obtained in the time domain indicate that final, real-time, and MADOCA-based PPP results capture short-term dynamic behaviors with an accuracy ranging from 3.4 mm to 8.5 mm, and SBAS-based PPP solutions have several times higher RMSE values compared to other methods. However, after high-pass filtering, the accuracies obtained from PPP methods decreased to a few mm. The outcomes demonstrate the potential of the high-rate SF-PPP method to reliably monitor structural and earthquake-induced ground motions and vibration frequencies of structures.

최적 pRBFNNs 패턴분류기 기반 2차원 영상과 ASM 알고리즘을 이용한 얼굴인식 알고리즘 설계 (Design of Optimized pRBFNNs-based Face Recognition Algorithm Using Two-dimensional Image and ASM Algorithm)

  • 본 연구에서는 최적 pRBFNNs 패턴분류기 기반 2차원 영상과 ASM 알고리즘을 이용한 얼굴인식 시스템을 설계하고자 한다. 기존의 2차원 영상 기반 얼굴 인식 기법들은 인식하고자 하는 객체의 영상내의 위치, 크기 및 배경의 존재 유무에 따라 인식률이 영향을 받는 단점이 있으며, 본 연구에서는 이를 보완하기 위하여 관심 영역 내에서의 얼굴 영역 추출 및 특징 추출기법을 이용한 얼굴인식 방법을 소개한다. 본 연구에서는 CCD 카메라를 이용하여 영상을 획득하고 히스토그램 평활화를 이용하여 조명으로 왜곡된 영상정보를 개선한다. AdaBoost 알고리즘을 이용하여 얼굴영역을 검출하고 ASM을 통하여 얼굴 윤곽선 및 형상을 추출하여 개인 프로필을 구성한 후 PCA 알고리즘을 사용하여 고차원 얼굴데이터의 차원을 축소한다. 그리고 인식 모듈로서 pRBFNNs 패턴분류기를 제안한다. 제안된 다항식 기반 RBFNNs은 조건부, 결론부, 추론부 세 가지의 기능적 모듈로 구성되어 있고 조건부는 퍼지 클러스터링을 사용하여 입력 공간을 분할하고, 결론부는 분할된 로컬 영역을 다항식 함수로 표현한다. 또한 차분진화 알고리즘을 이용하여 제안된 분류기의 파라미터, 즉, 학습률, 모멘텀 계수, 퍼지 클러스터링의 퍼지화 계수를 최적화한다. 제안된 다항식 기반 RBFNNs는 얼굴 인식을 위한 패턴분류기로서 직접 CCD 카메라로부터 입력받은 데이터를 영상 보정, 얼굴 검출 및 특징 추출 등과 같은 데이터 전 처리 과정을 포함하여 고차원 데이터로 이루어진 얼굴 영상에 대한 인식 성능을 확인한다.

삼중대각행렬 시스템 풀이의 빠른 GPU 구현 (Fast GPU Implementation for the Solution of Tridiagonal Matrix Systems)

  • 컴퓨터 하드웨어의 급속한 발전으로 그래픽 프로세서 유닛(Graphics Processor Units : GPUs)은 굉장한 메모리 대역폭과 산술 능역을 보유하게 되어 범용 계산에 많이 활용되고 있으며, 특히 계산 집약적인 물리 기반 시뮬레이션(physics based simulation)의 GPU 구현이 활발하게 연구되고 있다. 물리 기반 시뮬레이션의 기본이 되는 미분방정식 풀이 과정에서 삼중대각행렬(tridiagonal matrix) 시스템은 유한차분(finite-difference) 근사에 의해서 자주 나타나는 선형시스템으로 물리 기반 시뮬레이션 관점에서 삼중대각행렬 시스템의 빠른 풀이는 중요한 연구 분야이다. 본 논문에서는 GPU에서 삼중대각행렬 시스템 풀이를 빠르게 구현할 수 있는 방법을 제안한다. 벡터 프로세서(vector processor) 계산에서 삼중대각행렬 시스템 풀이 방법으로 널리 사용되는 cyclic reduction 또는 odd-even reduction 알고리즘을 GPU에서 구현하였다. 본 논문에서 제안한 방법을 삼중대각행렬 시스템 풀이 방법으로 잘 알려져 있는 Thomas 방법과 GPU를 이용한 선형시스템 풀이에서 좋은 성과를 보이고 있는 conjugate gradient 방법과 비교할 때 상당한 성능 향상을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한, 열전도(heat conduction) 방정식, 이류 확산(advection-diffusion) 방정식, 얕은 물(shallow water) 방정식에 의한 물리 기반 시뮬레이션의 GPU 구현에 본 논문에서 제안한 방법을 사용하여 1024x1024 격자의 계산 영역에서 초당 35프레임 이상의 놀라운 성능을 보여주었다.

