  • A new discrete time gain-scheduled control design is proposed to improve disturbance attenuation for systems with bounded control input under known disturbance maximum norm. The state feedback gains are scheduled according to the proximity of the state of the plant to the origin. The controllers are derived in the framework of linear matrix inequality(LMI) optimization. This procedure yields a linear time varying control structure that allows higher gain and hence higher performance controllers as the state moves closer to the origin. The main results give sufficient conditions for the satisfaction of a parameter-dependent performance measure, without violating the bounded control input condition under the given disturbance maximum norm.

  • This paper presents a position control system for a linear induction motor(LIM) with cage-type secondary using direct thrust control(DTC). The position controller, that combines the merits of integral-proportional(IP) speed control, is designed for the LIM. The actual position of the LIM is defected by the linear scale the resolution of 100. Thrust correction coefficient due to the end effect of the LIM is utilized in estimating actual thrust. As a result, responses of the position, speed, thrust, and flux are shown.

  • In this paper, we study design of a ILQ(Inverse Linear Quadratic optimal control) looper control system for hot strip mills. The looper which is placed between stands plays an important role in controlling strip width by regulating strip tension variation generated from the velocity difference of main work rolls. A Looper servo controller is designed by ILQ control theory which is an inverse problem of LQ(Linear Quadratic optimal control) control. The mathematical model for looper system is obtained by Taylor´s linearization of nonlinear differential equations. Then we designed linear controller for linearization model by using the ILQ control algorithm. Thereafter this controller is applied to the nonlinear model for model identification. As a result, we show the controller´s robustness for the model error, external disturbance and sensor noise.

  • The purpose of this paper is to present a new nonlinear feedback control called AACC (Augmented automatic choosing control) for nonlinear systems. Generally, it is easy to design the optimal control laws for linear systems, but it is not so for nonlinear systems, though they have been studied for many years. One of most popular and practical nonlinear control laws is synthesized by applying a linearization method by Taylor expansion truncated at the first order and the linear optimal control method. This is only effective in a small region around the steady state point or in almost linear systems. Controllers based on a change of coordinates in differential geometry are effective in wider...

  • This paper presents a design method of sliding model control (SMC) for single input linear systems with mismatched uncertainties. We define a virtual state based on the controllable canonical form of the nominal system. And we defined a sliding surface for the augmented system with a virtual state. This sliding surface makes it possible to use the SMC technique with various types of controllers. In this paper, we construct a controller that combines SMC with robust controller. We design a robust controller for the system with mismatched uncertainties using a form of linear matrix inequality(LMI). We make a virtual state from this robust control input and the states of the nominal system. And we design a sliding model controller that stabilizes the overall closed-loop system.

  • In the case of a linear time-varying system, it is difficult to apply the conventional stability conditions of RHC (Receding Horizon Control) to real physical systems because of computational complexity comes from time-varying system and backward Riccati equation. Therefore, in this study, a frozen time RHC for a linear discrete time-varying system is proposed. Since the proposed control law is obtained by time-invariant Riccati equation solved by forward iterations at each control time, its stability can be ensured by matrix inequality condition and the stability condition based on horizon for a time-invariant system, and they can be applied to real physical systems effectively in comparison with the conventional RHC.

  • This paper considers the decentralized control problem of linear time-invariant interconnected systems with delays. A decentralized output-feedback controller to obtain both stability and performance of the interconnected system is designed using the standard $H_\infty$ control theory, This paper provides sufficient conditions for such a controller to exist and provides an output feedback controller.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive repetitive control algorithm for the system the task of which is repetitive. The feedforward controller in the repetitive control system is modified by using the system parameter identifier in order to improve the convergence characteristics. The proposed algorithm is applied to the tracking control of a linear BLDC motor to which a periodic reference input is applied. It is illustrated by simulation results that the proposed adaptive repetitive control method yields better control performance than existing repetitive control even when modeling errors exist.

  • A stabilizing control method for linear systems with model uncertainties and hard input constraints is developed, which does not require on-line optimizations. This work is motivated by the constrained robust MPC(CRMPC) approach [3] which adopts the dual mode prediction strategy (i.e. free control moves and invariant set) and minimizes a worst case performance criterion. Based on the observation that, a feasible control sequence for a particular state can be found as a linear combination of feasible sequences for other states, we suggest a stabilizing control algorithm providing sub-optimal and feasible control sequences using pre-computed optimal sequences for some canonical states. The on-line computation of the proposed method reduces to simple matrix multiplication.
