Recently, linear compressors of cooling systems such as refrigerators, which have a free piston driven by a linear motor, have attracted much attention because of their high efficiency. For structural reasons, linear compressors applied in refrigerators should use an AC capacitor to ensure stable control. However, AC capacitors are expensive and bulky. In this paper, we propose a new method to realize stable control without a real AC capacitor by implementing a virtual AC capacitor with software. To realize a virtual AC capacitor, a pure integral is calculated. Nonetheless, if an offset current exists, the calculation may diverge to infinity. To solve this problem, a high-pass filter is applied and the compensation for the phase angle and magnitude are realized with a new method. Finally, a virtual AC capacitor enables variable frequency operations. Hence, in case of a lack of voltage, we can compensate by running the linear compressor in high-frequency operations. To improve efficiency, we may optimize the operation frequency. The validity of a virtual AC capacitor has been verified through simulations and experimental results.

Nowadays, the necessity of linear position control motors have been increased in the various fields of the automatic control system. In the recently, the position control motor have disadvantaged in the efficiency and economical view since it require a conversion equipments such as belt and gear in order to convert rotary to linear motion. On the contrary, the hybrid linear stepping motor(HLSM) of linear motion digital actuator has a direct drive method that do not need mechanical conversion equipments. Therefore, the HLSM is better advantaged in the efficiency and economical view than a rotary stepping motor. In this paper, we have designed an optimum tooth shape and a permanent magnet value between the mover teeth by the 2D finite element method(FEM) to develop the HLSM with longitudinal flux machine(LFM) type, and calculated the thrust force and normal force. And we have manufactured the prototype of it. and have experimented the thrust force and the dynamic thrust characteristics of it.

This paper compares the seismic response control performance of linear and non-linear models fer tuned liquid damper (TLD). The existing linear and nonlinear TLD models were used for the numerical analysis of single degree of freedom (SDOF) and multi degree of freedom (MDOF) systems with TLD. The nonlinear model considers the variation of the frequency and damping of the TLD with varying excitation amplitude while the linear one has the invariant parameters. Numerical analysis results from SDOF systems indicate that the nonlinear model shows about 5% better control performance than linear one when the mass ratio is 2% and the optimal parameters for reducing peak responses are dependent on the characteristics of the excitation earthquake loads.
Linearization of the biped dynamic equations and design of linear controller for the linearized equations are studied in this paper. The biped robot with inverted pendulum type trunk, used to stabilize the dynamic balancing of the biped robot during dynamic walking period, is modelled with 14 DOF and simulated. Despite of well defined linear control theories so far, the linear control methods was limited to the applications for a walking robot, because they have been inherently strong nonlinear properties, such as a modeling parameter uncertainties, external forces as noise, inertial and Coriolis terms by three dimensional modeling and so on. To linearize the nonlinear equations of motion of biped robot on MIMO and time varying linear equations of motion, 1st order Taylor series is used to formulate the linear equation. And a 2nd order numerical perturbation method Is used to approximate partial differential equations. Using the linearized equations of motion, a linear controller is designed by pole placement method with feed forward compensation. Using the obtained linearized equations and linear controller, the continuous walking simulation is performed.
The dynamic output-feedback robust control method based on linear matrix inequality (LMI) method is presented for suppressing vibration response of a functionally graded material (FGM) beam with piezoelectric actuator/sensor layers in this paper. Based on the reduced model obtained by using direct mode truncation, the linear fractional state space representation of a piezoelectric FGM beam with material properties varying through the thickness is developed by considering both the inherent uncertainties in constitution material properties as well as material distribution and the model error due to mode truncation. The dynamic output-feedback robust H-infinity control law is implemented to suppress the vibration response of the piezoelectric FGM beam and the LMI method is utilized to convert control problem into convex optimization problem for efficient computation. In numerical studies, the flexural vibration control of a cantilever piezoelectric FGM beam is considered to investigate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed control method. Compared with the efficient linear quadratic regulator (LQR) widely employed in literatures, the proposed robust control method requires less control voltage applied to the piezoelectric actuator in the case of same control performance for the controlled closed-loop system.

Linear motor stage is a useful device in precision engineering field because of its simple power transmission mechanism and accurate positioning. Even though linear motor stage shows fine positioning accuracy along travel axis, geometric dependent errors which relay on machining and assembling accuracy should be addressed to increase total positioning performances. In this paper, we suggests a cost effective yaw error compensation servo-system which is mounted on platform of the stage and nullify travel position dependent yaw error. This paper also provides a method of designing a sliding mode control which is robust to existing friction disturbance and model uncertainties. The reachability condition of slinding mode control for the yaw error compensating servo-system has been established. From some experimental results by using an experimental set-up, the sliding mode control showed its effective in disturbance rejection and its performance was superior to conventional linear controls.

For most of linear time-varying (LTV) systems, it is difficult to design time-varying controllers in analytic way. Accordingly, by approximating LTV systems as uncertain linear time-invariant, control design approaches such as robust control have been applied to the resulting uncertain LTI systems. In particular, a robust control method such as quantitative feedback theory (QFT) has an advantage of guaranteeing the frozen-time stability and the performance specification against plant parameter uncertainties. However, if these methods are applied to the approximated linear. time-invariant (LTI) plants with large uncertainty, the resulting control law becomes complicated and also may not become ineffective with faster dynamic behavior. In this paper, as a method to enhance the fast dynamic performance of LTV systems with bounded time-varying parameters, the approximated uncertainty of time-varying parameters are reduced by the proposed QFT parameter-scheduling control design based on radial basis function (RBF) networks.

This paper addresses a feedback linearization control problem for the nonlinear dynamics of an underwater glider system. We consider the buoyancy and moment as control inputs, which come from the mass variation and elevator control, respectively. Moment-to-force coupling increases the nonlinearities, which make the controller design difficult. By using a feedback linearization technique, we convert the nonlinear underwater glider to an equivalent linear model and design a linear controller. The controller for the equivalent converted linear system is designed using sufficient conditions in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Then, the control input of the nonlinear model of an underwater glider is formulated from the linear control input. An experimental examination is implemented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

The saturation of the actuator impairs the response performance of the near space interceptor control system. A control system based on the properties of linear tracking system is designed for this problem. The properties are that the maximum value of the pseudo-Lyapunov function of the linear tracking control system do not present at the initial state but at the steady state, based on which the bounded stability problem is converted into linear tracking problem. The pseudo-Lyapunov function of the linear tracking system contain the input variables; the amplitude and frequency of the input variables affect the stability of the nonlinear control system. Designate expected closed-loop poles area for different input commands and obtain a controller which is function of input variables. The coupling between variables and linear matrices make the control system design problem non-convex. The non-convex problem is converted into a convex LMI according to the Shur complement lemma and iterative algorithm. Finally the simulation shows that the designed optimal control system is quick and accurate; the rationality of the presented design techniques is validated.
In this paper, we use measure theory for considering asymptotically stable of an autonomous system [1] of first order nonlinear ordinary differential equations(ODE's). First, we define a nonlinear infinite-horizon optimal control problem related to the ODE. Then, by a suitable change of variable, we transform the problem to a finite-horizon nonlinear optimal control problem. Then, the problem is modified into one consisting of the minimization of a linear functional over a set of positive Radon measures. The optimal measure is approximated by a finite combination of atomic measures and the problem converted to a finite-dimensional linear programming problem. The solution to this linear programming problem is used to find a piecewise-constant control, and by using the approximated control signals, we obtain the approximate trajectories and the error functional related to it. Finally the approximated trajectories and error functional is used to for considering asymptotically stable of the original problem.