파노라믹 스캔 라이다 시스템용 4-채널 차동 CMOS 광트랜스 임피던스 증폭기 어레이 (Four-Channel Differential CMOS Optical Transimpedance Amplifier Arrays for Panoramic Scan LADAR Systems)

  • 본 논문에서는 선형성을 가진 파노라믹 스캔 라이다(PSL) 시스템용의 4-채널 차동 트랜스임피던스 증폭기 어레이를 0.18-um CMOS 공정을 이용하여 구현하였다. PSL시스템을 위한 성능의 비교분석을 위하여 전류모드 및 전압모드의 두 종류 트랜스임피던스 어레이 칩을 각각 구현하였으며, 채널당 1.25-Gb/s 동작속도를 갖도록 설계하였다. 먼저 전류모드 칩의 경우, 각 채널 광 수신입력단은 전류미러 구조로 구현하였으며, 특히 로컬 피드백 입력구조로 개선하여 낮은 입력저항과 낮은 잡음지수를 가질 수 있도록 설계하였다. 칩 측정 결과, 채널 당 $69-dB{\Omega}$ 트랜스임피던스 이득, 2.2-GHz 대역폭, 21.5-pA/sqrt(Hz) 평균 잡음 전류 스펙트럼 밀도, -20.5-dBm 수신감도, 및 1.8-V 전원전압에서 4채널 총 147.6-mW 소모전력을 보이며, 1.25-Gb/s 동작속도에서 크고 깨끗한 eye-diagram을 보인다. 한편, 전압모드 칩의 경우, 각 채널 광 수신입력단은 인버터 입력구조로 구현하여 낮은 잡음지수를 갖도록 설계하였다. 칩 측정 결과, 채널 당 $73-dB{\Omega}$ 트랜스임피던스 이득, 1.1-GHz 대역폭, 13.2-pA/sqrt(Hz) 평균 잡음 전류 스펙트럼 밀도, -22.8-dBm수신감도, 및 4채널 총 138.4-mW 소모전력을 보이며, 1.25-Gb/s 동작속도에서 크고 깨끗한 eye-diagra을 보인다.

Thermal diffusion and diffusion thermo effects on an unsteady heat and mass transfer magnetohydrodynamic natural convection Couette flow using FEM

  • The numerical solutions of unsteady hydromagnetic natural convection Couette flow of a viscous, incompressible and electrically conducting fluid between the two vertical parallel plates in the presence of thermal radiation, thermal diffusion and diffusion thermo are obtained here. The fundamental dimensionless governing coupled linear partial differential equations for impulsive movement and uniformly accelerated movement of the plate were solved by an efficient Finite Element Method. Computations were performed for a wide range of the governing flow parameters, viz., Thermal diffusion (Soret) and Diffusion thermo (Dufour) parameters, Magnetic field parameter, Prandtl number, Thermal radiation and Schmidt number. The effects of these flow parameters on the velocity (u), temperature (${\theta}$) and Concentration (${\phi}$) are shown graphically. Also the effects of these pertinent parameters on the skin-friction, the rate of heat and mass transfer are obtained and discussed numerically through tabular forms. These are in good agreement with earlier reported studies. Analysis indicates that the fluid velocity is an increasing function of Grashof numbers for heat and mass transfer, Soret and Dufour numbers whereas the Magnetic parameter, Thermal radiation parameter, Prandtl number and Schmidt number lead to reduction of the velocity profiles. Also, it is noticed that the rate of heat transfer coefficient and temperature profiles increase with decrease in the thermal radiation parameter and Prandtl number, whereas the reverse effect is observed with increase of Dufour number. Further, the concentration profiles increase with increase in the Soret number whereas reverse effect is seen by increasing the values of the Schmidt number.

사이클릭 피치제어가 가능한 쿼드로터 항공기의 운동특성 분석과 LQR 제어 (Analysis on Dynamic Characteristics and LQR Control of a Quadrotor Aircraft with Cyclic Pitch)

  • 통상적인 쿼드로터 항공기는 네 개 로터의 회전 속도에 의한 추력 벡터의 크기를 조절하여 자세를 제어한다. 본 연구에서는 기존에 개발된 쿼드로터 항공기의 단점을 개선하기 위해서 사이클릭 피치 제어가 가능한 쿼드로터 항공기를 설계하였다. 콜렉티브와 사이클릭 제어를 사용하는 쿼드로터 항공기는 각 로터의 회전속도를 모두 동일하게 유지함으로써 진동에 의한 구조적인 문제를 해소할 수 있으며, 12개의 자유도를 가지므로 다양한 자세에서의 비행이 가능하기 때문에 자동 비행과 실용적 임무가 가능한 고성능 항공기로서 적합하다. 본 연구에서 개발하는 쿼드로터 항공기의 모델링은 FLIGHTLAB을 이용하여 비선형 모델을 구성하였으며, 각 비행 조건에서의 선형 모델을 이용하여 LQR 제어기 설계 및 비선형 시뮬레이션을 통해 제어기의 성능을 검증하였다. 본 논문은 사이클릭 피치 제어가 가능한 쿼드로터의 모델링 및 시뮬레이션 결과를 보여준다.

Mechanical analysis of cutout piezoelectric nonlocal nanobeam including surface energy effects

  • This manuscript tends to investigate influences of nanoscale and surface energy on a static bending and free vibration of piezoelectric perforated nanobeam structural element, for the first time. Nonlocal differential elasticity theory of Eringen is manipulated to depict the long-range atoms interactions, by imposing length scale parameter. Surface energy dominated in nanoscale structure, is included in the proposed model by using Gurtin-Murdoch model. The coupling effect between nonlocal elasticity and surface energy is included in the proposed model. Constitutive and governing equations of nonlocal-surface perforated Euler-Bernoulli nanobeam are derived by Hamilton's principle. The distribution of electric potential for the piezoelectric nanobeam model is assumed to vary as a combination of a cosine and linear variation, which satisfies the Maxwell's equation. The proposed model is solved numerically by using the finite-element method (FEM). The present model is validated by comparing the obtained results with previously published works. The detailed parametric study is presented to examine effects of the number of holes, perforation size, nonlocal parameter, surface energy, boundary conditions, and external electric voltage on the electro-mechanical behaviors of piezoelectric perforated nanobeams. It is found that the effect of surface stresses becomes more significant as the thickness decreases in the range of nanometers. The effect of number of holes becomes significant in the region 0.2 ≤ α ≤ 0.8. The current model can be used in design of perforated nano-electro-mechanical systems (PNEMS).

COMPARISONS OF PARALLEL PRECONDITIONERS FOR THE COMPUTATION OF SMALLEST GENERALIZED EIGENVALUE

  • Recently, an iterative algorithm for finding the interior eigenvalues of a definite matrix by CG-type method has been proposed. This method compares to the inverse power method. The given matrices A, and B are assumed to be large and sparse, and SPD( Symmetric Positive Definite) The CG scheme for the optimization of the Rayleigh quotient has been proven a very attractive and promising technique for large sparse eigenproblems for smallest eigenvalue. Also, it is very amenable to parallel computations, like the CG method for the linear systems. A proper choice of the preconditioner significantly improves the convergence of the CG scheme. But for parallel computations we need to find an efficient parallel preconditioner. Our candidates we ILU(0) in the wave-front order, ILU(0) in the multi-coloring order, Point-SSOR(Symmetric Successive Overrelaxation), and Multi-Color Block SSOR preconditioner. Wavefront order is a simple way to increase parallelism in the natural order, and Multi-coloring realizes a parallelism of order(N), where N is the order of the matrix. Another choice is the Multi-Color Block SSOR(Symmetric Successive OverRelaxation) preconditioning. Block SSOR is a symmetric preconditioner which is expected to minimize the interprocessor communication due to the blocking. We implemented the results on the CRAY-T3E with 128 nodes. The MPI (Message Passing Interface) library was adopted for the interprocessor communications. The test problem was drawn from the discretizations of partial differential equations by finite difference methods. The results show that for small number of processors Multi-Color ILU(0) has the best performance, while for large number of processors Multi-Color Block SSOR performs the best.

Mechanisms of thermally induced deflection of a long-span cable-stayed bridge

  • Variation of temperature is a primary environmental factor that affects the behavior of structures. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms of normal temperature-induced variations of structural behavior would help in distinguishing them from anomalies. In this study, we used the structural health monitoring data of the Shanghai Yangtze River Bridge, a steel girder cable-stayed bridge, to investigate the mechanisms of thermally induced vertical deflection ($D_T$) at mid-span of such bridges. The $D_T$ results from a multisource combination of thermal expansion effects of the cable temperature ($T_{Cab}$), girder temperature ($T_{Gir}$), girder differential temperature ($T_{Dif}$), and tower temperature ($T_{Tow}$). It could be approximated by multiple linear superpositions under operational conditions. The sensitivities of $D_T$ of the Shanghai Yangtze River Bridge to the above temperatures were in the following order: $T_{Cab}$ > $T_{Gir}$ > $T_{Tow}$ > $T_{Dif}$. However, the direction of the effect of $T_{Cab}$ was observed to be opposite to that of the other three temperatures, and the magnitudes of the effects of $T_{Cab}$ and $T_{Gir}$ were found to be almost one order greater than those of $T_{Dif}$ and $T_{Tow}$. The mechanisms of the thermally induced vertical deflection variation at mid-span of a cable-stayed bridge as well as the analytical methodology adopted in this study could be applicable for other long-span cable-stayed bridges.

Prediction of the turning and zig-zag maneuvering performance of a surface combatant with URANS

  • The main objective of this study is to investigate the turning and zig-zag maneuvering performance of the well-known naval surface combatant DTMB (David Taylor Model Basin) 5415 hull with URANS (Unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes) method. Numerical simulations of static drift tests have been performed by a commercial RANS solver based on a finite volume method (FVM) in an unsteady manner. The fluid flow is considered as 3-D, incompressible and fully turbulent. Hydrodynamic analyses have been carried out for a fixed Froude number 0.28. During the analyses, the free surface effects have been taken into account using VOF (Volume of Fluid) method and the hull is considered as fixed. First, the code has been validated with the available experimental data in literature. After validation, static drift, static rudder and drift and rudder tests have been simulated. The forces and moments acting on the hull have been computed with URANS approach. Numerical results have been applied to determine the hydrodynamic maneuvering coefficients, such as, velocity terms and rudder terms. The acceleration, angular velocity and cross-coupled terms have been taken from the available experimental data. A computer program has been developed to apply a fast maneuvering simulation technique. Abkowitz's non-linear mathematical model has been used to calculate the forces and moment acting on the hull during the maneuvering motion. Euler method on the other hand has been applied to solve the simultaneous differential equations. Turning and zig-zag maneuvering simulations have been carried out and the maneuvering characteristics have been determined and the numerical simulation results have been compared with the available data in literature. In addition, viscous effects have been investigated using Eulerian approach for several static drift cases.
